Smith -- Colonel Howard B. Smith (Retired), 77, died at his home August 25. He lived in Los Lunas for the past 30 years. Howard retired after serving 31 years in the United States Air Force. He was born November 29, 1921 in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; mother, Katherine; two sisters, Margaret Binning and Barbara Hursh of Wyoming. He is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine; three children, Pamela Smith of Bay City, TX, Kathy Smith of Los Lunas; son, Charles and wife, Jan; three grandchildren of Valley Mills, TX; sister, Bette Rutledge of Meridan, Wyoming; and loving nieces, nephews and friends. There will be no service. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the New Mexico Boy's Ranch (775 Hwy 304, Belen, New Mexico 87002) or Presbyterian Hospice of Albuquerque.
