Padilla -- Mr. Guillermo"Gilly" Padilla died Monday in Albuquerque at the age of 72. Mr. Padilla was a member of the Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Lupita. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion, DAV, VFW and FOP. Mr. Padilla was a retired police officer with the Bernalillo Co. Sheriff's Department and also served as a crossing guard. Mr. Padilla volunteered as a county funeral police escort and spent much of his time volunteering in various community services, including churches, veteran's groups and many, many others. Mr. Padilla is survived by his wife, Jane L. Padilla of the family home; sons, Jim Marcum and wife, Pamela and Martin Padilla; daughters, Nettie Fleming and husband, Don and Theresa Padilla; brother, Sam Padilla; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Padilla will be held on Wednesday at the San Jose Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the San Jose Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Bernalillo Co. Sheriff's Department. A Rosary for Mr. Padilla will be recited on Tuesday evening at the San Jose Church at 7:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. Arrangements by the Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 3rd St. SW.
