Kerr -- Hal Lyn Kerr, Jr., age 89, died early Wednesday morning, August 4, 1999, in Los Alamos. He was born June 15, 1910, in the Territory of New Mexico to Hal and Carrie Kerr. He grew up on the Lazy E Ranch east of Deming, New Mexico. He attended schools in Texas, New Mexico, California, and Tennessee. Hal was a member of the first New Mexico State Police in 1935. He met and married Mary Jo Reeves in Estancia, New Mexico. They lived in Tucumcari, Clovis, Vaughn, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque. The war came along and Hal worked for the Albuquerque Corp of Engineers; being stationed in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, White Sands, and Kingman, Arizona. He came to Los Alamos with a maintenance company called the Zia Company, maintaining the houses for 29 years. Hal had an appraisal business for 12 years or so, and finally settled for a winter place to play golf in Scottsdale, Arizona, and summer in the greatest place of all, Los Alamos, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jo; two children, Carrie Sue Vandervoort and husband, Ray, and son, Hal Jay Kerr; grandchildren, Susan Bailey and husband, Marc, Nancy Riebe and husband, Chuck, Adriana Lyn Kerr, Alissa Maria Goddard and husband, Grant, and Daniel Hal Kerr; great-grandchildren, Jake, Michelle, and Matt Bailey and Megan and Sarah Riebe. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, 1999, at 10:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Los Alamos with Howard Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Guaje Pines Cemetery.
