Harris -- ROBERT MITCHELL HARRIS Born February 14, 1935 in Norton, TX, to Robert R. and Rose Harris, the first of two children. The family moved to Sterling City, Texas, then to San Angelo, Texas, where Robert graduated from high school in 1953. Harris then joined the United States Armed Forces and served from 1956-1963. He was assigned to the Telecommunications Division at Clark AFB in the Philippines for 18 months, then re-assigned to Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebraska for the remainder of his military career. In 1958, Harris met and married Suzy Thatcher in Spur, TX (10-10-58). The couple have three children, Robert Michael (Mike) Harris, 39, of Hereford, TX. Mike is married with three children. Randall Matthew Harris, 38, of Clovis, NM. Randall is married with two children. And Ronne Mark Harris, 36, of Clovis, NM. Ronne is married with four children. In 1963, the Harris family moved to Wilcox, AZ, where Harris was employed at Valley Telephone Co. In 1965, the Harris family moved to Dell City, TX, where Harris was employed at Dell City Telephone Coop. In 1968, the Harris family moved to Lubbock, TX, where Harris was employed at Hicks and Ragland Engineering Co. In 1969, the Harris family moved to Hereford, TX, where Harris was employed for 14 years at West Texas Rural Telephone Coop. In 1974, the Harris family moved to Clovis, NM, where Harris took the reigns as General Manager of ENMR Telephone Coop. When Harris assumed the position the Electric and Power Coop. had recently separated into independent entities. In 1980, Harris moved ENMR from the Commerce Street location to North of Clovis, addressed 7111 N. Prince. When Harris began his tenure with ENMR it has six employees. When he retired in 1995, ENMR employed over 200 employees. Harris is credited with his innovative and progressive management skills, especially in the area of cellular communication, interactive television, distance learning, and major fiber optic networking. After Harris' retirement in May of 1995, he enjoyed bass fishing, traveling, and dirt track racing. Harris also acquired his pilot's license after age 50. Preceded in death by his father, Robert R. Harris; and step-father, Holvey Enochs. His survived by his mother, Rose Enochs; brother, Jackie Don Harris of Eldorado, TX; also his wife, Suzy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and DeAnn of Hereford, TX, Randall and Traci, and Ronne and Dana of Clovis, NM; also nine grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell, Megan, Ryan, Lindsay, Jessica, Jaryse, Rustin and Rallin. Harris was a member of the Summerfield Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school to young people in the 1970's. He coached Little League in Hereford, TX. Harris was also a member of several civic organizations, including the Lions Club, the Masons, the Shriners, and a board member of Ned Houk Motorsports Complex. Services are scheduled for Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at First Church of the Nazarene, 1800 Norris, in Clovis, NM. Pallbearers will be Tom Hyer, Ronnie Scott, Roger Dial, Rocky Martin, Donnie Lewellyn, Sandy Vandevander, Kenny Wilhite, and Tim Groff. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Hillock, Wylie Snyder, Dudley Harden, Vincent Gallagher, Eddie Pullman, Jerry Cryar, Gary Elliott, Glen Fuller, David Lawson, Andy Anderson, Kay Harmon, Bryan Cherry and Russell Harmon. Memorials and donations can be made to the Clovis, NM and Hereford, TX Make a Wish Foundation, The Baptist Children's Home in Portales, NM, or the Clovis Police Dept. and/or the Curry County Sheriff's Office.
