Chavez -- Erslinda Larranaga Chavez, 94, a resident of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, passed away June 26, 1999. She was born at Verdel Family Ranch in Ash Canyon, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregorio Chavez; her parents, Manuel and Cleofetas Larranaga; and ten siblings. Mrs. Chavez taught school in both San Miguel and Sierra Counties with the major portion of her career in Truth or Consequences. Mrs. Chavez retired after 43 years of service to New Mexico's children. She was active in New Mexico Educational circles and was a well known and respected educator throughout New Mexico. Mrs. Chavez was also active in civic and church activities, serving on many boards and committees providing leadership and guidance. She is survived by a legion of loving nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States. A memorial service will be held at the Second Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque on July 6, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. The church is located at the corner of Lomas and Edith, Reverend J. Chavez, officiating. A second memorial service will be held in Truth or Consequences at the Truth or Consequences United Methodist Church. The date will be announced at a later date.
