Muniz -- Estefanita Mares Muniz, 82, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and companion, was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 20, 1999 while surrounded by her loving family. Ms. Muniz was born on January 29, 1917 in Socorro, NM to Antonio and Adela Otero; she was a longtime resident of Albuquerque and a parishioner of San Jose Mission in Duranes. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by three sons, Larry Muniz Sr. and wife, Theresa, Toy"Tony" N. Muniz and wife, Judy, Paul Muniz and wife, Marie; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a longtime companion and friend, Juan Lucero; two sisters, Lena Saiz and Ofelia Olguin; four sisters-in-law , Fabiola Ortega, Lala Garcia, Lucy Lucero and Leonala Perea; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and those who knew and loved her. Family and friends may visit today, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary, on the corner of 8th and Iron. A Rosary will be recited this evening, 7:00 p.m., at the San Jose Mission in Duranes. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. Casket bearers will be Andrew Muniz, Tim Muniz, Philamor Muniz, Floran Lucero Jr., Buster Larry Jr. and Joe Lucero. Honorary bearer will be Justin Muniz. Funeral services are under the direction of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW, 243-5222.
