James -- John C."Jack" James, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Frances James of Albuquerque; sons, John James Jr. and wife, Sharon, and Mark Field James, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Katherine James of Albuquerque, Lynnette Kowalski and husband, Doug of St. Louis, and Robin Lea James of Albuquerque; grandchildren, John Franko Smith and wife, Kim of Albuquerque, Jason Kowalski, Nolan Kowalski, both of St. Louis, Melanie Cicchetti, Emily Cicchetti, both of Albuquerque; brothers, Robert James of California, Thomas James of Albuquerque, Jerrold James of Albuquerque, Bruce James of Louisiana, and Frank James of Florida; sisters, Marian Calhoun of Albuquerque, Carol Brennan of Albuquerque, and Barbara James of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother, William James. In 1928 his family moved to Albuquerque from San Francisco where he was raised. He graduated from Albuquerque High in 1945 and attended two years at UNM. He was a Gold Palm Eagle Scout. As superintendent, he built hundreds of building in the Southwest United States. In his later years, he became one of the pioneers of the cell-phone industry. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13, of the International Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and of the Associated General Contractors of America. Having an adventurous spirit, he was an avid sportsman. He loved the outdoors. He helped all his children and grandchildren in football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and scouts. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, all donations are to be made to UNM Homecare/Hospice. Friends may visit Aspen Funeral Alternatives, Thursday, March 18, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Services will be held Friday, March 19, 3:00 p.m., at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo NE.
