Devargas -- Damiana DeVargas, 92, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 1999. Damiana was born April 15, 1907 in Vallecitos, New Mexico, the daughter of Jose A. and Reyecitas Martinez Gallegos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dionicio DeVargas; a son, Querino DeVargas; and a sister, Estefanita DeVargas. Damiana is survived by her children, Arthur and Rosemary DeVargas of Albuquerque, Dana and Ray Montoya of Rio Rancho, Gail and Felix Gallegos of Antonito, CO, Rae Ann and Carlos Setein of Kansas City, MO, Fidel DeVargas of Salt Lake City, UT; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Damiana brought much love and joy to her family. We were all blessed with the time she shared with us and we will all miss her. The Rosary will be recited on Friday, December 10, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 11, 1999 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho with the Rev. Msgr. Douglas Raun as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Carlos DeVargas, Ray Ed Montoya, Michael Montoya, Gary Gallegos, Felix Gallegos Jr., and Shawn Lease.
