Swopes -- Florence M. Swopes, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Saturday, September 2, 2000, at home after a recent illness. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred A. Vallez and husband, Rito of Albuquerque; four granddaughters; two grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred G. Swopes; daughter, Sharon Kay Wilkerson; great-granddaughter, Gloria Vega; one sister and three brothers. Florence was born April 17, 1916 and raised in Dawson, NM. She later moved to Texas, where she met and married Fred Swopes in 1940 and they moved to Albuquerque in 1945. Florence worked for the APS cafeterias for 19 years before retiring. Services will be held Wednesday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Lemuel Boyles officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Tom Kelley, Rito Vallez, Ernest Valencia, Grady Rigdon, George Gulley and Jerry Vallez. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
