Chappelle -- Elliott H. Chappelle, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Sunday, February 13, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Chappelle of the family home; sons, Edsal H. Chappelle and wife, Mary, Carnell E. Chappelle and wife, Johanna and Mackell M."Kelly" Chappelle and wife, Linda, all of Albuquerque; grandsons, Eric, Timothy, Michael, Carnell Jr., and Chad Chappelle; granddaughters, Leanne, Andrea and Caitlynn Chappelle; three great-granddaughters; brother, Harold Chappelle of San Antonio, TX; and sisters, Marjorie Dahm of Albuquerque and Gene Gordon and husband, Robert of Houston, TX. Mr. Chappelle spent his career in education, retiring from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He was a Past Master of Sandia Mountain Lodge #72, Memorial Lodge #1 and York Rite Masonic Bodies. He was a member of Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Order of the Silver Trowel, Knight of York Cross of Honor, Heroes of 76. Mr. Chappelle was born in Wisconsin. He served with distinction in the Eighth Air Corps during WWII in the China, Burma and India Campaign. He was known for his sense of humor, warmth and compassion. Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University NE, with Rev. Trey Hammond officiating. Cremation will take place.
