Newlon -- Herbert Newlon, 71, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away at home on February 4, 2000. He served in the Air Force at the end of World War II and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1988 after 27 years of service. Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mattie; his children, Nancy Rickerman and her husband, Steve of Albuquerque, Evan Newlon and his fiancee, Kathy Purr of Albuquerque, Richard Newlon of Los Lunas, Jill Thompson and her husband, Neil of Los Lunas; four grandchildren, Rachel and Graham Rickerman of Albuquerque, and Tessa and Katrina Thompson of Los Lunas; two step-grandchildren, Brian Vandenbosch of Seattle, WA and Kristina Etsitty of Albuquerque; one great-granddaughter, Sierra Barreras of Albuquerque; one brother, Carl Newlon and his wife, Jeanne of Sedan, NM; two sisters, Sylvia Ogle of Denver, CO and Nan Herber and her husband, Marvin of Texline, TX. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends whose lives were enriched by having known him. Cremation has taken place. At Herbert's request, there will be no services; instead, a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 12, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at his home in Los Lunas.
