Martinez -- Luis Martinez, 71, a resident of Belen, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, May 12, 2000 at his home in Belen. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Luis was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 32673 and the Belen 4th Degree Assembly. Luis proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during both the Korean and Vietnam War, retiring from the military service in 1966. He then went to work for the General Service Administration in the Federal Building in Albuquerque, retiring in 1993. Luis was preceded in death by his son, Anthony in 1997; and his parents, Adeliado and Leontina Martinez. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary of the family home in Belen; his three children, Rosemary Valdez and her husband, Alex of Espanola, Paul and his wife, Lisa of Miami, FL, Steve and his wife, Donna of Belen; his ten grandchildren, Jessica, Alexis, Angela, and Rebecca Valdez, Justin, Adrian, Michael, Celina, Nicole, and Elena Martinez; four sisters, Eulalia Gonzales, Bennie Scotch, Helen Garcia and her husband, Buzz, and Jeanette Vigil; seven brothers, Amarante and his wife, Frances, Sigfredo, Carlos and his wife, Linda, Fabian and his wife, Marian, Bernabe and his wife, Vivian, Edward, Jose Archuleta and his wife, Patricia. Luis is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many supportive in-laws and family members who assisted him during his illness. A viewing will be held on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.
