Montoya -- Jeremias "Jerry" Montoya, 81, was called by our Lord early Thursday morning, October 5, 2000. Jeremias was born in Tajique, NM on October 8, 1918 to Raman and Francisca Montoya. Jeremias is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Julia Montoya; daughter, Lydia Montoya-Griego; two grandchildren, Jerome and Cliff Griego; sister, Cecilia Sanchez; son-in-law, Freddy Griego; many loving nieces and nephews; and several caring friends. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Roman and Francisca Montoya; his infant son, Juan; three sisters, Clara Barboa, Julianita Candelaria and Brigida Otero; and three brothers, Ricardo, Nicolas and Manuel Montoya. He was a respected and distinguished soldier in World War II. He served in the United States Army, and was awarded the Purple Heart for valor and bravery. In addition to being a long-standing member of the Disabled American Veterans, he was also a regular-attending member of St. Edwin's Catholic Church. Visitations will be today, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, located on 8th St. and Iron, where a Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 10, 2000, at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona S.W. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. For floral assistance, please call 243-5222. Funeral services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW.
