Murphy -- Our beloved Lola Lorene Murphy, 75, was called by our Lord on Friday, August 25, 2000. She was born Monday, September 1, 1924 in Montezuma, Kansas to Hugh and Laura Elliott. She was the fifth of ten children. She moved to Albuquerque in 1940. She married her beloved husband, Hanibal Murphy in 1944 and he preceded her in death in December, 1977. Lola was known for her love and giving spirit. Her home was a refuge to many throughout the years as she extended kindness and compassion to those who crossed her path. She showed remarkable strength and courage through ill periods. Lola was a joyful Christian and faithful member of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church and a founding member of Winona Art and Study Club. She loved jewelry making, cooking, traveling, shopping, puzzles, animals, gardening and fishing. She is survived by two sisters, Opal Smith of Albuquerque, Edith Harrison of Rialto, CA; two brothers, Merle Elliott and wife, Julia of Albuquerque and Pat Elliott and wife, Glenna of Rialto, CA; two daughters, Laura Lipscomb and husband, Donald, Cleonis Farmer of Albuquerque; five step-sons, John Murphy, Clarence Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Joe Murphy, Freddie Murphy of Albuquerque; two step-daughters, Lela Mayfield of Poughkeepsie NY and Dollie Caldwell of Compton, CA; four grandchildren, Melanie Lipscomb, Tierney Lipscomb, Michelle Presser, all of Albuquerque, and Carlester Farmer of Chula Vista, CA; four great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Her counsel, love, and smile will be greatly missed, for we have been made richer having known her. Services will be held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1901 Pennsylvania NE, with a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, September 1, 2000. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2000, with burial following at Fairview Memorial Park.
