Montroy -- Arthur Frank Montroy, 86, peacefully entered the gates of heaven on Friday, December 28, 2001, while surrounded by family. His loving wife, Virginia E., preceded him in death in 1992. He was born in Minneapolis, MN on September 16, 1915 and had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1958. He was a baseball player with the Detroit Tigers organization prior to a career in the U.S. Navy, serving his country in WWII and the Korean War. His duty placed him at Pearl Harbor, the Pacific Campaign (including Midway, Guadalcanal) and on board the U.S.S. Missouri where Japan surrendered. Included among his numerous career citations was a special citation from Admiral Nimitz and one from the government of Korea. After his military career, he was an employee of Albuquerque Public Schools for 13 years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Fleet Reserve, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Mason with St. Johnťs Lodge #1 in Portsmouth, NH and a 32ß Scottish Rite Shriner. He is survived by his son, Michael G.; four grandchildren; family in Minnesota, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests to send live plants for a lasting memory to French Mortuary. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Tuesday, January 1, 2002, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
