Seaman -- John Vincent "Jack" Seaman was born on May 8, 1921, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, son of John Francis Seaman and Catherine Campbell Seaman. He graduated from Perth Amboy High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano from the Julliard School of Music. He served in the US Coast Guard as a Petty Officer Second Class until the end of WW II. While stationed in Charleston, SC, Jack met the future Mrs. Seaman at a Christmas party. She also had a music degree in piano. His chance meeting of Marjorie Reinette Barlow grew into a marriage that lasted 56 years. Returning to New Jersey, he earned a Masters degree in Music Education from Columbia University, then taught class piano and chorus at Perth Amboy High School for 35 years. After retiring in 1983, Jack and Reinette moved from New Jersey to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1984, where he continued to give piano lessons and was active in the music program at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Jack Seaman died of a heart attack on December 29, 2001, the night he told his California grandchildren the best impromptu "Gregory the Wolf" story ever. He is survived by his wife Reinette; brother James; children Robert, Timothy, Jonathan, and Anne Marie; and grandchildren Ryan, Torey, and Devin Seaman, and Jenna and Julie Sahyoun. The family requests donations to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. Cremation by McCormick Funeral Home in Laguna Hills, California. Inurnment at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church columbarium, Albuquerque, New Mexico. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. A spring or summer memorial service will be scheduled in his home state of New Jersey; contact family members for more information.
