Vance -- Hazel Vance, 93, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, December 18, 2001, following a short illness. Hazel was born March 25, 1908, in Scottsdale, PA to F. Victor and Catharine Shank Vance. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Keller and her husband, Melvin of Connellsville, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Miss Vance was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mildred Vance Coughenour and Kathleen ťKittyť Bosweel; and her brother, Harry W. Vance. She graduated from Hiram College in Hiram, OH. Miss Vance retired from Sandia Laboratory where she worked as a math analyst. She was an active member of Monte Vista Christian Church where she served as nursery attendant, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. Miss Vance was an active member of the Women's Ministry and especially active in the Sew-n-Sew group, making pants and skirts and an unending number of dresses for children for The Storehouse. She tatted, knitted and crocheted afghans, sweaters and doilies for family and friends. Miss Vance was a certified braillist for 20 years and transcribed many educational books for children. A memorial service will be held for Miss Vance on Saturday, January 12, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, with Rev. Fred Dorisse and Dr. Michelle Tatlock officiating. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
