Richards -- Brandyn John Richards, 22, of Albuquerque and, more recently, Chandler, AZ, died on Saturday, February 9, 2002, in Albuquerque. Brandyn, also known as BJ, died in an early-morning automobile accident while on his way from Chandler to visit his family and friends. A 1997 graduate of La Cueva High School who participated in the mentorship and advanced-placement programs for gifted and talented students, Brandyn was an avid reader whose literary interests covered such diverse material as history, suspense/horror novels, astronomy and physics, and automobile magazines and books. He also particularly enjoyed and valued the time that he spent with his close friends, both in Albuquerque and in Arizona. His gregarious nature, open-mindedness, and quick wit were, in turn, valued by his friends and family. Brandyn pursued his intense interest in performance automobiles and racing by entering the Automotive Technician program at Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute. While in school, he exercised his preference for the interesting and out-of-the-ordinary by working as an operator for the Sandia Peak Tram. In July, 2001, BJ began employment at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, located in Chandler. He worked as a Fleet Technician and, later, as a Mechanic for their Cobra/Mustang fleet. This was the "dream job" for someone of Brandyn's interests and talents at this point in his career, and he was truly enjoying it. Brandyn is survived by his parents, Robert and Andrea Richards; and his sister, Robyn Richards, all of Albuquerque; as well as a number of close friends, all of whom will miss him terribly. A Memorial Service will be held at French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, on February 15, 2002, at noon.
