Bean -- Bina Ann "Beanie" Bean, October 23, 1936 - March 6, 2002. Beanie was born in McCamey, TX to Orville and Minnie Bean and raised in Artesia, NM. She was a registered Medical Technologist for 35 years and worked in clinics and small hospitals. She was registered with the American Society of Medical Technologists since 1958. She worked in Hospitals in Santa Rosa, Belen and Albuquerque, NM and in Ottawa, KS until her retirement due to health problems. She was proudest of her work at the Santa Rosa Hospital in the 1960's with Drs. John Galvin and Phillip Parker, and with her work with the state association of medical technologists. She won the A.M.I. Distinguished Achievement Award in 1968. Beanie was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Margaret; and her friends, Jerry Goodrich and Doris Galvin. She is survived by her"kids", Jolynn, John and Jerry Galvin, Steven Hooper; and her special"grandson", Patrick Hooper all of whom she considered her family. Beanie had many friends from Glory Christian Fellowship and St. Bernadette Catholic Church who loved and cared for her. Their support in the last weeks of her life has been greatly appreciated. She had incredible stamina in battling her many health problems which included polio, diabetes and several bouts with cancer, which was the cause of her death. Thank you to the many doctors and medical professionals who cared for her all these years at Presbyterian and UNMH. Beanie will be cremated and has asked that her ashes be buried in her family plot in Artesia. Two Memorial Gatherings will be held for Bina. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School NE, with Father Tom Zotter as Celebrant. The second will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Glory Christian Fellowship, 2417 Wyoming NE with David Wintermute officiating. Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, 821-0010.
