Szasz -- Mary Plummer Szasz, 100, a 13-year resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, March 17, 2002. A long life, well lived. She is survived by her son, Ferenc Szasz and wife, Margaret Connell Szasz of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Maria S. Szasz, Eric Garretson, Chris G. Bradley and husband, Scott; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Sean, and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferenc P. Szasz in 1984; brother, Vernon Plummer; sister, Nell White Merritt; brother, Clarence Critzman; and sister, Carol Hansen. Mrs. Szasz was born in New Hartford, IA and graduated from New Hartford High School and Cornell College in Iowa. At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest living graduates of Cornell College. She received a BA in English in 1923. In the course of her career as a high school teacher, she taught over 5000 students, always insisting that they memorize great poems or works of literature, such as the Gettysburg Address. She lived most of her life in the Midwest, moving to Arizona in the 1970's and to Albuquerque in July of 1989 to be near her family. She lived at Manzano del Sol. Cremation has taken place.
