Marquez -- Modesto Marquez, age 81, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, after a short illness. He was born in Heaton, NM, an old mining town close to Gamerco outside of Gallup, NM. He is survived by his wife, Eva; sons, Mark, Daniel and Scott Montoya; brother, Laurence Marquez; a sister; and two grandchildren, Melissa and Kimberly. He was a member and choir member of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup, St. Mary's Church, Legion of Mary, Knights of St. Gregory, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), a board member of an orphanage in Mexico for 30 years. Burial was held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M. on March 22, at 12:00 p.m.
