Dixon -- Mary Jane K. Dixon, 68, of Albuquerque since the early 1970's and of Los Angeles, CA for the past decade, died April 2, 2002 of cancer. She is survived by her three children, Rachel Hess and husband, Jim of Albuquerque, Joel Dixon and wife, Ella of Los Angeles, CA and Amy Dixon of Albuquerque. She is also survived by two brothers, John Krumboltz of Stanford, CA, David Krumboltz of Danville, CA; and one sister, Margaret Ann Phillips of Oakland, CA; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Sara, Eric, Margaret and Kathleen; and five nieces; and one nephew. Mary Dixon held degrees in education and law, but chose to be know as a social activist during her life. She was a founding member of the Albuquerque Battered Women's Shelter in the 1970's, which she considered her greatest achievement; she also started S.E.T. (Society for the Eradication of Television) in the early 1980's. Among her activities she served as president of the Santa Fe Unitarian Church in the 1960's and volunteered in many ways, the Albuquerque Rape Crisis Center, the Catholic Worker Soup Kitchen in Los Angeles, and Amnesty International in Los Angeles. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver, SW. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Albuquerque Battered Women's Shelter, P.O. Box 25363, Albuquerque, NM 87125 or to S.E.T. c/o Lisa Matt, 3331 47th St. San Diego, CA 92105. She would be honored also if you remembered her by simply turning off your TV set. Great thanks to Mary's good and faithful friends and relatives who called her during her illness or wrote cards and letters of support. She loved and appreciated them all.
