Counts -- Vivian Marie Counts, 77, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2002 in Hamilton, MT at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospice Center. Vivian was born on September 19, 1924 in Riverview, TX the daughter of the late James M. and Mary E. Martin West. She graduated from Weed High School in Weed, NM. She married Horace Counts in Alamogordo on May 4, 1944. Moved to Estancia in 1967. Vivian and her husband owned their own business in Willard and she worked at the drug store and convenience store in Estancia. She was secretary for the Torrance County Historical Society. She was a city council women and community activist. She was a master quilter and enjoyed working with ceramics and loved camping and dancing. In March of 2001, she moved to Victor, MT in order to be near her daughter. she is survived by her children, Syble Rudd and her husband, Tom of Victor, MT, Marion Wesley and Margaret Counts of Ft. Collins, CO, Ralph William Counts of Ft. Worth, TX, Harace Andrew (Shorty) and his wife, Delinda Counts of Springfield, MO; her brothers, Marion"Jim" West of Vanderhoff, BC, Paul West of Mead, OK; her sisters, Annie Robinson of Ft. Sumner, NM, Rosa Pearce of Estancia, NM, Mildred McDonald of Capitan, NM, Syble Peterman of Casper, WY, Mary Lois Phillips of Brush Creek, TN; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace in 1978; two brothers; a sister; a daughter; and two grandsons. Vivian will lie in state Saturday, September 21, 2002, 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty. A Graveside Service will be Saturday, September 21, 2002, 2:00 p.m. at the Estancia Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the New Mexico Christians Home, 1356 New Mexico #236, Portales, NM 88130-9411. Arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty and the Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel in Hamilton, MT. Grant G. Preston and Ed Leach were the funeral directors.
