Haase -- Tex Elton Haase, 61, veteran U.S. Marine, and a resident of Tucumcari for 25 years, passed away on November 9, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Maria I.V. Haase of Tucumcari; children,"Scooter" L. Haase of Harrisburg, PA, Robin H. Billmaier and husband, Michael E. of Albuquerque, Don P. Haase of Denver, CO, Tana M. Haase-Garnett and husband, D. Frank of Nara Visa, NM, Shelby L. Haase of Tucumcari, NM; mother, Jaunita F. Haase of Albuquerque; brother, Max Haase and wife, Brenda of Rainelle, WV and sister, Kay Carol Majorowicz of Albuquerque. Tex was a nationally known artist, specializing in western wood sculpture. He was a retired schoolteacher, he taught math, physics, science and art. Tex also coached wrestling, football, science club and academic decathlon. He was chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Tucumcari Schools Federal Credit Union. Member of the National Education Association - Tucumcari Education Association. He was inducted into the New Mexico National Education Association Teacher Hall of Fame, 2001. He was also a former Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Caricature Carvers of America, the BPOE Elks Lodge #1172, the Tucumcari Woodcarvers Club and judged many international, national and local woodcarving shows. Graveside service will take place on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Reverend Scott Seymour and Vicar Gay Wellborn, officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (3 blocks N. of Paseo del Norte) on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Philip O. Barry, Andrew lenselink, Carlos Aragon, Jim Lerke, Bill tausworth, Mike Lucero, Jim Streetmen, Ralph Niebel, Kenneth Bell, Bill Boone, Jimmy Sandoval, Joe Cooper, and Bill Curry. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. at Tucumcari High School Auditorium. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital Nursing Scholarship Fund in Tucumcari, The Ronald McDonald House 1011 Yale NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106 or to the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation, 504 Elm St. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
