Price -- Stephania Alene Price, 1950 - 2002, longtime Bainbridge Island, WA resident and business owner Stephania (Steph) Price passed on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at the University of Washington Hospital from complications following a routine surgical procedure. She was born the oldest child of Jess E. and Joyce A. Price in Jamestown, NY on March 4, 1950. Steph spent her youth in several small towns in New Mexico graduating from Del Norte High School in 1968 then attending UNM. After college, she worked for the Bernalillo County Juvenile Justice Dept. She then moved to Washington State in 1979 where she worked for Virginia Mason Hospital until 1988. She managed Bainbridge Babies Daycare until 1993 when she began her own home daycare, Storyteller Hollow, in the Fort Ward neighborhood of Bainbridge Island where she cared for many Island children until her passing. Although childless herself, Steph raised many children. She had six sisters and seven brothers, but her family is much larger than that. Each of the children in her charge and their families became an extended family to her. Many of the parents of her daycare children have kept close to Steph long after their children outgrew the need for childcare. They loved Steph and Steph loved them. Steph was stubborn, kind, strong-willed, gentle, opinionated, thoughtful of others, determined, accomplished, strong of spirit, generous with her time and things, and more intelligent than most. Steph perceived and honored the dignity of others and she cared about all she knew. She made friends for life. When she reached the age at which many people become set in their lifestyles, Steph took up painting and watercolor, archery and horseback riding and longtime friends presented her with a horse. Stephania Alene Price was full of life and living. She was loving and she was loved. Her passing has left a giant hole in the lives of her siblings and their families and all who loved her. She is survived by sisters, Mary Richardson (Gary) of Los Lunas, Maureen Hanson (Kendall) of Kingston, WA, Sheila Price of Olympia, WA, Ann (Joe St. John) of Spokane, WA, Kathy Price and Margaret Grabosky (Paul) of Albuquerque; brothers, Pat Price (Susan) of Allyn, WA, Mike Price (Paula) of Los Alamos, Kevin (Sue) of Collyville, TX, Timothy Price of Shoreline, WA, Sean Price (Debbie) of Albuquerque, Brendan Price (Betty Ann) of Albuquerque, and Dan Price (Paula) of Kingston WA; as well as 34 nieces and nephews; and seven grand-nieces and nephews. Steph was preceded in death by her parents, Jess E. Piece and Joyce A. Price. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Los Ninos home for children P.O. Box 2400, Los Lunas, NM 87031.
