Berlier -- Oscar Berlier of Encino and Los Chavez went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the age of 78, following a courageous battle with cancer. Oscar was born and raised near Wagon Mound. He had resided in Los Chavez since 1953, and was employed by Sandia National Labs for 30 years, while farming and ranching on the side. Since 1986 the majority of his time was spent at Encino on the ranch doing what he most enjoyed. Oscar's greatest love was his family, but he also loved ranching, hunting and fishing. He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez and a current member of the First Baptist Church of Vaughn. Oscar was a man of integrity, wisdom and strength. He worked hard to provide for those he loved. He had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilma Howell Berlier; son, Jim Berlier and wife, Vicki of Estancia; daughter, Eileen Goode and husband, Ken of Albuquerque; two granddaughters, Jennifer Berlier of Las Cruces, Sheila Aragon and husband, Dominic of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter Marisa Aragon; sister, Clara Lucas and husband, Sylvester of Albuquerque; brothers, Ralph Berlier and wife, Betty of T or C, Loyd Berlier and wife, Joyce of Deming, many loving nieces, nephews and friends, also survive him. His parents, Harry & Delia Berlier, sisters Alice Berlier, Nora Beckner, Ethel Dennis and Grace Peery and his beloved and only grandson John Berlier, preceded him in death. Visitation and services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez (5 miles South of Los Lunas on Hwy 314, across from the Old Mill store). The Visitation will be on Friday afternoon, November 22, 2002 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 11:00 a.m., with pastors Norm Riggin, Boyd Morerod and Albert Hagan officiating. Burial will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Pallbearers will be Howard Beckner, Lynn Lucas, Mark Tiley, Bill Howell, Andy Otis and Victor Powell. Honorary Pallbearers are Estevan Jaramillo, Larry Elliott, Vic Peery, Raymond Dennis and Carl Hullinger. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the John Berlier Memorial Scholarship at the Wells Fargo Bank, Estancia, NM 87016 or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2001 S.
