Joerger -- Pia Marie Joerger, a resident of Truth or Consequences, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 8, 2001. This loving, generous, compassionate and deeply religious lady loved and admired by many was born to Joseph and Verena (Canova) Joerger in Domat-Ems, Switzerland on August 29, 1918 and came to this country with her parents on March 17, 1921. She was educated in Racine, Wisconsin and Santa Fe, New Mexico and worked in the Secretary of State Office in Santa Fe for several years before serving in World War II in the European Theater with the American Red Cross. She was an accomplished pilot and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol for many years. She worked an an executive secretary in the oil industry for 25 years in Dallas, Texas when upon the death of her mother, she returned to TorC to care for her father. She worked for the City of TorC in several capacities until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church; the Desk and Derrick Club of Dallas, TX; was a Lieutenant Colonel in the American Red Cross. She is survived by her brother, Rev. Jacob J. Joerger, O.P. of Chicago, IL; her sisters, Ruth E. Sadowski and husband, Al of Albuquerque, NM, Vernena K. Urbigkiet and husband, Art of Riverton, Wyoming, Columba R. Reid and husband, Richard of Arlington, TX; a brother-in-law, Bill Wood of Belen, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph A. Joerger, her mother, Verena C. Joerger, by a brother, Oscar A. Joerger and by two sisters, Mary Ursuala Casey and Carmen B. Wood. A Vigil Service and Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 12, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and burial will follow in the Hot Springs Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers are Lou Biad, Nelson Cournoyer, Sam Isom, Diego Montoya, Lee Tafoya and Bill Wood. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Carmelite Sisters, Mt.
