Berkshire -- Pauline Hues Berkshire, longtime resident of Estancia and Albuquerque and member of a pioneer ranch family died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 Pauline was born in Lometa, TX, October 21, 1900. She moved to Estancia with her father, Berry Hues, grandmother, Kate Evans and aunt, Chance Evans in 1905. Pauline married Homer J. Berkshire in 1919 and they shared almost 62 wonderful years. Homer and Pauline homesteaded in the Estancia valley where their family continues to ranch. In 1976, they expanded their ranching operation with the purchase of Gallegos Ranch in Harding County. Pauline will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a lady in the finest sense of the word, a hard worker, a gracious hostess, and an amazing woman in many ways. She left her loved ones a rich heritage of memories an example of how to live each day with a passion. Pauline is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Jane Oberg; three grandsons, Michael L. and wife, Linda of Logan, Patrick H. and wife, Kathy and Gary O of Estancia; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Nell Arnett of Albuquerque. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Homer J. Berkshire; and son, Jack Lee Berkshire. Visitation will be Thursday, July 19, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 20, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Interment will follow at Estancia Valley Cemetery with Homer Paul Oberg, Travis Lee Oberg, Josh Oberg, John Shane Oberg, Kyle John Berkshire and Alfredo Chavez serving as Pallbearers. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Estancia Cemetery fund c/o Pat Oberg or Gary Berkshire, P.O. Box 222 Estancia, NM, 87016, or to the charity of your choice. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is in charge of her arrangements.
