REED -- Frankie T. Reed passed away on Monday, September 12, 2005. He is survived by his son, Darrell Reed and wife, Lavon; daughter, Vone Hess and husband, Rob; his wonderful sister, Ruthan Thwaits and husband, Bill; brother, John Goodwin and wife, Lavon; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held for family and friends. THIAS -- Louis H. Thias, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Friday, September 16, 2005. He is survived by his three daughters, Mary Smith and husband, Bill of Phoenix, AZ, Carol Saavedra and husband, Ronn of Albuquerque, and Pamela Wilson of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Pete Landau, Jeff Smith, Linda Bailey, Mary Bailey and Megan Thias; four step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Lou was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Thias in 1998. He was born in Seymour, IN on Feb 22, 1918. Lou served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1960 where he worked for AT&T until his retirement in 1983. Lou was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University, NE on Monday, September 19, 2005 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. BIRGE -- Walter C. Birge, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on September 14, 2005 after a long illness. He was born to Walter C. and Ruth Byrne Birge on July 6, 1918 in Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Berry Morrison, who passed away in 1988; his parents; his brother, Jim; and sister, Letty Wren. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Arneberg, of Chicago, IL; children, Beth Gattas Waskow and husband, John, Sue Howard and husband, Dwight; Martha Birge, Becky Canfield and husband, Michael, Peggy Brodsky and husband, Bill, John Birge of Albuquerque, and Nora Goodloe and husband, Rick, of Atlanta, GA; 13 grandchildren, Jeff and Brian Gattas of California, Bethie Gattas, Emily and Ted Howard, Kathryn, Erin, Claire and Colleen Canfield, and Rivkela and Ariela Brodsky of Albuquerque, Burke Goodloe and wife, Dawn of Atlanta and Jenna Goodloe Wade and husband, Jack of Memphis, TN; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Keely Goodloe of Atlanta and Burke Wade of Memphis, TN; his sister-in-law, Julia "Cissie" O'Malley; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Margaret Mangham. Walter graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago in 1936. He joined the Army Air Corps, served in World War II as a bombardier and was a bombardier instructor at Kirtland AFB. In 1959, Walter graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Walter served as a career officer in the Air Force and retired in Albuquerque in 1969 after receiving his Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. After moving to Albuquerque, Walter worked for the University of New Mexico for 31 years. He initiated the UNM Parking Service and directed it for ten years. After that he enjoyed working at the UNM South and North Golf Courses until his retirement in 2003. Wally was an avid golfer, talker and a wonderful father. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2005 at Queen of Heaven, 5311 Phoenix Avenue NE, Albuquerque. HEWETT -- Billy D. Hewett, 74, passed away peacefully September 14, 2005 at his home near Moriarty, New Mexico. He was born October 15, 1930 in a log cabin Northwest of Mountainair, NM to Marcus E. and Nina Autry Hewett. Bill was the sixth of seven brothers born to the family. He is survived by two of these brothers and one sister-in-law, Jack C. Hewett of Mountainair and Marvin R. and Faye Hewett of El Paso, TX. His parents and four brothers, Marcus A. Hewett, Le Roy Hewett, John W. Hewett, and Connie D. Hewett preceded him in passing. Bill served in the Second Armored Division of the U.S. Army in occupied Germany during the war in Korea. On June 18, 1955, Bill married Iris Rose Leplat in Albuquerque and they celebrated fifty years in this union earlier this year. In 1982, Bill retired from Mountain States Telephone Company/US West after 28 years. This retirement allowed Bill to pursue his life passion full-time, ranching and farming. During his life, Bill worked on, managed, or owned New Mexico ranches near Santa Fe, House, Fort Sumner, Moriarty, and Mountainair. He was a very astute cowman and more importantly, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bill was a member of the Estancia branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In the mid-1960s, he was involved in establishing the first congregations of this church in the Estancia Valley, when Sunday meetings were conducted at member residences. In addition to those named above, Bill is survived by his wife, Iris of the home; and one brother-in-law, Emile Leplat of Mountainair. He is also survived by three sons, Marcus B. Hewett and wife, Christa of Moriarty, Lelan D. Hewett and wife, Edwina of Mountainair, and Arlan K. Hewett and wife, Kimberly of Las Cruces. Bill also has several grandchildren: Matt, Adam, Landsen, Joshua, Clarissa, and Stephen Hewett, Jessica, Michael, and Keith Weber, and Segan Frazier. He also greatly loved his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Estancia, NM. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Mountainair Cemetery in Mountainair, NM. JONES -- Martha Jean Jones, 78, formerly from Albuquerque, currently from Truth or Consequences, NM, passed away Monday, September 12, 2005. She was born November 22, 1927 in Albuquerque, NM. She retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools. Martha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. It was her strong love of life and family that sustained her through a long and hard battle with lung disease. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; the Sierra Vista Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed working with ceramics. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Julian Jones, Sr.; by her sons, Earl Lowe and daughter-in-law, Ruth of Elephant Butte, NM; daughter, Vickie Kramer and son-in-law, Dan from Tulsa, OK; son, Clyde "Bo" Lowe from Corona, CA; son, Bill Jones from Santa Maria, CA; and son Julian Jones, Jr. from Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren - Dawn, Wendy, Cori, Amy, Jake and J. J.; by her four great-grandchildren - Chase Moody, Brynn Moody, Emma Grile and Daniel Grile; and by her sister, Polly Brown of Ft. Worth, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Noma Burnette. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 16, 2005 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Kirikos Family Funeral Home and Services will be conducted on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Mr. Neal Brown officiating.
