Feak -- Longtime former Albuquerque resident, Carl H."Bud" Feak, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the Sierra Health Care Center in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. He was born on April 9, 1926 in Albuquerque. He was the son of Carl H. Feak Sr. and Gertrude (nee Dicks) Feak, both of Albuquerque. Bud was a lifelong resident of New Mexico and a devoted husband to his wife, Joy Donaldson for 48 years, who preceded him in death. He is survived by one sister, Jean Weber of Auburn, CA; two children, Marsha Feak Smith and Carl Feak III, both of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Diana, Alexandra and Abraham; and two great-grandchildren. He attended Albuquerque High School and graduated from the University of New Mexico. Bud served in the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and Ballut Abyad Shrine. He owned and operated Feak and Shaffer Insurance Company and the Coronado Insurance Agency in Albuquerque. He had a great love of flying and held a private license and commercial pilot's license for many years. Mr. Feak and his wife retired in 1981 and relocated to Elephant Butte, New Mexico where he had resided since. He was also a member of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral in Albuquerque and the VFW Post #1389 in Elephant Butte. At Bud's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. The family wishes to thank the many friends and acquaintances of Bud and Joy Feak for their kindness shown. Arrangements are by French Mortuary of T or C, Inc. Barge -- Dolly Barge, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000. She is survived by her sons, John Kibby Andresen of Albuquerque and Gilbert E. Andresen and wife, Sue of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Susan Rae Aragon of Albuquerque, James R. Andresen of Pahrump, NV and Mark E. Andresen of Las Vegas, NV; great-grandsons, Adam H. Aragon and Matt I. Aragon, both of Albuquerque; niece, Aileen Zaganelli of Goreville, IL; great-niece, Patricia Smith of St. Peters, MO; and brothers and sister-in-law, Dr. & Mrs. Ernest Schwaiger of Houston, TX and Dr. Norman Baldwin of Linn, MO. Dolly was preceded in death by her first husband, John in 1968; second husband, Fred Barge in 1974; daughter-in-law, Katy Andresen in 1993; and sister, Betty Jane Howard. She was born in St. Louis, MO on December 25, 1909, the youngest of five children. When Dolly was born, her mother decided to name her Dolly because the other children in the family had their dolls and now she would have her own Dolly. Fred and Dolly came to Albuquerque in October 1956 shortly after they were married. Most of Fred's family lived here and they still kept in touch with Dolly even though Fred passed away 26 years ago. After moving to Albuquerque, Dolly learned how to drive a car. Never having a Social Security card before, Dolly received her first card in 1957. She didn¯t want to stay at home anymore so she took a course in hotel management. For a little over two years she managed two motels; both of which have been torn down and replaced with other businesses. She was able to tell a lot of stories about the motel business. In 1998 Dolly ended 27 years in the restaurant business. She and her son, Kibby, co-owner, sold the Duke City Restaurant at 9200 Central Avenue SW. The Duke City Restaurant had been a popular eating place for many of the Park Plaza residents. In 1975 Dolly was named the first lady president of the New Mexico Restaurant Association and had a lifetime membership. Dolly had lived at Park Plaza condominiums for the past 29 years. She enjoyed the lifestyle and the security. She was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha, Petroleum Club, and Elk¯s Club. Mrs. Barge was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, MO. Since coming to Albuquerque in 1956, Dolly had subscribed to the Missouri newspaper, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. After she read it, she gave it to her son who also enjoys reading about local St. Louis news. Dolly was very proud of her three grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Myron White officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. He worked in sales and marketing for the Marriott Corporation for many years and had very strong ties to the golf industry. He was National Director of sales for Arnold Palmer Golf Management Company in Orlando, Florida before forming his own consulting firm, Golf Marketing Solutions, and then creating Private Club Network, of which he was most proud.

Achen -- Ethel S. Achen, 84, a resident of Fort Sumner since 1996 and a longtime resident of Yeso, died Friday, July 14, 2000 at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, TX, following an illness. Mrs. Achen was born May 11, 1916 in Doretta, San Miguel County, NM, to the home of Albert Oliver Smith and the former Mary Cox. She moved with her family to Yeso at the age of seven. She attended school at Buchanan and Yeso until the eighth grade. She attended and graduated from Fort Sumner High School. Following graduation, she attended Amarillo Junior College, Highlands University, and Eastern New Mexico University. She married Marcel Hubert Bruce Achen on October 22, 1938. Together they ranched at Yeso. The Achen family continues to operate the family ranch. Ethel began her teaching career at Yeso, NM in 1938, a position that lasted 29 years until the school closed in 1967. While teaching at Yeso she was instrumental in organizing the Yeso P.T.A., a Boy Scout Troop, and a 4-H Club. In 1967, she began teaching third grade at the Fort Sumner Elementary School. She taught at Fort Sumner until her retirement in 1973. Throughout her teaching career she was a master teacher, never accepting second-best from a student. She was honored in 1967 as the Masonic Teacher of the Year. She was also elected to the"Hall of Fame" for the Southeast District of the National Education Association - New Mexico. Ethel was a member of NM Education Retirees, she enjoyed playing canasta with her friends and making crafts. She made the most beautiful carpet hangings. Ethel was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Marcel Hubert Bruce Achen in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Jack Achen and wife, Tammy of Yeso, NM, Tyson Achen and wife, Adie of Las Cruces; a daughter, Marcie Salopek and husband, Mark of Las Cruces. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Laura Smith of Corrales. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2000, from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM. Rev. Jim Peabody will officiate. Burial will follow at Yeso Cemetery, Yeso, NM. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, J.O. Achen, Buddy Achen, Brad Achen, Dustin Salopek, Adam Salopek, Casey Achen, and Clayton Scorzafava. Honorary bearers will include Lewis Hisel, Charlie Overton, Paul Horney, Albert Perez, Ted McCollum, Jose Garcia, F.B. Willis, Bob Smith, and all her friends and neighbors. The family prefers memorials to the Ethel Achen Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Citizens Bank of Fort Sumner, P.O. Box 490, Fort Sumner, NM 88119. The casket will be closed at the church service. Moore-Pierce -- Barbara A. Moore-Pierce, 61, born and raised in Albuquerque, resident of Texas since 1969, died Friday, July 9, 2000. She is survived by her sons, Zane Allen Moore and wife, Kathy and William Kurt Moore; sister, Carolyn Pierce Smith and husband, Mac; grandchildren, Price William and Dustin Eric Jackson all of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Vivian Pierce. Garner -- Agnes Jackson Garner, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 8, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, A.J. Garner, Jr. of Albuquerque; son, Jack Garner and wife, Lynn Johnson of Golden, CO; daughter, Betty Garner of Ada, OK; granddaughter, Sara Schlundt and husband, Joe of Houston, TX; grandson, Travis Garner of Ft. Collins, CO; sister, Hannah Mae White of Tucson, AZ; beloved nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Ken & Nancy Bishop of Bosque Farms, NM. Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her son, Edward Byrch Garner; brothers, Bill, Edward, Joe and Bernard Jackson; and sister, Mary Ellen Jackson. Agnes was born in Cimarron, NM on June 6, 1918 and attended school in Cimarron. She attended New Mexico State and received a degree in Biology. Agnes married A.J. Garner in 1944. Mrs. Garner taught school in Carrizozo and Cimarron. The Garners moved to Riverton, WY in 1947 on the G.I. Homestead Bill. They returned to NM in 1954 and she taught in the Santa Fe schools until 1975. At that time Mr. & Mrs. Garner moved to East Africa for 2 years where they lived in Nakuru, Kenya. In 1977 they moved Silver City, NM where she taught until her retirement in 1979. They moved to Albuquerque in the late 80's. After her retirement, they enjoyed traveling and were active in the Forest Service Amigos and in their family. They spent their winters in Albuquerque and their summers in the Brazos where they enjoyed the outdoors. Services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary¯Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Joe Jackson, Mike Jackson, Tom Jackson, Ken Bishop, Travis Garner and Joe Schlundt. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Jim Harrelson, Gene Williams, Johnny Mutz, Scott Jackson, Bill Jackson, Monroe Telford and Freddye Johnson.
