Montoya -- Celso R. Montoya, 60, died at his home in La Jara, NM on March 5, 1998, after a six year battle with cancer. He was a member of the Santo Nino Church in La Jara, NM and an active member of the Guadalupanos; he was a musician and was awarded the New Mexico Traditional Hispanic Folk Music award on October 24, 1997 in Santa Fe, NM, which is in the Hall of Fame in the Onate Center in Alcadle, NM; he was awarded Citizen of the Year in Cuba, NM in 1990, and received an award for Unselfish Devotion to Family, Friends and Community in 1997 by the Fiesta de Cuba, and many other plaques for his unselfish hard work, dedication and loyalty to the community; he retired from the Cuba Independent Schools in 1996. He was preceded in death by his son, Patrocinio Montoya in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nestorita Montoya; three sons, Ricardo Montoya of La Jara, NM, Orlando Montoya and his wife, Clarice of Farmington, NM, Jose Montoya and his wife, Jessica of Albuquerque; three daughters, Ramona Lyon and husband, Bill of La Jara, NM, Catalina Lovato and husband, Alex, Maria Mernin and husband, Mike, both of Farmington, NM; 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Sylvia Cordova, Armolita Herrera, both of La Jara, NM, and Celia Sanchez of Albuquerque. Mr. Montoya will lie in state today after 5:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, NM, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., also at the church. Interment will follow at Santo Nino Catholic Cemetery in La Jara, NM. Casketbearers will be Delfin Sanchez, Vidal Jaquez, Eddie Lovato, Bonifaco Gutierrez, David Sanchez, Sam Olivias, and Jose Montoya. Honorary casketbearers will be Los Guadalupanos and the Catholic Daughters of America. For floral assistance, please call 243-5222.
