Dad came honestly by his military spirit through a long family tradition of military service, on his father's side, including four generations of soldiers dating to the American Revolution. His grandfather, Major Howard Morton, a decorated Civil War veteran with the 5th Pennsylvania Artillery, was the great grandson of George Morton, the financial agent of the Pilgrims in London, whose son, Nathanial, sailed to America in the "Ann" two years after the "Mayflower", and kept the records of the colony for over forty years. Dad was a dedicated patriot who loved his country and defended her honor for more than three decades. After retiring from the Air Force in 1974, he was active in Saint Chad's Episcopal Church, as well as Camp Stony and Habitat for Humanity. Dad enjoyed traveling the world, playing and watching golf, and spending time with family and friends. Dad was preceded in death by our mother, Dorothy K. REED -- KIM WARREN Dr. Reed was born October 20, 1952 in Phoenix, AZ, passed away Friday morning, September 9, 2011 in Albuquerque, NM, after a period of declining health. Kim was an extraordinary person and exceptionally creative individual who thrived on the unexplored. Kim's dedication and love of science and engineering were an inspiration to those who truly knew him, and his extreme and ongoing generosity to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Christmas charity drives lifted the spirits of hundreds of children in need over many years. Kim was also a regular every year serving Thanksgiving meals to those in need. Kim was a charter member of a motorcycle group, "The BABBs." He was always in good humor, great fun to be around, an experienced, super-safe rider, and a guy who truly loved Harleys and the BABBs group. His work on state-changing dielectrics and solid state opening switches was truly ground breaking. As a Professor he was a mentor to his students. Most of all, Kim was a man with a BIG, TENDER HEART OF GOLD. He was brilliant, sensitive, wonderful, funny, fun, generous, creative, and a best friend and brother, whose integrity, honesty, and sense of ethics was rivaled by none. Kim will be deeply missed and long remembered with great affection. He is survived by his sister, Kris Bowen-Reed; and two brothers, Gregory Rand Reed, and Allen Brent Reed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in his name, to St Jude's Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
