Hedberg -- Carl A. Hedberg passed away Saturday, September 9, 2000 of cancer. He was 87. He was born and raised in Denver. He earned degrees in electronics engineering from both the University of Denver and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He worked at Bells Lab in New York and at Los Alamos Labs before spending the majority of this career working at the University of Denver. There he founded the Denver Research Institute. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Mary Alice; and his son, William Charles. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Allison Hedberg and his nieces, Wilma Jean Lent of Phoenix and Elizabeth Ann Kircos of Detroit. In honor of his wishes, no services are planned. In place of flowers, contributions may be made to the Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Dr., Pine Ridge, SD 57770.

Morris -- Jessie S. Morris, 49, passed away September 17, 2000. She was a loving and faithful mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and a friend to many. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Philip, Sr. and Jennie Duran; daughter, Reymunda Baca; and sister-in-law, Melba Duran. She is survived by her husband, Jody Zabala; son, John Morris and wife, Sherri; brothers, Philip Duran, Jr., Joe Hidalgo and wife, Lupe, Eddie Duran and wife, Socorro, and John Duran and wife, Linda; three grandchildren, Robert, Ashley and Ally Rey; and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss her. A visitation will be held in the Chapel of Direct Funeral Services on Tuesday, September 19, 2000, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2000 and Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2000. Burial will follow at San Carlos Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phillip Urioste, Robert Duran, Eddie Duran, Philip Duran, Jr., David Barbero, and John Barela. Parker -- James David Parker, 37, died suddenly September 16, 2000 Dallas, Texas. He was born December 9, 1962 in McAllen, Texas. He received his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin and his MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He was employed with Y-Medical in Irving, Texas. Internment will take place at the Hooks Cemetery in Kountze, Texas. Arrangements are being made by R.S. Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, Texas. David is survived by his mother, Gail Parker; his step-father, Robert Lopez; his brother, Mark Parker; and his sister, Andrea McEneny and her husband, Richard McEneny, all of the Albuquerque area. In addition, his uncle, William H. Parker and his wife, Ann Parker reside in Koutze, Texas. David was preceded in death by his father, James F. Parker, Jr.

Pecastaing -- Cyril"Cye" Pecastaing, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Sunday, September 17, 2000. He is survived by his sons, Louis Pecastaing and Mary Ann, and Michael Cyril Pecastaing, all of Albuquerque, and Frank Pecastaing and wife, Angela of Las Cruces; granddaughters, Tyia Pecastaing of California, Michelle Pecastaing of Belen, Jennifer Callinan and husband, Shane and Danielle Antoinette Pecastaing, all of Albuquerque, and Kayla Pecastaing of Las Cruces; grandsons, Marcel Pecastaing of Belen, Nicholas Pecastaing, Gabriel Pecastaing and Michael Andre Pecastaing, all of Albuquerque; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Frances Parrel of New Orleans, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace O. Pecastaing; and son, James Marcel Pecastaing. Mr. Pecastaing was a founding member of the Holy Ghost Church and was a member of the choir. He was president of the Model Railroad Club and was also a member of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus Band. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., at Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona SE. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 9:00 a.m, at Holy Ghost Church, with Fr. Thomas J. Mayefske, Celebrant. Rowlett -- Mary I."Mickie" Rowlett, 74, of Tucson, formerly of Sanderson, TX, died September 16, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Master Sergeant Hal J. Rowlett of Tinker Air Force Base. Beloved mother of Michael Tasker and Robin Purdy; grandmother of Shannon, Eric and Kurtis Purdy, and Joshua and Matthew Tasker; sister of Wilma Ruggles (William) of Wilton, CT; aunt of John and Richard Ruggles. Rusek -- Sister Mary Calasantia Rusek (Helen Rusek) died on Saturday, September 16, 2000 at the Felician Sisters Convent in Rio Rancho. She was born on January 14, 1909, in Evanston, Illinois to Anthony and Marianne (Dominiak) Rusek, both of Poland. Sister Calasantia served in Religious Life for 70 years as a Felician-Franciscan. She was certified in the culinary arts by the Fanny Farmer School of Cooking in Boston, Massachusetts, and ministered in nutrition services in schools, convents, and orphanages across ten states for 58 years. She also enjoyed handcrafts and sewing. She is preceded in death by her parents; three infant brothers; brothers, John and Casimir Rusek; sisters, Mary Rusek, Anna Ponkowski and Lottie Milecki. Several nieces and nephews survive her. A Wake Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2000. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the convent at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2000, with Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Thomas -- Artist (Art) John Thomas, 85, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2000. He was born January 17, 1915 In Hartshorne, Oklahoma. He graduated from Haskell Indian School, Lawrence, Kansas in 1935. He moved to Dulce, NM, he was a mechanic at the Powerhouse in 1938. His work career included International Harvester, Willy's Jeep, Galles Motors. He retired from UNM motor pool in 1981. He was a resident of Albuquerque since 1946. For many summers he lived at Stone House Lodge, Heron Lake, NM. He is survived by a brother, Jimmie Rivers and wife, Maria of Placerville, CA; a daughter, Artiste Morrow of Aurora, CO; two sons, Thomas John Thomas and wife, Diana of Albq., Martin (Ray) Thomas and wife, Judi of Sandia Park, NM; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and loyal fishing buddy, Elliot Martin of Albq. Memorial services will held on the West side of Heron Lake State Park on Saturday, September 23, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Albuquerque, or plant a rose bush. Utterback -- Gertrude (Trudi) Utterback, born April 16, 1920, in Decatur, IL to Claude and Dora Quickel, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2000. She was a resident of Albuquerque for 36 years. She is survived by her children, Carol VandenBos and husband, Roger of Kalamazoo, MI, Larry Utterback and wife, Marie-Paule of Albuquerque and Debra Cox and husband, Kenneth also of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity Church (Episcopal). Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary, University Chapel, 1111 University NE, with Rev. Peter Schoew and Rev. Paul Collins, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul NE.
