Altman -- Dr. Emmett Altman, age 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, died Monday, April 26, 1999 in a local hospital following an illness. Mr. Altman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dr. Adele Altman of Albuquerque; one daughter, Dr. Karen Altman of Los Angeles, CA; two sons, Dr. Brian Altman and Dr. Alan Altman and wife, Kathy, all of Albuquerque; one brother, Fred Altman of New Hampshire. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Ryan, Meaghan, Kelly, Kaela, Kyle and Kevin Altman; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Altman began his practice of Orthopedic surgery in Jamaica, NY in 1955. He continued his practice in Albuquerque from 1967 to 1999. He was a member of numerous medical and civic organizations and was a veteran of WWII and Korea. Dr. Altman was an avid hunter and scuba diver. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. in Congregation B'Nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Rabbi Isaac H. Celnik and Cantor Josh Perlman officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Brian Altman, Dr. Alan Altman, Ryan Altman, Meaghan Altman, Kelly Altman, Kyle Altman, and Kevin Altman serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Karen Altman and Fred Altman. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Anti-Defamation League of B'Nai B'Rith, P.O. Box 21639, Albuquerque, NM 87154 or the Orthopedic Unit at St. Joseph Hospital. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, is in charge of arrangements.

Ball -- Douglas R. Ball, 47, a native of Albuquerque, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 after a long illness. A devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor, he was preceded in death by his parents, Myrl W. and Gladys F. Ball; and his oldest sister, Anne Marie Ball. He is survived by his sister, Alice C. Rakes of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; three brothers, Roy E. Ball and Nelson T. Ball of Albuquerque, and Kenneth M. Ball of Conifer, Colorado; three nephews; two nieces and many wonderful friends and relatives of all ages. Doug was a graduate of Valley High School and the University of Albuquerque, a Sunday school teacher and a choir member at Harwood United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at Harwood United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo NW, Alb, NM 87107, Saturday, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harwood.

Blair -- C. Ruth Blair, 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 78, years, died Friday, April 23, 1999. She is survived by her son, Samuel H. Blair and wife, Barbara of Tome, NM; daughter, Beryl Whitlow and husband, Gary of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Bonnie Selva of Tome, NM, Mary Ruth Olsen and husband, Tom of Peru, SA, Frances Savage of Albuquerque, Sacha Blair of Tome, NM, Shana Obermiller and husband, Scott of College Station, TX; and grandson, Lt. Reagan Whitlow and wife, Deeanne of Eagle River, AK; great-grandchildren, Shawn Selva, Nisse, Haley and Benjamin Olsen, Sulie, and Jason Savage. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Sam B. Blair. Mrs. Blair was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and of United Methodist Women-Elizabeth Circle, and North Albuquerque Lioness Club for 43 years and also a member of the Questers and Sanctuary SS Classes. She was the secretary for the UNM Alumni Office for many years. Services will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Bowman -- Billy Paul Bowman, age 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, loving husband and father, passed away April 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet Bowman; three sons, Mark and wife, Jessica Bowman of Los Lunas, William and wife, Kim Bowman of Albuquerque, Rodney and wife, Cindy Rutledge of El Paso; daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Lou Jaramillo of Dallas; two brothers, Wilson Bowman and wife, Verna of Scottsdale, AZ, George Bowman and wife, Loree of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Faye Goracke of Camp Verde, AZ, Jenny Meller of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Eleanor, Brandi Bowman of Albuquerque, Lucas Bowman of Albuquerque, Ryan and Meghan Rutledge and Corina Jaramillo of Dallas, TX; preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and George Bowman of Arizona. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him for his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed by his family. Our hearts are broken for losing such a wonderful man, but we were blessed to have had him in our lives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Risen Savior Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 28, 1999, with Father Paul Baca as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum on Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cancer Society or a favorite charity. Dean -- Nell L. Dean, 95, passed away April 20, 1999. She is survived by her son, Robert and wife, Betty of Corrales; grandsons, Mike and wife, LuAnne of Albuquerque, David and wife, Becky of Westminster, CO; five great-grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Rice of Albuquerque; plus many nieces and nephews. A private family memorial will be held.

Farless -- Mr. William V."Bill" Farless, 70, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 26, 1999. Mr. Farless was the beloved husband of 18 years to Sue J. Farless. Mr. Farless is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl K. Meador and husband, Gary and Wendy Thigpen and husband, Justin; three sons, Ron Farless and wife, Robyn, William E. Farless and Danny Purcella and wife, Monteal; two sisters, Dell Fields and Qutah Joyner and husband, Al; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Farless was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred; daughter, Charlene; sister, Peggy Wright; brother, Tom (T.L.) Farless; two grandsons, Timothy and Bonnie. Mr. Farless was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in WWII, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #611, past member of Masonic Lodge Temple 6 and past member of Bernalillo County Sheriffs Posse. Visitation for Mr. Farless will be Thursday afternoon, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, with final viewing after 9:00 a.m. Pastor David Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Ahlgrim, Randy Ahlgrim, Joseph Farless, Dennis Massegee, Gary Meador and Danny Purcella. Freedman -- Arnold Freedman, a resident of Albuquerque for 20 years, passed away on April 27, 1999. Arnold loved maintaining his Jewish culture and heritage. He loved is wife, Sylvia; his three sons, Ted and his wife, Lori, Mark and his wife, Ellie, and Larry; his two grandchildren, Barak and Sahar; his brother, Sol; and his sister, Norma. He had a corny sense of humor and made sure everyone heard it. His spirit will live on with everyone he came in contact with. Arnold worked with the Vaughan Company Realtors for the past 17 years. He received great satisfaction in the personal contacts he made while working there. When people remember Arnold, it will be with a smile on their face. Arnold took particular interest in studying Jewish immigration to the United States and the struggle of Jews to overcome all obstacles throughout history. He received great pleasure in teaching this heritage to others, especially youth. Services will be held on Thursday, April 29 at 9:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Anna Kaseman Hospital Staff in the ER and the Presbyterian Hospital Staff in the CCU. Gann -- John W. Gann, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth F. Gann; sons, Jay Gann and Robert Gann; and other family including Gracen Johnsen, Carole Gann, Kimberly Garber, Melinda Reeder, David Gann, Sybil Evans; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Gann served his country during WWII in the US 8th Air Force. He was a former resident of Dallas, TX, where he was a member of Urban Park Baptist Church and worked 45 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone. Mr. Gann was also a member of the original Dallas Newsboys Club. He loved to attend Hoffmantown Church on television. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. Garcia -- Martha C. Garcia, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Irene Rose Rael and husband, Justin of Alpine, CA; sons, Richard W. Garcia and wife, Laura, Robert L. Garcia, Bernie J. Garcia and wife, Laura, all of Albuquerque, and Ernest R. Garcia and wife, Barbara of Vancouver, WA; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Sammie Chavez and wife, Arcie of Albuquerque; special niece, Marie Elena Sanchez and husband, Waldo of Albuquerque; and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nevarez A. Garcia; grandson, Larry B. Garcia; and great-granddaughter, Janine Pino. Mrs. Garcia was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish.
