AKER, JOYCE Age 73, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, January 31, 2015. She was born in Kentucky and has been a resident of New Mexico for more than 60 years. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Marlin Aker, Jr.; children Pamela and husband Ron McCall, Mendy and husband Mark Newman and Marlin "Lin" Aker, III; three grandchildren Jordan McCall, Amanda Newman and Heather Newman; siblings Neil Simmons and wife Cristie and Malissa and husband Gary Goff; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. BURKS, LIMMUEL Limmuel Burks (89 years old) was born June 12, 1925. He passed into eternal rest on Saturday, January 31, 2015 after a long illness, surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Katie, Jeannette, Irene, Beverly and son Dehaven. CALKINS, PHILIP D. Philip D. Calkins, "Phil," 55, passed away February 3, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, of Albuquerque; sisters, Cheryl Cordero and husband Steve, of Rio Rancho, Kathy Cooney and husband Pat, of Los Lunas; brothers, Cliff Calkins, of Norcross, GA, Mike Calkins and wife Carol, of Aurora, CO, and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Rose and Neil Calkins, and his brother, Kevin. He worked for many years in residential construction and was a big LOBO fan. CLOPTON, HENRY D. A resident of Town Creek, Alabama since 2010, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away January 23, 2015. In March, there will be a gathering to pour Henry's ashes into the Tennessee River. Henry was born March 23, 1928 in Courtland, Alabama. He was preceded in death by son Kenneth Clopton. He is survived by his wife Madeline Clopton; sons Harold Clopton and Karl Clopton; daughter Debra Clopton; and grandchildren Kyle Frank and Mecole Clopton. Many friends cherish Henry's memory. Henry enjoyed spending the last years of his life fishing almost every day and living off of crappie, bluegill and shellcrackers.

FITZGERALD, EMMALEY JEAN Was born in Garrison, ND to Rose and George Fitzgerald on November 7, 1962. The family then moved to the "Bad Lands " of ND to an area known as Squaw Gap, where she grew up and graduated high school in Sidney, MT. After graduating Beauty School in Bozeman, MT, she moved to Albuquerque in the late 1980's where she pursued a secondary career in banking/accounting while staying involved in hair dressing. On May 1st, 1989 she met Christopher Mabray on a blind date and entered into an enduring relationship until her unexpected death on the 22nd of January. She is survived by her siblings, Tammy, Slade, Madonna, Duff, Patty and their respective families, all of North Dakota and her adoptive Mabray family of Albuquerque. Memorial services will be held at the Albuquerque Shrine Center, 6600 Zuni SE, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on February 28th. She is and will always be missed.

GABALDON, EDUARDO C. age 100, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015, a home with his family at his side. Mr. Gabaldon is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Martha; children, James E. Gabaldon and fiancee, Loreen, Linda Gabaldon, Nancy Merritt, Mona Padilla and husband, Mark, Tita Gomez and husband, Johnny, Lisa Trujillo and husband, Bernie; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Gabaldon was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. Visitation will be Monday, February 9, 2015, from 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church 2401 Broadway SE. GESELL, ELMER "GUS" Elmer Gesell, "Gus", 89 years young, died January 23, 2015 at home with his family by his side. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, best friend and wife of 68 years; three daughters; a son-in-law; five grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. He was a proud WWII veteran, a member of the 5th Marine Division of the US Marine Corps and fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a long-standing member of the American Legion. In 1983, he retired after 38 years as a dye-cast analyst for OMC Johnson Motors in Illinois, and moved with his wife to Rio Rancho. He will be remembered as a loving, valiant, affable man, a keen duplicate bridge player and avid golfer. He had a true zest for life with a glimmer in his eye. His generosity continued in death as he donated his body for research and education. He will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico and await his wife to continue their journey hand-in-hand as they did in life. The family expresses their gratitude for the care shown by VA Health Care personnel over the years.

HEISER, FRED L. Fred L. Heiser, 66, entered into the kingdom of heaven on Tuesday, February 3rd. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Francine; two daughters Wanda Caldwell and husband Wess, Rene Byer and husband William. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Shelton, Brandyn, Trenten, and Kimberley Caldwell and Kyle and Ryan Byer; sisters, Joanne McDaniel, Jean Bentley (Chuck); and step-sister Sue Shaw (Ron). He is also survived by many other family members and friends. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Rd., ABQ, NM 87107 on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:00AM. LARUE, JANE Jane LaRue, 93, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died in her home on February 4, 2015. She was born on May 12, 1921 in Carrizozo, NM to William S. (Bill) Norman and Laura Dalton Norman. She was always proud of her educational accomplishments, and graduated at age 16 from Carrizozo High School. She moved to Albuquerque in 1937 and attended the Western School for Secretaries. It was in Albuquerque that she met and married her husband of 56 years, James A. (Jimmy) LaRue. Jane worked in the insurance industry for the Seligman, Thomas & Faber, and Osoff agencies. She was also president of the Insurance Women's Club of Albuquerque, and a member of the Excel Bridge Club from the early '60s to the summer of 2013. Jane was also part of the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years and a member of the St. Mary's School PTA. She also enjoyed being part of the Immaculate Conception Church. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, James A. LaRue, and her sister and brother-in-law, Edie and Frank Manfredi. She is survived by her children, Claudia McConnell, with whom she shared a home, Karen Stevens of Las Cruces, NM, Michael LaRue and his wife, Mary, of West Long Branch, NJ, and Laurie Tomlinson and her husband, Bob, of Los Alamos, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawn McConnell and his wife, Teresa, of Hoonah, Alaska, Lisa McConnell and her husband, Toshiaki Tange, of Barcelona, Spain, Sarah Stevens of Las Cruces, NM, Amy LaRue of West Chester, PA, and Jillian Tomlinson of Long Island City, NY; and her great- grandchildren, Casey and Kyle McConnell, Julien and Luka Bader, and Raven and Quinlan Pope. She also leaves her nephews, Carl Manfredi (Patti) and Bill Manfredi (Shirley), and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will greatly miss her warm heart and delightful sense of humor. The family wishes to extend their thanks to Heritage Hospice and Helping Hands Caregivers, especially to Yuri, Matt, Wendy and Jayne. MARTINEZ, BERNABE (BERNIE) Age 75, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 after battling cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother Rafaelita Martinez and brother Joseph Martinez. MODROW, HAROLD E. II Harold (Hal) Modrow peacefully left this earth on February 2, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 16, 1926 in Springfield, IL to Harold E. Sr. and Thelma Modrow. He joined the Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war, Hal met the love of his life, Dorothy at Northwestern Univ and were married on July 22, 1950. They loved to travel and after retirement spent most of their time traveling in their motor home, especially with the Ballut Abyud Nomads. Hal was a fifty-year member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, and a proud member of Ballut Abyud Shrine Temple. Hal was most proud of his family who loved and adored him. He leaves behind his three children, Mary S. Modrow of Albuquerque, Harold (Harry) E. Modrow III (wife Patricia) of Walkersville, MD, and Jean A. Groepler (husband Jim) of Lilesville, NC. He is also survived by three adoring grandchildren, Eric J. Modrow (wife Erin) of Ashburn, VA, Katherine P. Modrow and James L. Groepler; and two wonderful great-granddaughters, Natalie & Amanda Modrow. Hal was preceded in death by Dorothy and missed her every day. ORTIZ, ADAM PAUL Our beloved son, brother and father Adam Paul Ortiz recently passed away surrounded by friends and family. He was born Nov. 26, 1978 and passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015. He is survived by his daughter Jamison, the love and light of his life; parents Tony and Guadalupita Ortiz; his brother John and wife Kirsten and nieces Mikayla, Hannah, and Emma; his very dear friends Andrea Jasen and Jonah Miller; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Adam was well loved by all who knew him and was known for his wit and humor and his ability to make everyone feel special. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1997 and earned a bachelor's degree from the Anderson School of Business at the University of New Mexico in 2003. RONQUILLO, JOHN MICHAEL Age 58, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on January 29th, 2015. He is survived by his father, John N. Ronquillo; three sisters, Linda Bluestein (Rick), Anna Hasler (Doug), Paula Ronquillo Frederick (Smith); and one brother, Mark Ronquillo (Jeanne). John was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Betty C. Ronquillo. John had a wonderful caring and giving spirit. SANTILLANES, MAURICE E. went to his permanent home on February 3, 2015 surrounded by his family. He is survived by wife Nancy Santillanes; sons Kenneth Santillanes, wife Hope, Kevin Santillanes, fiancee Lisa; daughter Kristy Gould and husband Eddie; his grandchildren Vanessa Santillanes, Jaymin Edward Maurice Gould, Ty Gould and Dani Gould; brother Billy Santillanes, wife Ellen; sister Vicky Armijo; brothers Joseph and Orlando Santillanes and sister-in-law Arlene Santillanes; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Luis and Rosa Santillanes, siblings Louie Santillanes and Lala Roybal. To say he was an avid Lobo fan would be an understatement. He retired from the City of Albuquerque and served our country in the United States Army. He loved fishing and gardening. He loved taking his kids to the Lobo games and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. TRENT, LORRAINE J. 1922-2015 Lorraine J. Trent, age 93, born on February 21, 1922 and passed away on January 29, 2015. She was born in Chicago, IL to Leslie Sr. and Bertha Watkins Trent. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Effie Hill and Bernice Sowa; brothers, Cpl. Nelson Trent, 1st Ranger Division, WWII 1943 and Sgt. Leslie R. Trent Jr., M.P. Vietnam 1979. Lorraine leaves behind her niece, Jeanne L. Kooi (John); great-niece, Julie Kooi-Schackle (Paul) their children, Lindsey and Justin; great-nephew, John L. Kooi (Duke Jr.); dear friend, Mary A. Kooi (Len deceased) their daughter, Gabrielle; a life-long friend for over 50 years, Alice Fisher who preceded her in death; Margaret "Peg" Murrihy and Tom both deceased, their children Tom (Colleen) and Alish (Tom) Deedre, Brandon deceased and Brian (Katrina) with many nieces and nephews; dear friend to Marcia Smith all from the Chicago, IL area. Lorraine graduated from Kelly High School. After attending Wilson College she was awarded a scholarship to The American College of Education. She was also a member of the Phi Delta Sorority and graduated second in her class. She then started working for the Chicago Park District for 38 years. Lorraine started out as a physical education instructor at Garfield Park, working her way up to Park Superior at Chaplin Park and was eventually promoted to Physical Activities Area 8. She also cooked at Dvorak Portage, and Loyola Parks in Chicago. Lorraine worked many years at Notre Dame High School. She loved her teaching career. Lorraine was firm but fair, she touched many lives and left a wonderful legacy. She danced professionally with Ernie Young's at the state fair, and also at the Chicago Theatre. After retirement Lorraine moved to Belen, New Mexico (Rio Communities). She then became very active and devoted to the Sheriff's Office as a volunteer. She joined Tierra del Sol Community Center where she was a member of the Golf Association and was a past President. She enjoyed two holes in one during her year on the course. She was active in many clubs and organizations. She spent twenty eight years at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She became a Eucharist Minister serving the parishioners who were home bound. Lorraine was a "Parish Marshall" in 2001 in the church fiesta. Lorraine was a frequent traveler. One of her favorite trips was when she and Alice took a "seven week" freighter trip, a three week African Safari, a trip to China, Tahiti, and many trips to Caneel Bay, Virgin Islands. As well as many cruises throughout Europe. After leaving her home in Belen she moved in 2005 to Brookdale Place Retirement Home in Albuquerque. She became very active there as a secretary and was on the welcoming committee. She always referred to Brookdale as her home away from home where she also enjoined the Holy Ghost Parish. A very special thank you to Father David Gallegos, OSM and Father and Pastor Tom Greaney for all their guidance. Also a special thank you to Father Stephen Schultz and all deacons for their leadership and sincere help. A sincere thank you to Father Mark Schultz's eagerness to help everyone from the Holy Ghost Parish. At last a special thank you to my loving family, my wonderful neighbors and friends, Bertha Lightfoot, LaVonne Alfott and ever so many more. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Friday, February 6th beginning with a Visitation at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. ULIBARRI, MANUEL A Rosary for Manuel Ulibarri, 88, of Santa Rosa will be held at 9am on Saturday, February 7, 2015 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Manuel Secundino Ulibarri was born August 9, 1926 in Colonias, NM to the home of Manuel Ulibarri Sr. and the former Beneranda Romo. He passed away at his home Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Manuel attended school in Colonias and Santa Rosa where he graduated from High School. He married Viola Martinez in Santa Rosa. Manuel worked in law enforcement with the Santa Rosa City Police Department and the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Department where he served as Sheriff. He later worked as a custodian for the Santa Rosa Public Schools and following his retirement he worked at McDonalds. He volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at the Santa Rosa Elementary School for seven years. He spent his time reading his bible, and meeting with his friends and family for coffee. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Viola Ulibarri in 2002, three sons Anthony Martinez, Timmy Ulibarri, and Jerry Ulibarri, a grandson Leroy Ulibarri Jr., three sisters Carlota Elliott, Lucille Padilla, and an infant sister. He is survived by nine daughters and four sons, Corrine Chavez and husband Erminio of Santa Rosa, Sylvia Gutierrez and husband Jerry of Albuquerque, Yolanda Acosta and husband Diego of Amarillo, TX, Margaret Rodriguez and husband Alfonso of Clovis, Angela Martinez and husband Ted of Santa Rosa, Shirley Sena and husband Faustin of Edgewood, Violet Abeyta and husband Herman of Santa Rosa, Joanne Gutierrez and husband Gene of San Diego, CA, Eileen Porras and husband Arturo of El Paso, TX, sons Thomas Ulibarri and wife Frances of Santa Rosa, Leroy Ulibarri and wife Yolanda of Albuquerque, Peter Ulibarri and wife Eileen of Rio Rancho, and Matthew Ulibarri and wife Emily of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are four siblings, a sister Josephine Quintana and husband Albert of Roswell, three brothers Orlando Ulibarri of Clovis, Alex Ulibarri and wife Josie of Santa Rosa, George Ulibarri and wife Josie of Colonias, his wife's brothers Thomas Martinez and wife Candie of Colorado Springs, CO, Horacio Martinez and wife Diana of Santa Fe, Pat Martinez and wife Renida of Albuquerque, along with a host of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
