BOYLE, VERA I. CHIODINI Vera Chiodini Boyle, 94, died naturally and peacefully on January 21, 2015. Her children were with her during her final days. Vera was born on June 7, 1920 in Eveleth, MN. to Italian immigrants, Primo and Giacomina Chiodini. Being a first generation American, she was very proud of hers and her parents' heritage. She believed that immigrants such as her parents were the cream of the crop and typical of the many immigrants over the generations who have enriched this country in so many ways. On June 14, 1943 she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Boyle who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2011. Before her marriage, Vera attended the University of Minnesota where she was training to become a nurse. After living in Minneapolis and St. Paul MN, for many years, where she and Robert raised their family, they moved to Bemidji, MN. Some years later, they purchased a home in Sun City West, AZ spending all of their winters there until 2008 when they became residents of the Manzano del Sol retirement community in Albuquerque, NM. Vera had many artistic interests and talents including drawing, painting, and ceramics. Her competitive spirit made her a formidable opponent when it came to playing Scrabble and various card games. She was an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress, and a great cook. Vera was never daunted by new challenges in her many interests. Her keen sense of humor and many talents were appreciated by family and friends. She was an active citizen and belonged to The League of Women Voters while living in St. Paul. During their time in Bemidji, she and Robert were instrumental through their advocacy in getting a railroad overpass built in order to provide emergency vehicle access to the small enclave of lakeside homes where they lived.Vera's true calling in life was being a wonderful mother to her four devoted and beloved children who survive her: Patricia Gotch (Dan) Pacific Grove, CA, Katherine Wade, Albuquerque, NM, Michael Boyle (Hon) Chaing Mai, Thailand/St.Paul, MN, and Christopher Boyle, Albuquerque, NM. She also is survived by her grandchildren Timothy Gotch (Lisa), San Francisco, CA, Katherine Gotch Jordan (Kyle), Portland OR, one great grandchild, Sage Fuentes, and nieces and nephews. Vera was the last surviving of four siblings and was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo Chiodini and Anthony Chiodini, and her sister, Helene Sherman. Vera also was preceded in death in 2011 by hers and Robert's devoted son-in-law, Bryan Baumeister. The family thanks the staff of Manzano del Sol Health Care Center who have lovingly cared for Vera for the past few years and who truly appreciated her uniqueness and individuality. They also wish to thank the caregivers of Ambercare Hospice who assisted Vera and the family at the end of her life. Cremation has taken place and hers and Robert's remains will be taken to Minnesota by their children at a later date to be interred in the Boyle Family plot in the Eveleth Cemetery. A memorial and celebration honoring Vera's life will be on Thursday, January 29 at 10:00AM in the Manzano del Sol Chapel at 5201 Roma Av. NE Albuquerque, NM. A reception will follow. SALAS, FRANCES G. Frances (Galindo) Salas, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at her home on January 21, 2015 after a yearlong illness. She was born on October 31, 1934 to Lucille (Galindo) Perez in El Paso Texas. Frances was raised in Gallup, New Mexico by her loving grandparents, Francisca (Quiniones) and Braulio Galindo. Frances graduated in 1953 from Cathedral High School in Gallup where she participated in many extracurricular activities and was recognized as senior Homecoming Queen. After high school, she went to work at the Gallup Sand & Gravel. On July 3rd 1960, she married the love of her life, Celestino Salas and raised a family of four children. In 1966 the family moved to Albuquerque where they began the city life. Frances worked for the US Government at the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 34 years. While at the BIA, she became the office manager in the Engineering Dept that oversaw the critically acclaimed Navajo Irrigation Project near Farmington. She also became the Hispanic-coordinator for the BIA for many years and grew to love traveling. She made many treasured and lifelong friends at the BIA. After retirement, she continued to work part time at the former Sunwest Bank, the New Mexico State Fair, and as a poll worker for the Election Board. They also made numerous trips to Mexico to visit friends, family and explore the many sights. During her retirement years she took in her elderly aunt Alice G. During that time they enjoyed the opportunity to travel to Europe with many family members visiting countries such as England, Spain, Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic. In addition to Europe she traveled to Nicaragua for a cousins wedding and a long awaited visit to Hawaii with a lifelong friend. There she enjoyed a helicopter ride of her life; over Mauna Loa one of the many spectacular volcanoes. Frances was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Albuquerque. All four of her children attended grade school at Fatima, and continued on to St. Pius X. Frances took on the matriarch role of her family after the death of her Grandma and mother Lucy. Her home was always an open active place with family and friends always stopping by to visit and if necessary, to live. She made sure her visitors never left her home without eating some of her famous red chile enchiladas. Frances' true happiness lied with her treasured grand children, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. All who knew Frances for her devotion to family, her Catholic faith, wonderful smile, loyalty and honesty will miss her dearly.
