ACREE, JAMES PERRY James "Jim" Acree, 75, of Albuquerque, N.M., the youngest son of the late Elwood and Sadie Acree, passed away at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice in Albuquerque on Feb. 2, 2014. Jim is survived by his wife Gloria of 41 years; sons Daniel, Nathan and Anthony (wife Kaylyn, grandsons Andrew and Ryan, and soon-to-be-born grandson Colin); and two brothers Elwood Acree and Edward Acree. He moved to Albuquerque from Covington, KY with his family in 1947. After graduating from Valley High School in 1957 he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of New Mexico. Jim served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1964-1966. After returning from Vietnam, he worked more than 40 years for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in 2004 as a budget officer. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and watching sports. He particularly enjoyed watching his sons participate in sports while growing up. The Acree family would like to thank the nurses and other caregivers at Presbyterian Neurology, University of New Mexico Hospital Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice for their compassionate care. In honor of Jim's request, there will be no memorial service or viewing. Cremation will take place and burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

BENAVIDEZ, MARIO MIGUEL Mario M. Benavidez went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 30, 2014. He had a brilliant mind and the golden and courageous heart of a LION. He loved with passion and was loved passionately by his wife, three beautiful daughters, and everyone who was blessed with his one-of-a-kind way of establishing deep relationships with others. He spent endless afternoons at the park with his three daughters and cooked breakfast for them daily. He used his 2004 UNM law degree to counsel many friends and family and answered his calling to strengthen the struggling and underserved through his service on the YDI Board of Directors, as an advocate for access to justice, working for NM Voices for Children, in running a youth detention center mentorship program, as an actor in many local theater productions, and in being such a revered friend to so many. He was a hero to his daughters, his wife, his twin brother Javier (who he consoled on the first day of preschool by reading to), his Mom, and the countless lives in which he had a deeply positive impact. He was predeceased by his Dad Eddie Benavidez, dear cousin Hector DeLeon, sister-in-law Maria Elena, several uncles, and cousins. He is survived by soul-mate wife Sylvia; three treasured daughters Naylani (4), Giada (2), and Milania (1); his twin brother Javier with whom he had a sacred relationship; his unconditionally loving Mama Margaret; his adoring in-laws Silvie and Bella; his respecting brother in-law Silvie, his revering sisters-in law Krystal and Ann Marie, his admiring niece Annalysa (11), his name-sake nephew Mario (6), his loving baby nephew Elias (1), and many cherished friends and family members too numerous to list but not forgotten. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, Feb. 8th at 9:00AM at Victory Outreach Church of Albuquerque, 1404 Lead Ave SE, ABQ, NM 87106. He will be laid to rest at 11:30AM at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, ABQ, NM 87102, followed by a gathering for all friends and family at 12:30PM at the Wool Warehouse in Downtown Albuquerque, 516 1st Street. Mario genuinely loved others, is now in the loving arms of Jesus, and will be surrounding us all, especially his three beloved little ones, with his remarkable strength going forward. CORDOVA, ISMAEL "SMILEY" 1935 - 2014 Ismael "Smiley" Cordova, age 78, a resident of Belen, NM passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. He was born on May 17, 1935 in Los Chavez. Smiley owned and operated Belen Consumer Finance for 25 years. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. He and Kandy served together at the church up until his illness. He was an original cast member of Los Pastores de Belen for more than 30 years. Smiley proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and the Valencia County Sheriff's Posse. Smiley took pleasure in talking to folks and discussing their ancestry. He enjoyed family reunions and talking about the good old days in Los Chavez. He loved his horses, classic cars, classic movies, and classic music - most notably, Gene Autry. Most of all he loved helping those in need and he loved his family and brought much love, loyalty, and generosity to their lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cristobal and Placida Gabaldon Cordova. Smiley is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Kandy Cordova; daughters, Pamela and Sharon Cordova; sons, Christopher and Joe Cordova; daughter-in-law, Bernadine Cordova; grandchildren, Christopher Cordova Jr., Marysa Cordova, Maria Cordova Brown, Noah Cordova; sister, Nila Romero, and beloved nieces, nephews, and good friends. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a Viewing on Sunday, February 9, at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A Final Viewing will be held on Monday, February 10, at 9:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. ERBE, NANCY D. December 24, 1932 - January 15, 2014. Nancy Erbe was taken to be with her Lord and her family, on January 15, 2014. Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, William Erbe, and her parents, Welcome and Marion Erbe. She is survived by her sister, Maryann Roope; nieces Nancy Roope, Janine Erbe Goff, Meg Greve, and nephew, Tom Roope. Nancy is also survived by life-long friends Peggy Piper and Ruth Cook. Nancy was born at Women's Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in its second graduating class. Nancy worked, for over 30 years, for Albuquerque National Bank in its different incarnations. The last years of her career were spent as its customer service director, a job she loved as it allowed her to help others. Nancy had numerous volunteer jobs including work with the ABWA, First United Methodist Church and President of the Presbyterian Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. Nancy loved to travel and covered much of the United States and many European countries. She loved Lobo basketball and was a long-time season ticket holder. She would wear her red sweater and cheer her team no matter the outcome. Nancy loved her family and she was the family photographer and biographer. Her memory of family events was amazing and she is responsible for the majority of our family's photos. Nancy was one of those people who would do anything for you if you were in need. Her family will miss her dearly but her spirit will live on in memories of her kindness and her unfailing loyalty to her family and friends. GUTH, VIRGINIA MAE Age 95, a resident of La Vida Llena since 1992, passed away on January 29, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Hallet Guth. Virginia is survived by her son, John Guth of Albuquerque; a grandson, Jason Guth and companion Corina of Phoenix, granddaughter, Sarah Klenner and husband Jeff of Detroit, six great-grandchildren, and two great great-granddaughters. Virginia was born in East Fogelsville, PA to Alvin Smith and Sadie Herber. She spent her married life in Virginia, New York, Kansas, Maryland, Oklahoma, Florida, and California before retiring to New Mexico in 1984. Virginia was an accomplished musician, playing the accordion, piano and organ professionally in the 1930s. Her big loves in life were dancing and music. She was most noted for lighting up the room with her smile and just being very social to anyone she came in contact with. A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Carter Hall at the La Vida Llena Retirement Community, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE. HART, JOHN MCKINLEY a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. A loving, dedicated husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann; sons, Charles, Lee, and John, all living in Albuquerque; and nephews, Roger and Rodney. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward James Hart; his wife, Jean; and son, Robert. John was born in Albuquerque on July 6, 1924. He attended Albuquerque High School, Baylor University, and University of New Mexico receiving degrees in Business Management, and Health and Physical Education. He was a letterman football player at all three schools while also enjoying competitive softball and skiing with his family. He was an avid Lobo football/basketball fan and contributor, regularly attending their games. John proudly served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy for three years of active duty and 20 years of reserve service. After enjoying work for 39 years at Sandia National Laboratories, he retired as Manager of their Purchasing Department. John was a gentle, kind, and loving person who left an indelible impression on all whom he touched. He will be truly missed. HAYES, H. MICHAEL (MIKE) H. Michael Hayes (Mike) of Westminster, a retired University of Colorado at Denver professor and former General Electric manager, died February 4, 2014. He was 87 years old. Mike was born March 11, 1926, in Los Angeles. On August 3, 1946, he married Neola J. Becker, with whom he shared his life for 52 years. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his son, Stephen E. Hayes, and granddaughter, Alison L. Hayes. Mike is survived by his fiancee Darlee Whiting; sister Kathleen Newcomb; son Dick Hayes; grandchildren Douglas Hayes, Lindsey Daly (Trevor), and Gregory Hayes; four great-grandchildren Devon and Kaylie Hayes, Evan and Clare Daly. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy after completing his university studies in the V-12 program. He was commissioned and served as an assistant navigator and landing craft boatman on a troop transport ship bringing military personnel home at the conclusion of World War II. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1945 and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1977. For twenty seven years, he worked for General Electric in industrial sales and sales management and as Manager of Executive Education. In 1983, he joined the University of Colorado at Denver as Professor of Marketing and Strategic Management, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1996. From 1988 to 1989, he was a visiting professor at IMEDE in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1994 and 1997, he was a visiting professor at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. He authored and coauthored a number of articles, cases, and a text book, "Business Marketing: A Global Perspective." Mike was active in numerous professional organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Management, and the National Association of Purchasing Management. He was a longtime Rotarian, having served as President of both the Westminster Rotary Club and the Westminster 7:10 Rotary Club. He also served as the District Governor for District 5450 in 2002/2003. Mike loved traveling, the Colorado Symphony, spending time with his family and friends, and philosophizing on life and politics. He will be missed dearly. HUMPHREY, GEORGE WILLIS age 85, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2014. He was born on November 16, 1928 in Georgetown Ohio. His family moved to New Mexico in 1944. On March 3, 1950 he married Anna Joyce Rigsby and was preceded by her death after 58 years of marriage. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by three sons, Gary Humphrey, Randy Humphrey, Rick Humphrey; one daughter Janet Bittle; five grandchildren, Alissa Macias, Jessica Humphrey, Daniel Humphrey, Rachel Humphrey, Aubriana Richardson; and one great- grandchild, Olivia Sexton. He leaves behind a legacy of humble kindness, always doing the right thing. Our hearts are heavy but out spirits are lifted knowing that he lived a long full life and his influence will forever be in our memories. JONES, SHARON LYNN lost her short but hard fought battle with cancer. She peacefully transitioned at home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mary Evelyn Siegrist; her brothers, LaVern and Don Siegrist. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 42 years, Adrian K. Jones; daughter Angela (David) Sanchez; sons, Jason and Anthony (Julie) Jones; grandchildren, Leilani and Makai Sanchez, and Jayden Jones; sisters, Pat Korniak and Marilyn Black; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. KREIDER, CAROL FAY Carol Fay Kreider, 53, of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 4, 2014. She was born to Clarence and Isabell Amen, Oct. 3, 1960, in Sterling, CO. Carol graduated from Merino High School in 1979 and went on to become a successful saleswoman, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Carol loved helping others, ministering and sharing her testimony. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Amen. Carol is survived by her mother Isabell Amen of Sterling, CO; husband Abe Kreider of Albuquerque, NM; son Erik County and expectant wife Laura of Houston, TX; daughter Natasha Kreider of Albuquerque, NM; and step-daughter Heather Hull, her husband Chad and two sons Jakob and Collin of Jamestown, TN. Carol is also survived by one brother and three sisters: Kayle Amen of Borrego Springs, CA; Dale Amen of Arriba, CO; Paula Albrandt of Merino, CO; Brenda Lauer of Atwood, CO; their spouses and children. LOVVORN, GERALD (JERRY) Died on Tuesday, January 22, 2014. Born on September 8, 1945 in Newark, NJ where he graduated from Barringer High School. He lived in Alaska, California and New York before settling in Albuquerque where he worked in auto repair at Morris and Comanche. He served in the US Army in the 1960s including a tour of duty in Germany. He leaves behind a brother, Robert of Canon City, Colorado; his sister, Janice Webster of Denver, Colorado; cousins Bunny and Pam of New Jersey; and his beloved dogs. Arrangements are private. MCLAUGHLIN, HOMER CHARLES JR. Homer Charles McLaughlin Jr. passed away at noon on February 1, 2014. He was born on August 2, 1927 in Duncan, OK, to Homer Charles McLaughlin & Maurine Kendrick McLaughlin. Charles attended Duncan schools until he went to Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore in the ninth grade for high school and junior college, graduating in 1945. He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and earned B.S. and M.S. degrees with a major in organic chemistry. Charles served in the Army after he graduated, and after his term, he started work in the Research Lab at Halliburton. After retiring from Halliburton as a Senior Research Chemist, he attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma and received a B.S. with a major in business. For several years, he had a private practice as a licensed CPA, doing taxes and audits. Charles continued in the Army Reserve, reaching the rank of Colonel, and retired in 1987. His many professional affiliations included member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Chemical Society, American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, and Santa Fe Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars. Charles was on the board of Santa Fe Pro Musica for over five years. He and Johnanna were patrons of the Santa Fe Opera for over 25 years. They were members of the Church of the Holy Faith, where Charles served as Treasurer and Senior Warden. He and his wife Johnanna bought a summer home in Santa Fe after Charles' retirement and eventually moved here full time. Charles loved music (especially opera), astronomy, and chess. He spent most of his life playing chess, and he taught it to high school students in Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Johnanna Jones McLaughlin of Santa Fe, and his daughter, Melody Maurine McLaughlin of Richardson, Texas. A memorial service is planned for April or May in Duncan, Oklahoma. More information will be available at a later date. ORONA, WILLIE Age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 with his family by his side. He is survived by four siblings, Valentin Orona and wife, Mary Jane of Fresno, CA, Lillian Romero of Tome, NM, Pat Montes and husband, Ralph of Los Lunas, NM and Dorothy Godley and husband John of Springfield, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Modesta Orona; brother, Oswald Orona; brother-in-law, Juan Romero; nieces, Theresa Romero and Carol Armendariz; and nephew, David Orona. Willie served honorably as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Reserve during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion, The Cattle Growers Association, and The Wool Growers Association. He retired from the Railroad after 25 years of service. Willie was a prominent rancher and farmer in Bingham, NM and Las Nutrias, NM where he earned the title of Chile King by his family. He ran his business up until the day he went to be with the Lord. He was a very generous and giving brother, uncle and friend. A Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 8, 2014, 9:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Parish, 7 Church Loop, Tome, NM. PURDY, JAMES G. Born in Roanoke, VA in 1934, into a family of eight boys and 2 girls who in 1949 moved to Albuquerque after their father died. Jerry attended St. Mary high school and received a degree from the University of Albuquerque in Business Management. After serving in the army during the Korean War period, he joined ACF Industries, where he began as a general factory employee and after ten years worked his way up to Senior Quality engineer. Jerry then transferred to Dow Chemical Co. He joined GE Aircraft Engine Co. in 1968 as a quality supervisor and rose to the position of Manager of Manufacturing. He spent 20 years with GE at the Albuquerque plant, then located at Woodward Road, before moving to Puerto Rico with GE Lighting Division as General Manager of Wiring Devices. He managed 2 manufacturing factories in Puerto Rico and later built another factory in the Dominican Republic. He was given an award by the Dominican Republic for securing and donating a fire truck to the town of Haina where most of his factory workers lived. He was also responsible for the later donation of x-ray equipment from GE to a major hospital in Santo Domingo. After seven years in Ponce, Puerto Rico he decided to retire back in Albuquerque with his wife Esther and to be close to their six children and 12 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: parents John Thomas Purdy, Christine A. McCarty Purdy, brothers George, Joe, Pat, Walter, and sister Mary Jane Purdy. Jerry is survived by: wife Esther of 54 years; Darlene Salazar and husband Mark, Di-ana Rael and husband Francis D., Rudy Purdy, Denise Aiken and husband Bruce, James T. Purdy, Doreen Spahr and husband Russell; 12 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and beloved pet Goldie. RAY, CHARLES W. Age 91, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014. Chuck is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mercedes Ray; four children: Karl (Kathy) Ray, Keith (Paula) Ray, Klaudia Scott and Kristine (Pete) Sandford; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Kurt Ray and son-in-law, Rick Scott. Chuck was a founding member of Holy Ghost Parish. RITCHIE, JAMES C. Jim Ritchie passed away February 3, 2014, following an illness. He was a beloved and cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, brother, friend and mentor. Jim was born on July 29, 1927, in Lexington, OH. He served two years in the Navy before enrolling at UNM. He earned a business degree from UNM and a law degree from the UNM School of Law. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. While at UNM, he met Margaret Jean "Peggy" Sweeney. They were married for over fifty years before her death in 2004. Jim was a highly respected trial attorney, practicing for over fifty years with the Rodey Law Firm in Albuquerque. He was known for his skill, integrity, honesty and sense of humor. He mentored numerous young lawyers, teaching them not only legal skills, but life skills. Jim loved to golf, fish and cheer on the Lobos, but his true joy came from time spent with and supporting his family. Jim is survived by: his children, Charles (Patricia), Chris (Susan), Carol Ish (Mark), Cathy Reardon (Tim); his 10 grandchildren, Luke (Tarrah), Jacob (Kelli), and Nathan Ritchie; Eric and Scott Ritchie; Travis, Casey and Catie Ish; Kelly and Erin Reardon; five great-grandchildren; his brother William Ritchie (Betty) and sister Carolyn Sue Wilson; many nieces and nephews; and his loving companion Maxine Cowton. A reception celebrating Jim's life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Albuquerque Country Club, 601 Laguna Blvd. SW, Albuquerque, NM. RIVERA, ARTURO R., JR. Age 46, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014. He is survived by daughter, Magdelene E. Rivera of Round Rock, TX; mother, Irma Y. Rivera; father, Arturo R. Rivera, Sr., of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Norma A. Rivera of Albuquerque, NM; brother, David Rivera of Albuquerque, NM; and fiancee, Nadine H. Garcia and her two sons, John Gurule and Jeremy Garcia of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by three nephews, Joseph Rivera, Alex Rivera and Adam Casarez. ROY, MARY N. "MARY DE" Age 73, resided in Albuquerque since 2004, passed away Jan 31, 2014. Mary is survived by her husband Gerard Roy; brother Andrew Defrancesco wife Tanya; brother Guy Defrancesco wife Dorothy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her sister Rosemarie Ruggerio. Mary graduated from East Boston High School, Boston Mass. Mary was a life long student continually taking classes at colleges and vocational schools. Mary's career included working for: U.S. Ministries in Bonn Germany, Victoria Station Inc, Ca., Komastu American Corp, San Francisco Ca, la Petite Boulangerie San Francisco Ca, Christian Bros Winery Napa Ca. Mary held a cosmetology license in California and New Mexico. Mary was an English instructor for Berlitx Language Schools until the time of her death. Mary`s love of the theater arts provided her the opportunity to perform summer stock on the East Coast from Framington to Cape Cod. Mary was a soloist performing at the Fairmont Hotel, St Francis Hotel and the Carnelian Room all of San Francisco, Ca. Mary sang, danced, produced, directed and wrote scripts while living in Northern California. Mary was a member of Cinnabar Theater Petaluma Ca and Novato Community Theater Novato Ca. Past President of Petaluma Historical Library and Museum Petaluma Ca. Mary and her husband retired to New Mexico and immediately immersed them selves in the golfing community. STOUT, MARCELLA (MARCIE) Marcie went to be with the Lord, Jesus while visiting her son in Vinita, OK on January 30, 2014; she was 71. Marcie was born to Everett and Alice Hein on September 25, 1942 in St. Joseph, MI. A gifted nurse, she worked for over 20 years in the Intensive and Coronary Care Units at Lovelace Medical Center and then later at both Presbyterian and UNMH where countless people were blessed by her expertise, but more importantly her kindness, mercy and compassion as she cared for them with the utmost concern for their comfort and dignity. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett Hein and Alice Griffith; her son Gregory Stout and her niece Lisa Hein. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eva and John Wilson of Anchorage, AK, son David Stout of Vinita, OK; brother, Harold Hein of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Thomas McAlister, Seth Wilson and Rachel Wilson of Anchorage, AK, Joseph McAlister of Loveland, CO and Marcus Avallone, Amanda Stout and Hannah Stout of Albuquerque; as well as nine great- grandchildren and three nephews. A service is being held at Heritage Christian Fellowship on Friday February 7, 2014 at 1:30 PM

STURGILL, SUE C. Age 77, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February, 4, 2014. She is survived by her children, Bill Sturgill and wife, Lori, Sandi Luce and husband, Randy, and Laurel Rooks and husband, Paul. She was a grandmother to Paul, April, Brandi, Heather, Samantha, Christopher, Ryan, Stephen, Patrick, Aaron, Alex, Caleb, Cassandra, Haley, Laine, Jeffrey, Corrie, Aidan, and Addison. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, as well as many other loving family members and friends.
