SANCHEZ, JACOBO III "JAKE" What can we say about our father and his life that transcends time? We can say that Jacobo "Jake" Sanchez III, 93, of Corrales, left us for his final adventure into eternity on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Jake was born on September 19, 1919 in Corrales, NM. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jacobo Benigno (Benino) Sanchez, Sr.; paternal grandmother, Albinita (Montoya) Sanchez; father, Jacobo Sanchez Jr.; mother, Josefita (Flores) Sanchez; brothers, Benjamin, Clovis, David (Gomez); sisters, Sara Trujillo, Perfilia Martinez, Albina Rivera, and Viola (Fabiola) Sanchez. He is survived by his wife, Rosa (Duran) Sanchez; children, Romeo Sr. and wife Margaret, Mary Carmody, David Sr. and wife Elizabeth, Jacob IV and wife Amy; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. We can tell you that Jake grew up on the historic family estate in Corrales, one of the first 10 families that settled here by 1790, for which Sanchez Road is named today. The surname Sanchez dates to about 1158 AD in the Spanish Kingdom of Navarra. Unlike his brothers and sisters that mostly stayed in Corrales, as a young man Jake was more like his venturesome ancestors that came to the New World. Jake left Corrales and went to work for the Civilian Conversation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression. In the CCC Jake learned new skills that ultimately took him to work for Southern Union Gas Company (SUGC), where he retired in 1981 as Foreman, Master Welder and Certified Instructor after 34 years. After retiring from SUGC, Jake worked 11 more years as Foreman for his son, David Sr.'s Green Valley Tree Service. We can tell you that Jake came from a long line of oral tradition story-tellers and his mind remained sharp his entire life. Historians would regularly visit Jake and ask him to recall details of earlier events and to research other families' genealogies. If you visited Jake, you were not leaving without him getting a laugh from you and a lightened heart. Jake would always say, "Do you know how I stay alive? I keep moving. And I exercise everyday." In this way he was generous to a fault. We can also tell you that Jake was not a perfect man. For some his love came easy, for others it came hard. He could be stubborn, he had his pride, he had his purpose, he had his beliefs, but he always tried to reach higher and to understand what God wanted of him. His life is an example to all in what it means to give and to help others, even in some small way everyday. We can lastly tell you that while Jake is gone, his greatest legacy is that traces of him will long live on in the sweet hearts, friendships and memories of others he loved and who loved him. In this way he remains close by, we see his smile, hear his laugh, he listens to us, we remember him. The family wishes to especially thank the staff, caregivers and hospice of the Rio Rancho Care and Rehabilitation Center for their gracious and supportive care of Jake and our family. Your kindness was appreciated and not taken for granted. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, with the Memorial Service following at 7:30 pm, Friday, June 21, 2013 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. To view information or leave a condolence please visit www.danielsfuneral.com Daniels Family Funeral Services 4310 Sara Road SE Rio Rancho, NM 87124 505-892-9920
