EVANKO -- WILLIAM "BILL" Age 90, passed away in Albuquerque on Friday, February 3, 2012. We celebrate the good and long life of our father, William Evanko, born March 29, 1921, the second son of poor Ukrainian immigrants who came to America to give their children a better life. Our father lived outside of Philadelphia, PA during the Great Depression. He was a celebrated World War II veteran. We still have the bronze star and silver star that he was awarded for the bravery he exhibited during that war. He lost his only brother, our uncle Al (Alexander Evanko) in that war. Following the war our father went to the University of New Mexico and earned his business and accounting degree. It was during that time that he met our beautiful mother, Margaret Ann Boesen. They married in 1951 and made Albuquerque their home. Eight children are the fruits of their love: Tony, Mike, LeeAnne, Mark, Teresa, Greg, Steve and Eric. We are now six, having lost Mike in 1967 and Eric "Buzz" in 2002. Bill was a devoted husband who cared for Margaret unceasingly during her struggle with lung cancer and then Alzheimer's disease that finally took her in 2003. Until he could no longer speak, he told us how much he missed her. Death parted them and now death reunites them. Our father was the business manager at Richardson Ford Sales for 30 years, retiring only to take care of our mother. He loved his work and the friends he made there. He is still honored and admired by the employees at that establishment. His honesty, integrity and hard work live on there. His strong work ethic was passed along to all of his children. Bill loved and enjoyed his family, his work, and his gardening, especially growing tomatoes from seed and sharing tomatoes and tomato plants with his friends and neighbors. Bill is survived by Tony Evanko, LeeAnne Smith and her husband Jim and their two daughters, Alie Smith and Lauren Smith Gimness and her husband Asher Gimness, Mark Evanko, Teresa Evanko Bilello and her husband Joe Bilello and their two daughters, Zoe and Anna Bilello, Greg Evanko, Steve Evanko and his wife Lin. A rosary will be held at French - Wyoming Chapel on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Annunciation Church, 2532 Vermont St NE. The family would like to thank those who provided kindness and compassion and tender loving care in the last years of our father's life: Dr. James Houle, Lovelace, Elite Senior Care and its staff, Dr. Suzanne Pinon, Unlimited Care and its staff, and Hospice De La Luz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to United Way of Central New Mexico.
