AGUILAR -- MARY NELL Our beloved mom was surrounded by her loving family when she was called home peacefully to our Heavenly Father on August 6, 2012. Mary was born in Guadalupita, New Mexico. Despite her illnesses she maintained her caring ways. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother who always thought of her family first. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carlos R. Aguilar. Mary is survived by her ten children, Flora Maturino and husband John, Charlene Chavez and husband Sam, Joe Aguilar and wife Judy, Thomas Aguilar, Robert Aguilar, Thelma Ortiz and husband Pat, Jeanette Sanmann and husband Bob, Laura Aguilar and fiance Fred Silva, Edward Aguilar and wife Sandra, Ronald Aguilar and Julie; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous extended family and friends. A Visitation will take place at Evangel Christian Center, 4501 Montgomery Blvd NE on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 9:45 am to 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Sam Chavez III, Ric Chavez, John Maturino Jr., Matthew Mautrino, Charlee Aguilar, Jarrad Ortiz, Jesse Aguilar and Santiago Aguilar. BLANCHARD -- LYLE DWAYNE was born December 14, 1929, Manhattan, Kansas to Clarence and Grace Evers Blanchard. In 1947 he graduated from Manhattan High School and was co-captain of the football team. Lyle joined the U.S. Navy in 1949 and served on two aircraft carriers during the Korean War. After his discharge, he enrolled at Kansas State University, graduating in 1957 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He then worked for Phillips Petroleum in Grants, NM. In 1959 he moved to Florida and there he met June Kucher Blanchard. They married at All Saints Episcopal Church, in Lakeland, FL on June 23, 1960. Lyle and June celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010 with family and friends. Among the projects he worked on were those in Anchorage, AK; Stavanger, Norway; and Santa Barbara and San Francisco, CA. Lyle and his family moved back to Grants, NM in 1977 where they lived for three years. He retired while in Bartlesville, OK and he and June returned to New Mexico and settled in Albuquerque in 1989. He enjoyed golf, scoring two holes-in-one, and also skiing. He was an active member of St. Mark's on the Mesa for many years and also a charter member of Christ the King Anglican Church. In addition, he was a dedicated volunteer of Presbyterian Hospital for 20 years. He also volunteered at St. Martin's Men's Day Shelter. He is survived by his wife June; two sons, William and wife Michelle, James and wife Diana; grandson Daniel; brother, David; and several cousins. BORNER -- DOLORES L. Age 75, a resident of Santa Fe, NM, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012. She was born on September 9, 1936 to Benny Bernal and Emma Chavez. Dolores was a very loving, caring, giving person and enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dolores will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her. Dolores was preceded in death by her father, Benny Bernal and is survived by her mother, Emma Chavez, sons, Gerald Grimley and wife Cheryl, Robert Borner and wife Unmesha; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister Diane Gonzales; brother Robert Bernal and wife Dorothy; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. CHAVEZ -- LAURA "Nanny Noonie" to her family, was born on September 7, 1924 in the Village of Corrales, NM and went to be with our Lord August 4, 2012. Laura was a lifelong resident of Corrales. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Cook, widowed; her brothers and sisters, Augustine Chavez and wife Annie, Gusto Chavez and wife Nancy Greer, Agnes Hester, Isabel Wilder, Rita Baldonado, Martha Lucero and husband Amadeo; daughter-in-law and caretaker, Patricia Cook, wife of Carey Cook; grandchildren, Charlie Cook, Karen Rael, Kenneth and Nicole Cook, David and Michele Cook, Michael and Angela Cook, Adam and Heather Wright; her many great-grandchildren. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Rosita Chavez; her beloved son, Charles Carey Cook; sister, Rosita Silva; brother, Salomon Chavez. Laura was a successful career woman, working in the medical industry as a Registered Nurse for over 51 years until her retirement. "Nannie" will be fondly remembered as a loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She provided a special place in Corrales for all her family to gather and spend endless summers enjoying her company in the yard. She will be dearly missed. CRISWELL -- GLENN R. Passed away on August 6, 2012 at Manzano Del Sol Health Care Center. He was born in Marlin, TX on December 24, 1918 to Thomas Turner Criswell and Mary Amelia McKinley Criswell. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lena; two daughters, Cathy Criswell Harper of Albuquerque and Bonnie Criswell Mares of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Richard Matthew Harper of Albuquerque, Laura Ashley Mares and Kimberly Paige Mares of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by two brothers, Ray Barton Criswell (and wife Gerry) of Bryan, TX, Thomas McKinley Criswell, Sr. of Marlin, TX and sister-in-law, Winifred McKinley Criswell of Hillsboro, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Criswell in 2004; and brothers, J. C. Criswell of Grand Prairie, TX and Travis Turner Criswell of Temple, TX; and a sister, Amelia Myrtlene Criswell Tate of Marlin, TX. He was a graduate of Marlin High School, attended the University of Texas at Austin and was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY with a degree in Marine Engineering. He held many jobs growing up in Marlin, including delivering newspapers while on horseback and playing in a dance band. He often told the family it would have paid for the price of a hamburger as the group traveled from small town to small town. He worked at the old Majestic Hotel in Marlin, earning money which would help to take him to the University of Texas. He played drums in the University band. And just at the beginning of the war, he found jobs in Orange, TX at the Shipyards. He worked in the Panama Canal in an engineering job before joining the Merchant Marines. There his travels began crossing many waters back and forth on a tug boat delivering supplies to many countries for the war effort. He was in Liverpool, England, Australia, Canada, Bora Bora, Fuji Islands, Singapore, and Japan. During these travels he handwrote a diary, hiding it under his pillow on board ship. He shared it with no one until after the war. His family now has it. After the war, he reentered the University of Texas at Austin, and then moved to Houston where he was employed by Fluor Corporation, living a short time in Victoria, TX and back to Houston. From there he and his family moved to Albuquerque where they have resided since 1954. He was employed in Albuquerque at ACF Industries. At the shutdown of the plant, he was employed by GE and from there moved to GTE Lenkurt where he was employed as a Packaging Engineer until his retirement in 1985. He taught his children and grandchildren to have the love of hard work and endurance when things get rough in life. He had great faith. He had been a member of the Baptist church in Marlin, TX but transferred his membership to the Methodist church at Park Place Methodist in Houston and Trinity Methodist in Albuquerque. He has had a long and interesting life. He was a man of integrity. He will be missed. DARR -- RONALD EDWARD passed away August 3rd, 2012 at the age of 77. He graduated from Greenville High School in IL, and with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Orange County College, CA. He married Mary Lou Huyear in 1958 and they lived stateside and overseas, as transferred during his 24 years in the US Air Force. He retired from the Air Force and later from Intel. He and Mary Lou were very active in the UNM Lobo Club raising funds for athletic scholarships and supporting the UNM teams. Ron was preceded in death by Mary Lou. Surviving Ron is daughter, Tracy Darr-Van Reet and her husband, Ed Van Reet, and two grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 10th, 2012 at French -Lomas Chapel. His ashes will be buried at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, in a niche alongside his wife. EVANS -- JOAN "JONI" DOWNES Age 76, of Albuquerque, passed away on August 6, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents and father Eugene Westover; her grandchildren Meghan McBrayer and Cooper Gray. She is survived by her brother John Downes; her children: Chrisann and Scott Gray, Steve and Lisa Evans, and Jeanne Inman; grandchildren: Lorne McBrayer, Morgen McBrayer, Cory Gray, Makenzie Evans, Tara Gray, Nicky Evans, Evan Inman, and Tess Inman; great-grandchildren: Mikayla Whitmore, Adisen McBrayer and Emmalyn McBrayer. She was born in London, England on July 13, 1936 to her parents John Downes Sr. and Edna Jane Palmer Westover. Joni graduated from B.Y.U., U.N.M., and Webster University. She received a Bachelor's in Nursing, a Master's in Counseling and a Master's in Health Education. Joni touched the lives of many veterans and their families during her career as a clinical psychiatric nurse specialist. She retired from the Albuquerque V.A. Hospital in 2000. Joni loved her family and many friends. She loved music and travelling the world. Her positive outlook on life was fabulous and she shared love, peace, and joy with all those she touched. We will all miss her loving smile and laughter. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the caregivers who treated her with care, respect, and dignity. Joan's Life Celebration will begin with a viewing at Reflections on Thursday, August 9th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The funeral will be held in The Chapel at Hotel Albuquerque (800 Rio Grande NW) at noon. GALLEGOS -- DELLA Age 96, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 6, 2012. She was born on September 17, 1915 and was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Sofia Gallegos and brother Manuel (Pete) Gallegos, Jr. She is survived by her son Robert and wife Bernadette Garcia; granddaughter Christine and husband Johnny Herrera; grandson Robert Anthony Garcia; great-grandchildren Johnny, Dayna, Jude and Alyssa Herrera; sister-in-law Rita Gallegos; nieces Phyllis and husband Donald Adams, and Elaine Candelaria; nephew Stephen Gallegos; dear friend Helen Montano, and many relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all that were blessed by her touch. We will always remember her favorite saying "Si Dios quiere" (If God wills). GARRINGER -- YVONNE CHARLENE Age 75, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012. Affectionately known as "purple grandma" by her grandchildren, Yvonne was born August 8, 1936 in Amarillo TX to parents Cecil and Yetta Garringer. She moved to Albuquerque as a child primarily to help her with her asthma, where she remained a lifelong resident. Yvonne loved the outdoors, painting, crafts-making, her dog Boots, and especially country western dancing. She would go two-stepping every chance she could. She loved the color purple, her little blue Ford truck and country music. Yvonne is survived by her son Troy Roerig, and wife Cassie; daughter Jenae Murray and husband Buck Murray; grandchildren Alexis Murray, Noah and Charlee Roerig; sister Julie Keating of Oregon; as well as cousins, nephews and nieces. Yvonne will always be remembered for her love for family, friends, her beautiful smile, her warm and forgiving heart, and her sense of humor. It was Yvonne's wishes to be cremated. Services and interment will be forthcoming.

GONZALES -- SARA It is with great sadness that the family of Sara Gonzales announces her passing after a brief illness, on August 4, 2012, at the age of 67 years. Sara is survived by daughter Felicia Sanchez; son Richard Sanchez and wife Victoria; son Felix Sanchez Jr. and wife Evangeline; and 11 grandchildren. All services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church (300 Mildred Ave NW). Rosary is Friday, August 10th at 6:00 pm. Mass is Saturday, August 11th at 11:30 am. HIGGINBOTHAM -- JAMES ARNOLD JR. died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, in the Vista Care hospice unit at Lovelace Medical Center, Albuquerque, after a long illness. He marked his 90th birthday on April 19, 2012. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant in the anti-aircraft artillery corps. After the war, Jim married a nurse, Frances Taylor, from Russell, KY. They marked their 66th wedding anniversary on May 25th. Jim attended Ohio State University, earning a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering. He worked for the Ford Company's tractor division until his retirement in 1986. By that time, he had become service manager for North America for Ford's Tractor and Implement Division, in its Troy, Mich., headquarters. He and Frances moved to Albuquerque in 1987 to be near two of their daughters, Kathy (Miguel) Diaz and Jacqui (Charles) Cross. They also raised a third daughter, Bonnie (Kirk) Fraser, Wilmore, Ky., and a son, James A. (Janice) Higginbotham III, Brunswick, Maine. Jim is also survived by nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Jo (Jack) Kemp, Milford, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Frances S. Higginbotham; a sister, Rose Giffin, and a brother, Kenneth Higginbotham. Jim was an elder at the Mountainside Church of Christ and was active in a local woodworking group for several years. Friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012 at French Lomas Mortuary. KELLY -- WAYNE Age 91, a resident of Los Ranchos, NM, died Monday, August 6, 2012. At the age of five Wayne's parents moved to Canon City, CO where he graduated from high school. After high school, Wayne entered into the United States Army where he served during WWII as First Sergeant. He settled in New Mexico after the war and started his electrical contracting firm, Kelly Electric, in 1953. Wayne was Past President and Past Governor of the National Electrical Contractors Association and worked closely with the IBEW and the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. He was Past President of the Wally Byam Airstream Club, and a member of the Elks and Shriners. Respected and loved by many, Wayne will be missed by all who knew him. PALER -- PEGGY LOUISE D'ARCY, EdD Age 75, went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2012. She was born November 23, 1936 in Wink, Texas. Peggy grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Highland High School in 1955. After meeting her future husband, Abraham D. Paler, at Inlow Youth Camp where he was a student missionary, from the Philippines, they married on May 27th, 1955. She went to Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas where she received her BS degree in Education and began teaching first grade at Jayton, Texas. They moved to Albuquerque where her husband began his doctorate studies and she taught first grade at Griegos Elementary School. When Abraham received his Doctor of Education degree, they moved to Guam where he was a professor at the University and she taught kindergarten through second grade for the next 30 years. While in Guam, Peggy went to the University of Guam and received her Master of Education degree and served as Associate Professor at the University of Guam as well as The College of St. Joseph at Massin, Philippines. Later she entered the Doctorate program at the University of Southern California and received her Doctorate of Education degree in 1982. After the death of Abraham, she returned to the states where she began teaching at the university level, first at Sul Ross State University at Alpine, Texas and later at her alma mater, Howard Payne University, at Brownwood, Texas. In 1997 she went to Colonia, Yap, Micronesia as a consultant to develop the Head Start program, where she wrote the curriculum to train the teachers and resided until 2004. She is listed in the Who's Who in American Education. Since returning to Albuquerque she lived with a special friend Maxine Turpen and at the Albuquerque Grand Senior living. She was a Past Noble Grand of Triple Link Rebekah lodge of the IOOF in Albuquerque and also a member of the Rebekah Assembly of New Mexico, where she served as a trustee on the Bettye Miller Scholarship Board and a past advisor of Arkisgo Theta Rho Girls' Club in Albuquerque. She is survived by her sisters, Sandi McWatters and Barbara Corfield (Boyd) of Albuquerque; niece, Sherri Villegas (Joe) of Rio Rancho; nephews, Doug McWatters (Lorrie), Ken Corfield, (Crystal) of Albuquerque and Bob Corfield (Jen) of Boise, Idaho; two great-nephews; nine great-nieces; two great-great-nephews, five great-great-nieces and a host of world-wide friends. She was preceded in her death by her parents, T. Earl and Mabel D' Arcy; her husband, Abraham Paler and her nephew, Sean Villegas. SCHILLING -- WILLIAM "BILL" D. Age 63, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, embarked on his next journey to spread his good nature and sense of humor to those in Heaven on Sunday, August 5, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Frances Schilling of Albuquerque; his children, Keith Schilling and wife, Diane of Blacklick, OH, Kelly Taylor and husband, Zane of Phoenix, AZ, Justin Schilling and wife, Jamie of Albuquerque, Stephanie Francis and husband, David of Indianapolis, IN, and Staci Engle of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren, Makayla, Riley, Holden, Talan, Kayleigh, David, Chase, Alexa and Kaela; siblings, Larry Schilling and wife, Sherry of Decorah, IA, Phyllis Carter of Albuquerque, Gloria Thurman of Albuquerque, Carolyn Nunnally and husband, Ken of Albuquerque, and Tim Schilling and wife, Carol of Albuquerque; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Althea Schilling; sister, Rita Sanchez; and brother-in-law, John Sanchez. He was a graduate of Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, class of 1967. Bill honorably served his country in the Army in Vietnam. He enjoyed a long career in heavy equipment sales with Border Machinery, Rust Tractor/Wagner Company and most recently Choice Steel Company. Bill looked forward to starting each day by having coffee with his Dunkin Donuts clan on 4th Street. He touched countless people's lives with his humor and generosity and he leaves behind a legacy of fond memories and laughter. Whether he was Bill, Dad, Papa or Ca Ca, he will always be remembered in our hearts and he will be deeply missed. STEWART -- NORMA JEAN born July 26, 1934, accepted her call to God on July 30, 2012. Born in Denver, Colorado, her family lived in Albuquerque, moved for a short while to Phoenix. AZ, and then returned to finally settle in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jean was a graduate of Highland High School and attended the University of New Mexico majoring in Home Economics. She graduated from UNM in 1956 and began her teaching career at Washington Jr. High. In 1962, she moved to Van Buren Jr. High, then on to Wilson Jr. High. She retired from Albuquerque High School in 1997. Jean taught in all areas of Home Economics, but early childhood care was her real love. At AHS, she taught Early Childhood Development, blending high school students and four year olds together in a preschool setting. Jean supervised several UNM student teachers. She was actively involved in Future Homemakers of America, and often chaperoned students to national FHA conventions. Jean was a Sapphire Sister in Alpha Delta Kappa, where she was an active member for 35 years. Jean was an avid Lobo fan; her favorite sport was men's basketball. She especially loved March Madness Tournaments in Las Vegas. Jean loved to travel and has accompanied her family on trips including road trips around the United States, extended traveling to the Netherlands, Spain, Hawaii, Ireland and England. Jean was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since her high school days and in retirement volunteered weekly in the church office. Other interests included decorating her house for each season; growing flowers, especially roses and devouring chocolate. Her motto was, "Eat dessert first!". Jean is survived by her devoted and loving family: her brother, James Stewart, his wife Barbara; niece Cynthia Gail White, husband Sims, their children Emily and James; nephew Andrew James Stewart, wife Laura, daughter Ava; niece Ginger Ann Zara, husband Brian, children Jacob and Ian; as well as her faithful and loyal companion Toshi, who will remain in Texas with the big dogs. A public memorial service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road, Albuquerque, New Mexico at 4:00pm. Officiating will be Rev. Hal Nilsson. Private interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. TORRES-RODRIGUEZ -- GABRIEL NOEL Age 2, of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord, Monday, August 6, 2012. Gabriel was a loving, curious, intelligent, and strong minded little boy who loved to dance and sing and especially loved to have his picture taken. He was very expressive and was a great imitator of his big brothers. He is survived by father, Giovanni Martel; mother, Nohelia Torres; brothers, Adrian Torres and Giovanni Elijah Martel; grandparents, Amalia Rodriguez, Carlos and Karen Martel; aunts and uncles, Sandra Rodriguez, Alvaro Rodriguez, Maria Sanchez, Siro Rodriguez, and Rosario Marquez. A Rosary will be recited Friday, August 10, at 10:00 a.m., and celebration of the Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at San Martin de Porres, 8321 Camino San Martin SW, Albuquerque. TUCKER -- SALLY ANN Passed away peacefully on July 24, 2012. She was born on April 17, 1917, in Ranger, TX to Marvin Edgar and Tellie Garner, the 7th of nine children. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Stiles and husband, Thomas; her grandchildren, Chad Heard, Christopher Stiles, Abigail Stiles and husband, Patrick Martin; and great-grandchildren, Alexander and Caeden Adams, Max and Miriya Stiles, and Ciara Martin-Stiles.
