BARELA -- JOSE GILBERT Age 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, March 3, 2012. Gilbert was a wonderful husband, an adoring father, a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hard worker who many times helped out many people with his auto mechanic skills out of the kindness of his heart. Gilbert made friends easily and will be missed by all who knew him. He was the most forgiving, kind, loving, and generous man. Gilbert especially loved and spoiled the children in his life. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Julia A. Barela; daughters, Janice Tigges, Isabel Barela, Grace Duran and husband Robert; grandchildren, Jaime Tigges and wife Jennifer, Patrick Duran, LeeAnn Duran, Victoria Lujan and husband Matthew, Robert Duran Jr.; sisters, Fede Barela, and Susie Barela; great-grandchildren, Mariah Cordova, Daniel Barela, Kayla Barela, Mathew Lujan Jr., Dominic Lujan, Jocelynn Lujan, Elijah Munoz, Noah Munoz. BEDFORD -- PATTI NELMS Wife to David Bedford, mother to Beau, Rachel and Alexis Bedford and daughter of Dewey and Doris Nelms, went to meet her Savior on Saturday, March 3rd. Patti leaves a legacy of boldness, sincerity, compassion and most of all, love. Patti was born on July 18, 1952, in Sweetwater, TX. She was a bubbly and energetic child, earning her the name "Chatty Patti" at Goddard HS in Roswell, NM. Patti grew to be beloved and praised in her community for her many accomplishments and infectious personality, eventually earning her the title of Homecoming Queen. Patti went on to move from Roswell to Albuquerque and later on to receive a scholarship to Southern Methodist University, where she graduated with a BA in English. With her beauty, intelligence, and poise, Patti also won the title of Miss New Mexico, and placed 12th overall in the Miss America Pageant in 1973. After college, Patti attended Walnut Hill United Methodist Church where she met the love of her life, David Bedford. After she and David were married, she came to know Christ as her personal Savior, and from there her ministry began. During this time, Patti and David also started Bedford Advertising and successfully grew their business for the next 30+ years. In 1983, Patti became a mother with her first son Beau, followed by Rachel and Alexis. During this time, Patti ministered to countless people through prayer, counseling, and spiritual guidance, helping so many through their darkest times without judgment or condemnation. Patti became a grandmother in 2005, welcoming Boston Lee, Beau's son. Her family was her greatest joy in the earthly world, and she blessed each and every member in a way that cannot be replicated. She will be greatly missed by all and leaves one of the purest examples of how to live and love fully through Christ, our Lord. She is survived by her husband David Bedford; mother Doris Nelms; brothers Russell and Fielder Nelms; children Beau, Rachel and Alexis Bedford; and grandson Boston Lee Akin. A viewing and visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Sparkman Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 6th. ENCINIAS -- MELECIA (MELA) Our beloved and beautiful mother and grandmother left us to meet her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2012. We will miss her more than words can say. Melecia was born on August 24, 1923 to Enrique and Isabel Chavez on a beautiful ranch in La Palma, New Mexico. As she grew into a young lady, her parents built and ran a business on Route 66 which included a gas station, diner and motel. Melecia was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Amadeo Encinias and her grandson, Patrick Jacob Encinias. Surviving her are her son, Leroy Encinias and wife, Colleen; daughters, Mary Louise Anaya and husband, Larry, and Emily Orosco and husband, Frank. Grandchildren are Lee Encinias, Daniel Encinias, Carolyn Anaya, Dennis Anaya, Dana Anaya, Melanie Castillo, Bobby Castillo, Sara Sanchez and husband Andrew, and Carina Cozby. Her precious great-grandchildren are Brandi Encinias, Baylee Encinias, Adan Anaya, Patrick Encinias, Daniel Encinias, Adrianna Lopez, Isaac Salsberry, Alex Cozby and baby Jackson Sanchez. She is also survived by her sisters Della and husband Ted Gonzales, Isabel and husband Julian Gallegos, and sister-in-law Maida Chavez. Also surviving is her step-mother-in-law Florinda Encinias and step-brothers-in-law Raymond, Segundo, Adan and Martin Encinias, and step-sisters-in-law Henrietta Garcia, Erma Gonzales, Lucy Orio, Elena Irving, Juanita and Tommie Encinias, and Clora Lopez. FAULK -- ROBERT "BOBBY" Age 7, was welcomed by our Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 3, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on January 30, 2005, to Robert Faulk and Diana Faulk. Bobby loved the movie "Cars" and the tv show "Spongebob." He was an excellent X-Box gamer and could beat anybody. He was very intelligent and brave. He fought leukemia for over two years and loved to tell his nurses what they needed to do next. Bobby was very loving and kind. She was employed at Kirkland Air force Base as a Typist. She was a wife and a devoted mother and spent the last 17 years of her life at St. John's Rehabilitation Center. HUDSON -- JUANITA "JENNIE" ROSA Age 92, passed away quietly on Saturday, March 3, 2012 surrounded by her loving family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jennie was born September 14, 1919 in Cuba, New Mexico to Ambrosio and Juanita Montoya. Jennie was a young girl when the family relocated to Albuquerque's Martineztown, where she became a lifetime resident. Jennie worked in the downtown area of Albuquerque in her early years and later retired after 20 years of service at the Village Inn Pancake House on Central Avenue. Jennie loved to meet people; she touched many lives and made many friends in the city over the years. Her greatest joys in life were playing bingo, walking every day and riding the city bus. She also took great pride in tending to her flowers every summer and she especially loved her roses. Jennie was most proud of her family and their accomplishments. She dedicated many years of her life to being a wonderful "Nana" to the younger grandchildren and "Grandma Jennie" to the older grandchildren. Jennie was preceded in death by her sisters, Josie Casados, Manuelita Atencio, Rita Fierro, Flora Buckles and brother, Henry Montoya. Jennie is survived by her sons, Manuel Montoya and wife Justina of Belen and Tommy Hudson and wife Karen of Albuquerque; and daughter Gloria Mares and husband Amado of Taos. HUMPHRIES -- MARY ELIZABETH Age 89, died on March 4, 2012. She was a long-time resident of Albuquerque, NM. Mary was born March 4, 1923 in Albuquerque, NM. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. She was a homemaker who was known for her sewing, handwork, and canning. She will be remembered for her faith and friendship, her lifelong gift of letter writing, and her sense of humor kept us laughing until the end. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy M. Humphries in 1978. JACOBSEN -- ELOISE TITTLE a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died on March 1, 2012. Eloise was born in Ft. Worth on September 3, 1921, and grew up on the Texas panhandle and in Greer County, Oklahoma, during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, an upbringing that gave her a core of uncomplaining toughness. Whenever she was asked how she was doing, even at the hospital, she replied, "Pretty good." She attended Mangum Junior College and earned her bachelors and masters degrees in geology from the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of Sigma Xi, the honorary scientific society. She was kind, sweet and giving, and touched the lives of many Albuquerqueans as director of Mom's Morning Off at Heights Baptist Church during the 1970s and 1980s. She taught Sunday School at Highland Baptist until her final illness. Her bright blue eyes and lovely smile will remain in our hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her parents Lem H. and Mallie Jo (Miller) Tittle, her sister Eileen Tittle Donaldson, special cousin Juanita Jahns, and her husband of four decades, Lynn C. Jacobsen. She is survived by her four sons, Mark of Arlington, Virginia, Jim and Carol Blair of Tijeras, Peter of Sacramento, and Joel and his wife Carla Beauchamp of Albuquerque, and by three grandsons, Alexander, Scott and Benjamin Jacobsen. If anyone remarked on the absence of daughters in her family, Mom always explained, "I'm a specialist." JOHNSON -- RYAN THOMAS Age 24, passed away on February 29, 2012, at his home after a long illness. Ryan was born in Albuquerque on March 4, 1987. He is survived by his son, Colton Patrick Johnson, grandparents; Bruce and Judy Johnson, parents; Joel and Traci Yother, sisters; Autumn and Wynter, brother; Steven Carroll, Aunt: Teri Johnson, Uncle Thomas and Aunt Sherry Johnson, Cousin; Keri Grizzle, Cousins; Dustin and Angela Johnson, Great-Aunts; Mary Liberty, Ana Zorn, Linda Matthews, and numerous 2nd cousins. Ryan attended Sandia High School in Albuquerque, where he played football for the Sandia Matadores. He played Ice Hockey from the age of 6 to 18 as the goal tender. He was a competitive paint ball player. His passion was hunting Turkey and Water Foul with this Grandfather and Uncle Tom. Elena was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Edras S. Montoya; parents, Aurelio Trujillo and Rosabe Gallegos Trujillo; siblings, Josie, Dee, Ralph, Felix, Elias, and Nick. She was born in Pagosa Springs, CO in 1921 and moved, as a young child, to Espanola to live with her grandmother due to her father's death. Elena later moved to live and work in Santa Fe where she met Edras at Bruns VA Hospital. They married and lived for a short while in Socorro, eventually moving to Albuquerque where they built their home and raised their family. They were active members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for 63 years. Elena's family was very dear to her, and her main focus. She was an active service member at the church. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, Sacred Heart Altar Society and the Blue Army. Elena loved to cook, bake, and can for her family and friends and was known for her apple pie. She and Edras valued education, ensuring all their children graduated from college. She was the "wind beneath their wings" for her entire family. Elena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Elena's family would like to thank all of the caregivers throughout her life. O'CANNA -- ABEL J. Beloved husband and father, Abel J. O'Canna, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 3, 2012. He is survived by his children, Gary and wife Myra O'Canna, Larry O'Canna, and Deborah and husband Scott Waldman; grandchildren, Glen and wife Maria Elena O'Canna, Travis O'Canna, Randy O'Canna, Whitney Waldman, and Chase and wife Mindi Waldman; great-grandchildren, Eli O'Canna, Emee Waldman, Aria Waldman, and Mateo O'Canna; nieces and nephews, Joann Muro, Robert Lonteen, Dee Maloof and Faye Simpson. Abel was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Lucille, in November of 2011. He was a veteran of World War II and a P.O.W. Abel owned and operated his own general contracting business for over 30 years. He had a strong work ethic, which he instilled in both his children and grandchildren, and was an excellent craftsman in everything he did. Abel, or Grandpa Abe as he was often called, will always be remembered as the most dependable, hard-working, strong-willed, yet kind hearted man anyone would be honored to know. Susana loved her family, enjoyed gardening and was a great cook. SALAZAR -- RAFAELITA "LITA" Age 87, resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully in Lake Havasu City, Arizona on February 24, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eloy F. Salazar; parents, Leo and Luisa Candelaria and sister, Lottie Sierra. Lita was a hard working and loyal employee while working with the Bernalillo County Treasurer's office as well as the County Assessor's office. She rose to the position of Deputy County Assessor. Lita later worked for the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District in their mapping department until her retirement. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and an excellent cook. She was known for making some of the finest "biscochitos" in Albuquerque. She is survived by her children, Irene Yoder and husband Galen, Hilda Ortiz, Sam Salazar and wife Theresa, Jeannette Fantl and husband Brian; her sister, Carmen Dauber and husband Moe; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Public visitation will begin on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., followed by Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of French Funeral Home on Wyoming NE. TAYLOR -- JOHN RANDLE Age 72, of New Mexico, passed away on the evening of March 2, 2012. John is the son of Randle and Elizabeth Atwood Taylor, born in San Antonio, Texas on September 8, 1939. He attended the University of Texas where he was in the SAE fraternity, received a law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law and a Master of Taxation Law degree from New York University. He practiced law with his father at Taylor & Taylor Law Firm in San Antonio, TX. In 1970 he moved to Albuquerque where he opened up his law practice. He is known as 'Jack' by his family and friends, he was a warm, kind individual who always had a smile on his face. He loved sports especially tennis, golf and fishing in the rivers of Northern New Mexico. He was an avid reader of history books, mysteries and biographies. Jack is survived by his children, James Willoughby Taylor, Nicole Dupont Strub and John Randle Taylor; his grandchild, Margaret Ann Taylor; his sisters, Elizabeth Taylor and Star Taylor; and long time friend Mary Tucker Cassell. TORRES -- MARIA ISABEL "ISABEL" was born on November 20, 1936 in Terrero, NM and passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012 in Albuquerque, at the age of 75. Maria graduated from Sacred Heart Cathedral High School in Gallup, NM. She worked for the office of Hearing and Appeals for Social Security for 33 years, retiring in 2006. Maria, who preferred to be called Isabel, was a devout Catholic. She always had a smile for anyone who met her and was fiercely devoted to her family. She was affiliated with many Catholic Associations as well as St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Isabel also enjoyed many crafts and proudly displayed her products throughout her home. Her smile and cute giggle will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her auntie; Mary "Neni" Zaragoza; and sons, Robert John Torres and Steven Carl Anderson. Isabel is survived by her son, Michael F. Anderson and wife Jodie of Rio Rancho; grandsons, Gino Ortiz and Jennette, Robert Ortiz and Crystal, all of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Angela Sharp and husband Ray of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Santos, Dominic, Andres, Marcus, Aaron, Estevan, Jackson, Joshua, Jayla, and Victoria; special friends, Sharon, Bunny, Lucille, and Isabel #2; as well as many other relatives and friends who love and will miss her.
