ROYBAL -- CLARA HERRERA Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, was accompanied by our Lord Jesus Christ through the gates of heaven on Sunday, September 25, 2011. Clara, or Clarita as she was known by many, was 84 years of age. She was born March 22, 1927 in Chamita, NM. It was there she met the love of her life, Leandro Roybal, who became her devoted husband for 49 years, until his passing in 1998. They built their home together in El Guique, NM where Leandro was from. Thereafter, Clara and Leandro moved to Albuquerque, NM to raise their seven children, and called it home forever. Like a true Nortena from northern New Mexico, Clara always had fresh tortillas or homemade bread, hot food and of course red or green chili on the stove for her family when they returned from work and school. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, and sewing. She could sew a patch, by hand, on any piece of clothing in a way that would make her proud. She kept the house clean at all times as if the President was coming to visit, she'd say. She taught her children to do the same. Clara belonged to St. Edwin Parish where she was active in the Alter Rosary Society and Cursillo until 1998 when she moved to the North Valley after the passing of her loving partner, Leandro. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Leandro Roybal; daughter, Renee Roybal and son, Kenny Roybal; her parents, Leandro and Belen Herrera of Chamita, NM, and by her brother, Leandro "Leo" Herrera, Jr. of Albuquerque. She is survived by three sons, Leonard (Richard), Jake and wife Alice, and Larry Roybal; two daughters, Sandra Medina and husband Jimmy, and Louella Rimbert and husband Robert. Also surviving Clara are her brothers Adan and wife Nancy, Floyd and wife Susie, Sosimo and wife Carol, Pete and wife Patricia; sisters, Elizabeth Gallegos and husband Marvin, all of Albuquerque, and Loretta Salazar of Espanola. Clara is also survived by ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and devoted friends who loved and will miss her greatly. Services will be held at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW on Thursday, September 29, 2011. A Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial immediately following. Interment of the cremated remains will take place immediately after Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE., where she will be joined with Leandro into eternal rest with Our Lord. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St NW, ABQ. 505-343-8008
