CHAVEZ -- MARIA VICENTA ADELICIA LUCIA Bess C. Chavez, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, August 14, 2011. Bess was born in Adelino, New Mexico December 13, 1916. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church since 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ralph I. Chavez in 2003; her parents, Antonio Chavez and Esquipula Chavez; her brothers, Elias Chavez of San Francisco, CA and E.J. Chavez of Denver, CO; her sisters, Sally Barth and Anne Roybal Romero of Albuquerque, NM. Bess is survived by her five children, Abe Chavez and wife Betty of Pueblo, CO, Rose Gilbert and husband Jim also of Pueblo, CO, Gloria Baca and husband Carlos, Cathy Chavez, Ralph A. Chavez and Mary Garcia all of Albuquerque, NM; 16 grandchildren, Cindy Brandich and husband Rick of Colorado Springs, CO, Yvonne Curtis of Denver, CO, Arlene Pope and husband Mike of Glenwood, IA, Liz Chavez of Denver, CO, Ron Gilbert and wife Kary of Dallas, TX, Jim Gilbert and wife Elubia of Rapid City, SD, Jeanne Schweiger and husband Tim of Temicula, CA, Michelle Gilbert and husband Rick Arnold of Loveland, CO, Vince Gilbert of Albuquerque, NM Carlos Baca, Jr. and wife Ann of Atlanta, GA, Chris Baca, Geri Stahl, Dennis Baca and wife Kathy, David Baca and wife Jolene all of Albuquerque, NM, Angela West of Germantown, MD and Daniel Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; 32 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. Bess is also survived by her sisters, Lily Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM and Jane Springer of Santa Fe, NM. Also our friend Margaret Olona. A special thank you to Mary Garcia and her mother Nola Romero who provided round the clock care for mom during our most difficult times. A thank you to Bernice Sandoval and Darlene Archibeque from Vista Care Hospice who came every day to help mom. A thank you to Dr. Carla Herman who has always provided our family with compassion and comfort during our most difficult times. We would like to share some special words that were written for Mom from a special church friend: "We want to thank you so much for all you've given us - Your great persistence in attending mass despite the pain and discomfort ( that darned knee!!), your wonderful smile on that beautiful face with the "skin you love to touch", your terrific attitude, what a role model you've been to your family and friends!.. ESQUIBEL -- ALFONSO RALPH JR. Age 82, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Friday, August 12, 2011. He was born January 13, 1929 to the late Rev. Alfonso and Ada Esquibel, in Santa Fe, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque, NM. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, who served his country during the Korean Conflict, thereafter became a Funeral Director in Denver, CO. Alfonso is survived by his loving children, Lisa, Susie, Michael Esquibel, Annette Murphey, and Carla Esquibel-Melendez; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Susie Espinoza and Amelia Huston; and other extended family members and friends. GABALDON -- TONY Age 83, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011. He was born June 13, 1928 to Henry and Inez (Garcia) Gabaldon in Belen, NM. Tony was retired from the U.S. Army, and also Sandia Laboratories. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, a member of the Holy Name Society and usher for over 60 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Gabaldon and mother Inez (Garcia) Gabaldon. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Clara; three daughters, Geraldine and husband John DeBoo, Diane and husband Vern Barela, Linda and husband Carl Ward-Hersee; son, Karl Gabaldon; grandchildren, Shawn DeBoo, Alicia Espinosa, Kris DeBoo, Monique Bischoff, Brian Ward-Hersee, and Brandon Ward-Hersee; great-grandchildren, Emily, Nicholas, Daniel, Jalea, Taylor, Aiden, Ashton, Caiden, Bregan and New Baby. GARCIA -- DAVID 1923-2011 David Garcia, age 87, a resident of Belen, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. David retired from the BNSF Railroad as an electrician and was also a veteran of the United States Army. David served in Germany where he was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart in 1945. He was a 1943 graduate of Belen High School and a good handyman. David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Garcia; children, Yvonne Sanchez, Veronica Arnoff and her husband David, David Garcia and his wife Carmel, Andy Garcia and his wife Robin, Lorena Rosley and her husband Rich and Thomas Garcia and his wife Yvette; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Thursday, August 18, 2011 beginning with a viewing at 9:00 AM followed by recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 AM. HEISE -- JOHN "JACK" Age 75, passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 14, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Maria Heise; his daughters, Deborah Basha and husband, Lloyd, and Rita Adcox and husband, Steve; his son, Philip Heise and wife, Lauren; ten grandchildren, Erin Kerbo and husband, Jack, Brittany Basha, Megan Basha, Scott Basha, Graham Basha, Sean Adcox, Kyle Adcox, Chad Adcox, Justin Heise and Christopher Heise; three great-granddaughters; siblings, Theresa, Fidelis, Jim, Dave, George, Tom, Phil and Mary Jo; and numerous nieces and nephews. HULETT -- JAMES CHARLES "COOL" Passed into the arms of God on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. Jim was 74 years old having been born in 1937 to Andrew J. and Lillye T. Hulett in Dermott, AR. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister Kathaleen; brothers, Tom and Bill; and nephew Andy. Surviving are his brother, Andrew "Jack" Hulette and wife, Gennie of Albuquerque; cousins, J.J. Johnson of Albuquerque, Renee Jackson and Jo Ann Wallace of Houston, TX and H.G. "Sonny" Johnson of Monroe, LA; Also surviving are a number of nephews and nieces residing from Hawaii to Florida. He entered the service from Santa Fe, NM and served in the army in Japan for five years. Jim was a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitter's Union having worked all over the US as a certified welder for a number of years. After his retirement from the trades, he worked as a bartender at Fort Huachuca, AZ while residing in Elgin, AZ. Later, after moving to New Mexico, he enjoyed Flea Markets as a hobby. He was a member of the Moose Club in Belen, NM where he made his home. He reared and deeply loved his two Kuvasz dogs. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him well for his quick wit, a terrific memory, a generous heart, and a winning personality. Great appreciation is extended to the entire staff in the Hospice unit at the VA Hospital, and his many friends who visited him there. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at French ~ Wyoming Chapel with J.J. Johnson presiding. KEARNEY -- JACK "POPA" On Wednesday, August 10, 2011, this world lost a GREAT man. At age 65, Popa left this world for a greater life with Our Lord. Popa was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1946 and later moved to Albuquerque where he met the love of his life. Popa and Grandma were married in 1963 and became the cornerstone for the family that was created through love, compassion, honesty, dignity and respect. Popa was a very hard working, honest man whose integrity and convictions were bar none. Popa spent most of his life working in the steel industry as a manager before he retired to spend his time with what was his greatest joy and the most important thing in his life, his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His dedication and commitment to his family could be seen and felt in every action in his life. He was a very selfless man whose last thoughts were of his deep love for his wife and family. He's survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary; children, Carey Kearney and Deanna Tulino and son-in-law, Michael Tulino; grandchildren, Christina Sharp and grandson-in-law, Iain Sharp, Tommy Wells, Jennifer Wells, Jared Kearney, Kyle Kearney, and Eric Kearney; great-grandchildren, Shayne Wells and Dylan Sharp; and brother, Raymond Perks. LOZANO -- PULEPULE MAYBELLE LAUOFO Pulepule Maybelle Lauofo-Lozano 30, passed away August 12, 2011. She was born in American Samoa on May 22, 1981 to Taalo P. and Fiamaua T. Lauofo, both preceded her in death. May is survived by her husband Christopher A. Lozano; her son Julian T. Lozano; two brothers and four sisters. May moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2009 from Hawaii where she served in the Air National Guard. She was employed by Ball Aerospace and served as the third vice-commander of the American Legion Post 99. She will be most remembered for the way she touched the lives of everyone she ever met and will be deeply missed. MAYER -- NICHOLAS Age 49, of Albuquerque died on the morning of August 9, 2011 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, Wyoming. He was born in Albuquerque, on July 18, 1962, and later raised in Laramie, Wyoming and Annville, Pennsylvania. He worked as a plant manager for a large modular housing corporation, and was accomplished in the fields of construction and carpentry. Until his passing he had been pursuing an education degree at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He is survived by his son, Zachery of Baxley, Georgia; brothers, Fred Mayer of Albuquerque, Johannes Mayer of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Mark Mayer of Brattleboro, Vermont; his sister, Agnes Mikijaniec of Brattleboro, Vermont; his step-mother, Heidrun Mayer of Brattleboro, Vermont. MCGHEE -- BILLY Billy E. McGhee, 79, went home to be with the Lord August 12, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Martha; children, Phillip McGhee, Marjorie Mock and husband Steven; grandchildren, Trevor and Logan; great-grandson, Derek; and many other family and friends. Billy was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lucille; and his brother Bobby. Mr. McGhee was a graduate of McNary High School in Arizona, served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard and the USS Elder and then attended the University of New Mexico where he received his associate's degree. During that time he met the love of his life Martha. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, bowling, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Billy was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. He was active in the USBC Bowling Association and a member of the American Legion Post 49. MILLER -- ROBERT O. B. (BENNY) Lifelong resident of Bernalillo, New Mexico, a member of Our Lady Of Sorrows Church. Retired from Corps of Engineers and was a Veteran of the Korean War. MONROE -- ELIAS J. JR. Age 70, a life-long resident of Las Vegas, NM was taken by our Lord and Savior in Albuquerque, on August 13, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully, surrounded by his devoted wife and his seven beloved children. He was born the sixth of seven children on May 28th, 1941. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane; his seven children Yvonne Martin and husband Tom of Albuquerque, Dwayne Monroe of Denver, Colorado, Yvette Edwards and husband Yusef of Kent, Washington, Jeannean Martinez and husband Scott of Aurora, Colorado, Michael Monroe and fiance Annette Trujillo of Santa Fe, Patricia Pacheco and husband Bob of Albuquerque, and Robert Monroe of Denver, Colorado; his 12 grandchildren Aaron, Monique, Vanessa, Dominick, Stephen, Jasmine, Joshua, Baylee, MacKenzie, Draken, Vincent, and Nicholas; brother Raymond Monroe of Panama City, Florida; sisters Dora Osborne and husband Rex of Clovis, and Lucille Madrid and husband Leonard of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Carmen Martinez of Albuquerque and Bobby Kypta of Sacramento, California whom he considered siblings, and his special nephew Charles Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents Elias Monroe Sr. and Mela Archuleta Monroe; his brother Arthur Monroe, and his sisters Cipriana Brashear and Marcella Monroe. He was a loving father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend, who never failed to make you laugh with his incredible sense of humor to the very end. As a young man, he was full of energy and embraced life with enthusiasm. In 1957, at the age of 16, he joined the Las Vegas National Guard, serving for 3 years and was very proud of his expert status at the Firing Range; he was a Boy Scout. Never afraid of hard work, he spent one summer working in the cherry fields in California and two summers working in the oil fields in Kansas. In high school, he was a member of the "Hungry 5", a high school comedic music group that entertained at school board meetings, chamber of commerce banquets, and other functions throughout the state, playing German polkas and making people laugh. In 1968, he earned his B.A. in Music from New Mexico Highlands University; he served as chairman of Kappa Kappa Psi. Upon graduation, he accepted the position of band director at Mora High School. During his time in Mora, he was passionate about his job and always held a special place in his heart for the people of Mora. In 1975, he realized his dream and opened the Casa De Musica on the Plaza. For the 36 years, he was a prominent businessman and entrepreneur, starting several successful businesses, including the Casa de Musica and the New Mexico Monument Company. The foundation of his success was built on honesty and a guiding principle that everyone should be treated equally. He strongly believed in community service. During his lifetime, he served as a volunteer Fire Fighter at E. Romero Hose and Fire, charter member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters at NMHU, chairman of the Las Vegas Hispano Chamber of Commerce, board member of the Crime Stoppers Committee, member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Council, member of Knights of Columbus, member of Las Vegas First, and an Assistant Cub Scout Master. Elias and his wife, Diane, instilled the importance of faith in God, family, education, and a strong work ethic in their children. He considered one of his greatest achievements the fact that all 7 of his children earned college degrees. His children consider his greatest achievement raising them with unconditional love and providing words of encouragement during times of struggle that most times resulted in hugs, smiles, and laughter. He enjoyed watching movies, landscaping, and remodeling, but mostly spending time with his family. He was a modest, hardworking, generous, loving father with a great sense of humor. He was larger than life in his children's eyes. He was loved very much and will be missed even more. Both The Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary and The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, in Las Vegas New Mexico. Services begin at 8:00 AM. Mr. Monroe will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary cemetery beside his parents in a private burial later that day. OTERO -- ROSIE A resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 15, 2011. Born in Los Lunas, NM, Rosie spent much of her early life in Albuquerque. She graduated from Los Lunas High School and attended a girl's business college in Albuquerque. She worked for the U.S. Government and private industry. She was a faithful servant, and lived to serve the Lord to the end of life. May she rest in peace for all eternity. Rosie was preceded in death by her father, Lalo Otero; mother, Adelfita Otero; step-mother, Anita Otero; and sisters, Luggie Walker and husband, Wilbur Walker and Julia Perea. She is survived by her sisters, Elinora Oliver, Mary Jane Martin and husband, Carlos, and Meg Luther and husband, Rick; brother, Ed Otero; sister-in-law, Dolores Otero; brother-in-law, Moises Perea; many nieces and nephews; and many living friends who will miss her dearly. The family would like to thank the staff from Canyon Transitional Rehabilitation Center and Hospice Compassus for all their support and assistance. PAIZ -- ROMAN JR. Age 68, after a short illness, went to be with the Lord. Roman was born September 11, 1942 in Encino, NM to Roman Sr. and Ferminia Paiz. Roman was preceded in death by his mother. Roman is survived by his father, Roman Paiz, Sr.; sister, Mary Chavez and husband, Luis; niece, Judy Sanchez and husband, Ray; niece, Lynette Chavez and fiance, Joe Dvorak; great-nieces, Kimberly and Veronica Sanchez; great-nephews, Jacob and Michael Sanchez. He is also survived by Ricardo Padilla whom he considered his adopted son and close friend, Miguel Gonzales. Roman is also survived by many loving cousins, friends, and his beloved dog, Sisco. Roman was a graduate of Vaughn High School in 1962. He attended New Mexico State University for one semester and then decided it was not for him and joined the US Army, serving all his enlistment in Germany. He was employed by Continental Trailways for 15 years where he held the position of District Sales Manager. After Continental Trailways closed, he became a Corrections Officer for the City of Albuquerque where he retired after 23 years. Roman found he could not stay retired and acquired part-time employment with Double Tree Hotel where he was employed at the time of his death. Going to work was always a great joy for him to be around his fellow employees and the patrons. Roman was known to always help anyone in need and also for being a workaholic. Pallbearers are Miguel Gonzales, Michael Sanchez, Jacob Sanchez, Joseph Vigil, Luis Hernandez, and Daniel Rivera. RICKERT -- ALLEN EMIL Died peacefully at home with his loving family by his side August 11, 2011. He was born on April 3, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY. He moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1976 and soon there after in 1978 he met his future wife. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Gloria Rickert; his daughter, Rachel Audrey Rickert. He is survived by his loving wife, Seferina; two loving sons, Richard and Kyle Rickert. Also by his twin sister, Dale and her husband Steven Hand and their son Justin. RIVERA -- BOLIVAR V. Age 58, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Saturday, August 13, 2011. He is survived by his spouse, Maxine Rivera; mother, Leonor Rivera; children, Veronica Berrier, Elena Sanchez, Victoria Rivera, Bolivar Rivera Jr., and Katherine Rivera; six grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters. Mr. Rivera was preceded in death by his father, William Rivera Sr.; brother, William Rivera Jr.; and grandson, Logan Slaten. He was a member of Sangre de Cristo Catholic Community, and was a retired Major of the United States Air Force. WILLIAMS -- ROBERT EARL "NO PASS" Was born to Robert Sr. and Betty Jean Williams on February 17, 1959 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He joined our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, due to a short illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Williams; his grandmother, Mable Adams; his grandfather, Horace Adams; his uncle, Paul Bennett and his aunt, Odean Collier. Robert is survived by his father, Robert Williams Sr.; sister, Cynthia Benson; brothers, Robert H. Williams and Timothy Williams all from Los Lunas, NM; sisters Cheryl Williams of Vancouver, WA, and Lillian Bowser of Macon, GA; a close family friend Glen "Bo" Martin of Los Lunas; aunts, Eloise Gill of Maryville, LA, Mary Jo Davis and Billie K Elem; uncle, Charlie Bennett of Denver, CO; also numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him.
