JOHNSTON -- ROSEMARY (ROSE) Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Rosemary passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 14, 2011, in Albuquerque, NM, with a smile on her face - no different than how she lived her life. Rosemary (Rose) was born in 1919 and was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Phil S. Johnston of Albuquerque; and three brothers and three sisters, Herb Wilson, Cliff Wilson, Bob Wilson, Pauline Wilson, Anna Burnett Wilson, and Betty J. Vickers. Rose is survived by her daughters, Julie Braswell and husband, Bruce of Albuquerque, Shirley (Nault) Candelaria and husband, Bob of Page, AZ, and Jean (Nault) Vandenberg and husband, Robert of New Braunfels, TX. Along with her children, Rose was blessed with eight grandchildren who called her "Grandma". They are Cody and Dustin Braswell, Brian, Kevin, Deborah, and Joseph Candelaria, and Eric and Stacey Vandenberg. In addition, Chase Wallace and Jenna Wallace, children of Patricia Vickers, loved Rose as their "Grandma" as well. Not only "Grandma" to ten special children, Rose also had three great-grandchildren, Cameron Candelaria, Elle Vandenberg, and Elken Vandenberg. "Aunt Rose" has seven living nephews and nieces, Dr. Lon Vickers, Philip Vickers, Mary Ann Mott, John Vickers, Patricia Vickers-Wallace, Fran Wilson Higgins and Jim Wilson; and one special deceased nephew, Charles W. Vickers. Rose spent most of her life in Albuquerque where her life's focus was her beloved family. Enjoying not only her three daughters and their families, she loved watching her grandchildren's growth, seeing them excel in life, sports, education, marriages, and their own spiritual paths. Her grandchildren were the pride of her life. Her nurturing extended beyond just her three daughters, to her nephews and niece, John and Tricia Vickers, who were only six years old and one year old when Rose's sister, Betty J. Vickers passed away in 1966. Rose was "Mom" to more kids than just her own. She was special to each family member and she will be forever missed and remembered. Rose enjoyed her life's journey, faced a few health issues along the way, but never lost her zeal for life and she dearly loved the close relationship she had with her daughter, Julie Braswell and son-in-law, Bruce Braswell, who provided a home for Rose during most of her last 20 plus years. Rose maintained special relationships with each of her daughters, Shirley, Jean and Julie, being there for them in any capacity she was called upon as a mother. Rose was blessed with a special daughter, Julie, who loved and cared for her mother until the very end. Rose was a proud christian, and no doubt is continuing her spiritual relationship in a better place. Rose would say to each of those who survive her, "I was never a rich person in terms of money, but my life was rich in family, friends, and memories. I hope all can experience the essence of life I have on this earth." Services will be held Friday, July 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join with Rosemary's family for a gathering at the home of Julie and Bruce Braswell in Albuquerque, immediately following the graveside service.
