ZUSCAR -- Dr. Arthur B. Zuscar, PHD, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 1, 2011. His love, his caring, his understanding, his inspiration and his kindness will be missed by everyone who ever had the honor of knowing him. He never met a stranger! He was there for anyone who needed him. He was a wonderful listener and friend to so many. Art is survived by the "love of his life", as he was often heard to say...as he was "the love of her life", his wife of too short a time, Karen Marie Zuscar. Though only married three years, they had both found their soul mates. Their love, laughter and "snuggles", made their life complete; He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who loved him deeply. He was predeceased by Marygale Zuscar, his wife of 37 years; and his mother, Katherine Daniels. Art retired from the Navy in 1978 as a Chief Aviation Electronics Tech. During this time he earned his BA degree in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude, for outstanding academic achievement and his MA in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. He taught Communications, Radar and Navigation, and Classified Electronic Countermeasures Equipment. He earned a Top Secret Clearance with a Cryptographic Endorsement. Art was so proud of his 22 years of service in the Navy and never failed to demonstrate his patriotism. He went on to earn his PHD in 1983 and opened a private practice in Clinical Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy. He retired in 2001. Many of those patients still keep in touch. After moving to New Mexico, he taught Psychology at College of Santa Fe, Lewis University, and CNM. Art loved his students and they loved him. He retired a year ago from CNM, but couldn't stay away. He taught part-time at CNM. Art was an active board member of the Oasis senior group. He enjoyed the many lectures and trips with the groups and made many friendships along the way. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Adobe Theatre. He never missed a performance. Art was a fighter. Despite his rough beginnings, he accomplished everything he set out to do and so much more. He was such a part of so many people's lives. He still had so much to give, but his body just gave out before he could. He will forever be in our hearts. Rosary will be recited for Art on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, with viewing 1/2 hr. prior from 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 9:00 a.m., at Shrine of St. Bernadette.
