BACKSTROM -- Mary M . Backstrom, 89, died November 28, 2009. A longtime resident of Albuquerque. Mary is survived by her children, Stanley H. Anthony and wife Joann, Scott A. Anthony and wife Karen; step-children, Kent Backstrom, Doug Backstrom and Lynn Shull; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several other family and friends. DANIELS -- Lillian Eleanor Daniels, 96, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1966, passed away on November 27, 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon-Joy Palmer of Rio Rancho; three stepchildren, Raymond E. Daniels, Jr., Judith Mead, and Elizabeth L. Flynn; grandson, Cameron Nelson Polland; great-grandchild, Jadyn Virginia Polland; nieces, Carol Sneeden and husband, David of Chelmsford, MA, Alice Ruch and husband, James of Staten Island, NY, and Barbara Langdon and husband Sherill of Batavia, NY, Nancy and Beverly, and Linda Curry; and nephews, Dr. Charles Christiansen and wife, Nancy of Rochester, NY, Robert Nelson, Jr. and Robert Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edward Daniels and daughter, Lois Roberta Daniels; parents, Peter Nelson and Roberta Pettersen Nelson; brothers, Rev. Harold Nelson, Walter Nelson, Lawrence Nelson, Clarence Nelson, and Robert Nelson, Sr.; sisters, Gladys Christiansen, Alice Nelson, Doris Nelson, and Dorothy Nelson; nephew, Harold Nelson, Jr.. Lillian was a gifted teacher and mentor to the blind and developmentally disabled. She taught them how to play musical instruments and how to sing. Lillian served in the ministry as the wife of a Baptist minister for over 30 years. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and shared that with everyone. DANIELS -- Raymond Edward Daniels, III, 44, a resident of Rio Rancho for 39 years, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009. He is survived by his father, Raymond E. Daniels, Jr.; aunts, Betty L. Flynn and Sharon-Joy Palmer and Judith Mead; cousin, Cameron Polland, all of Rio Rancho and Godmother, Maryann Lilienthal of Staten Island, NY. He was preceded in death by his mother Lois R. Daniels, and grandmother, Lillian E. Daniels, with whom he had a special bond. He had graduated from Menaul High School and was presently in the Adelante Day Program. Raymond had a warmth about him that reached out to others and he really enjoyed interacting with them. He had a great love for the Lord and everything to do with the Church. One of his favorite things was to go out for pizza and go bowling. He also enjoyed listening to the music of different bands and dancing to it, even if it was just him. Raymond will be deeply missed by his family and friends. GIBLIN -- James Manser Giblin , D.D.S., Jim peacefully passed away during the early morning hours of November 30, 2009 with his loving wife Deloris by his side. He was born on August 22, 1926 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Marie and Emery Giblin. Jim married Mary Hammack in November of 1950 and they had two sons Michael and David. He married Deloris Eckhardt McManemy in July of 1995 and was blessed with a large extended family at that time. Jim is survived by his wife, Deloris; his children Michael and wife Karol of Austin, Texas, David and wife Nancy of Albuquerque; His grandsons, Christian Max Gardner Giblin and James Kent Giblin. His extended family include his daughters, Manon Doyle and husband Gregory and Michele Shipe; grandchildren, Marya Beauvais, Eran McManemy, Tara Kroeker and husband Jeremy, Laura Whitehead and husband Rye; great-grandchildren, Bailey LaMarca and Corbin Kroeker. His brothers in law R. Charles Hammack and William Eckhardt. Special family friends Pete Sisneros and Ivan Brutsche. Jim graduated from high school in Iraan, Texas in 1943. He continued his education at Texas A&M, where earned a degree in civil engineering in 1947. Stationed in both Korea and Japan, Jim served his country in the Air Force from 1950 to 1953 obtaining the rank of staff sergeant. After leaving the military, he set his sights on a career in dentistry and attended Loyola University from 1954-1958. After graduation, he moved his family to Albuquerque and began his general dentistry practice. He later returned to Loyola University to study periodontology. In 1963, he returned to Albuquerque and began his practice as a periodontist, where he served the community until his retirement in 1985. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. This passion allowed Jim to travel many places with many friends. His final years were spent traveling with his wife Deloris between their homes in Albuquerque and Ruidoso, where he enjoyed the company family and friends. GUTIERREZ -- Teri Gutierrez, born on April 11, 1951, passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2009. Teri is survived by her husband William (Dennis) Gutierrez; her brother, Mark Chappelle and wife, Roberta; nephew and niece Josh and Nikki Chappelle, niece Liam Hastings; aunt and uncle Walter and Charlotte Benny, aunt Marianne and husband Carl Blackie; brother-in-law Fred Gutierrez, brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Mona Gallegos, niece, Regina Gallegos; and her special cat Alfie. Teri was preceded in death by her parents Austin and Pat Chappelle; and brother Cliff Chappelle. Teri had many friends and will be missed by all who met her. KNAPP -- J. W. (Dub) Knapp was called to a tee time with his Lord and Savior Saturday, November 28, 2009. He was born February 5, 1929 in Oklahoma and graduated from Okemah High School in 1948. Dub immediately left for basic training in the Air Force and was stationed at Holloman AFB. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force Dub enrolled at ENMU in Portales, NM and earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting. He held various Civil Service jobs after graduation at White Sands and the Sacramento Army Depot. A promotion took Dub to Albuquerque and Washington, D. C. with the Fish and Wildlife Department until his retirement. Dub and Marian, his wife of 58 years, returned to Albuquerque where he could devote full time to his favorite hobby, golf. He worked for many years as a marshal at Puerto del Sol Golf Course. J. W. (Dub) was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; four brothers; and his beloved son, David Knapp. He is survived by his wife Marian; loving in-laws; nieces; and nephews; plus "adopted" family and friends who were proud to know Dub and stayed by his side through his recent illness. A special New Orleans style Celebration of Life will be held at Christ United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. The address is 6200 Gibson Blvd. SE. MARCON -- Helen (Freda) Marcon died November 30, 2009. She was born in Greece and came to America in 1951. In 1953 she met John Jr. in Pueblo, Colorado and they were married in 1955. Freda and John Jr. moved to Albuquerque in 1957 when John Jr. was hired by Sandia National Laboratories. Freda became a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in 1957 and was elected President of the Daughters of Penelope shortly thereafter. Freda is survived by her husband John Jr. and her sons John III and Anthony. John III and his wife Maria have three children, John A., James and Lina. Anthony and his wife Michele have three children, Nicole, Amanda and Anthony Aaron. Freda is also survived by her sister Yolanta and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Pall bearers will be her sons John III and Anthony, grandsons John A, James, Anthony Aaron and nephew Norm Cairns. MARTINEZ -- Anthony R. (Gabe) Martinez, M.D. died peacefully at the age of 60, on November 25, 2009. Dr. Martinez was born on May 2, 1949 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Senaida and Dan Martinez, both of whom predeceased him. He was a graduate of the University of New Mexico in 1971 where he also completed medical school in 1975. Dr. Martinez then moved to Modesto, CA to complete his medical residency and began his work as one of the only Spanish speaking family practice physicians in the Modesto area. In 1981, Dr. Martinez moved to Los Lunas, New Mexico where he co-established Los Lunas Medical Associates. He dedicated himself to the Valencia County community until July of 2000. Dr. Martinez then joined the medical staff at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas, N.M. At the time of his death and for some years prior, he was the Clinical Director of this Hospital. Dr. Martinez was a voice for the poor, the mentally ill and a proponent for education of minority students. He was a founding member, president and board member of the New Mexico Hispanic Medical Association as well as having served as a board member of the National Hispanic Medical Association. Dr. Martinez also selflessly donated extensive time flying medical equipment, supplies and providing much needed services to the isolated Talahuamara Indians located in northern Mexico. Dr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Catherine Espinosa Rugen; his children, Amy D. Slater and husband Patrick Slater, Dr. Carlos G. Martinez, M.D. and wife Rebeca Martinez, Dr. Concha Maria Adamich, DDS, and Adrian A. Martinez; as well as two step-children, Nick P. Rugen and Allison Rugen; He had four grandchildren, Jovana, Estevan and Antonio Martinez, and Kaeden Martinez; as well as one step-grandchild, Lesianna Rugen. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 300 Mildred N.W., Albuquerque, New Mexico. MCINTYRE -- Stephen Howard McIntyre, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 26, 2009. He is survived by his mother, Mary Lee McIntyre; 14 siblings; daughter Abigail McIntyre; and sons, Sam, Nathan, and Matthew McIntyre. He was a U.S. Marine and veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a letter carrier for USPS who served in Los Alamos and was recognized as postal worker of the year several times. He will be missed, and remembered as loving, sentimental, and spiritual. A Rosary will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 3850 Canyon Rd., Los Alamos, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009. The Funeral Mass will immediately follow the rosary. MOODY -- Chloe "Toadie" Windom Moody, 96, a resident of Albuquerque since 1943, went to join her Lord and her husband Wayne E. Moody on Friday, November 27, 2009. She is survived by her sister Shirley J. Flaherty of Aztec, NM; nephews Dennis and Doug Flaherty; niece Connie Bacon; great nephews Tony Bacon and Joshua Bacon; many other nieces and nephews; son Robert Moody and wife Dodie of Los Lunas, NM; grandchildren Wayne E. Moody of Albuquerque, Kimmie Apodaca and husband Sammy of Peralta and Bobby Moody and wife Terry of Los Lunas; and a large, extended family. Mrs. Moody worked for many years at Kistler-Collister in the millinery department. She was a lifelong Baptist. NYBERG -- Bruce Eugene Nyberg, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1987, passed away November 29, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 9, 1950 in Hennepin County, Minneapolis, Minnesota to Richard Eugene Nyberg and Gertrude Delores Johnson. He married his High School Sweetheart, Toni Mae Mayerle, on July 25, 1970. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from September 1968 to 1995 completing a 26-year career. He then joined the United States Postal Service in 1997 where he was employed until the end of his working career. He volunteered his services on three Mayoral Citizen Action Committees, and assisted with two Neighborhood Associations. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Toni Nyberg; his daughter April; his son Brian and wife Sarah, and his grandsons Caleb and Hunter. He is also survived by a brother, Kim Nyberg, and a sister Cindy Colbert. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, December 4, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. with Military Honors at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM. He served in the United States Navy, was a twenty-eight year employee of the United States Post Office, a realtor at Camco Realty, and a faithful member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. ROSS -- Helen Ross, 79, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2009. Helen was born January 11, 1921 the daughter of James L. and Flora Anderson Ross in Jackson, Tennessee. She had worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Metropolis Water Reclamation District of Chicago before retiring and coming to New Mexico. She was a member of the NAACP. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James and Flora Ross. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Bessie Lynch and husband Joseph of Milwaukee, WI, Rose St. John of Cleveland, OH, Andre De Cordova and wife Yoshi of San Mateo, CA, Foster Williams, Jr. of Chicago, IL, Charles Montgomery of Painsville, OH, and James Montgomery of Memphis, TN; and one grandniece, Shirley Turner. SANDOVAL -- George P. Sandoval, 81, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 27, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eileen Sandoval; children, Chris Sandoval and wife Angela, all of Albuquerque, Cindy Satchell and husband Scott of Tustin, CA, Michele Buckles and husband James of Denver, CO, Lisa Sandoval-Pettenuzzo and husband Michael, Greg Sandoval and wife Lisa, and Suzette Sandoval, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Maria Elena, Jeff, Chelsea and husband Joseph, Chantel, Casey, Carissa, Nicole and husband Kemper, Cameron, Melissa, Dominic, Matthew, Nicole and husband Tony, Carleigh, Elias, Deja, Jacob and Sarina; great-grandchildren, Angelo, Azure, Gillian, Jack, Evangeline, Isaiah, Addison and Avery; siblings, Dorothy Salazar, Prudy Crollett, Sadie Greenleaf, Gloria Smith and husband Bud, Veronica Griego and husband Alex, all of Albuquerque, Bette Phillips of San Luis Obispo, CA and Ron Sandoval and wife Marian of Reno, NV; and a large and extended family. Mr. Sandoval was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Audriana Sandoval. George owned and operated Spanish Furniture and Doors for nearly sixty years. Mr. Sandoval taught at A. Montoya School, Garfield Middle School, Albuquerque High School (Veteran's Vocational Training) and Eastern New Mexico University (Seminars). He was very active at North Valley Senior Center. Cremation has taken place and a memorial rosary will be recited Thursday, December 3, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., at French - University Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday December 4, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Blvd. NE. Park at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Beginning at 9:20 a.m., family will van pool and shuttle up the hill to Newman Center. Return van pool and shuttle will continue until all family and friends have left Newman Center. STRINGER -- Margaret Frances Stringer, 90, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009. She is survived by her son, James Stringer; daughters, Teresa Stringer and Carmel Rippberger and husband, Michael, all of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Mary Krueger and husband, Dennis of Roseville, CA; sister Alice Jeffries of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Queenie Stringer of Lufkin, TX; grandchildren, Rebecca Bejcek and husband, Lewis, Matthew and Jessica Rippberger, and Daniel and Michael Krueger; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Justin Bejcek, Jaidin Whiteaker, and Jennifer, Meagan and Jessica Krueger; and many other relatives and friends, both in the US and Canada. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rufus R. Stringer. She was born on February 10, 1919 in Outer Cove, Newfoundland, Canada to James and Julia Roche, the ninth of their eleven children. Margaret was a wonderful and generous person who touched the lives of many people. She loved to go camping with her husband, as well as staying at home and watching her family grow up where she was famous for her Sunday morning breakfasts. Margaret was a founding member of the Church of the Risen Savior Catholic Church. She was surrounded by the Risen Savior 11th Hour Ministry at the time of her death. The family would like to thank this Ministry, as well as the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living, for the excellent care they gave her over the last four years. They would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Vista Care Hospice at Lovelace Medical Center for the wonderful care and support that they provided during the last month of Margaret's life. Mimi will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Rosary will be recited on Friday, December 4, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. Friends may visit one hour prior to the rosary. STUMP -- Chester Stump, 73, born April 29, 1936, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 28, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving Angel on Earth, wife of 52 years, Thelma; son, Chet; daughter, Kim Lynch and husband Steve; three grandchildren, Kristy Plese and husband Joey, Jolene Lynch and fiance Archie Ribera and Bradi Stump; four great-grandchildren, Faith Plese, Joseph Plese, Julian Ribera and Aleaha Ribera; a sister Esther Armijo; brothers, Millard and Jimmy Stump; and many loving niece's and nephew's. Before retiring, Chester worked for and owned several auto sales businesses. He was an amazing man, with many talents. Was so loved and admired and will be extremely missed by all. Cremation has taken place. VEROCHE -- Nicholas M. Veroche passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at the age of 91. Nick was born in Pennsylvania to Italian immigrants and was the second youngest of 11 children. He proudly served multiple tours in WWII, in the Pacific theater, being awarded many honors, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After WWII, Nick served in the Army Air Corps and was transferred to Kirtland Air Force Base, in Albuquerque, where he met his wife, of 44 years, Genevieve Kavanaugh. Genevieve preceded Nick in death in 1993. Nick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Terry Sims, of Albuquerque; his grandson, Christopher Papaleo, of Albuquerque; several nieces and nephews; dear friend Ruth Sheridan; and many family and friends, including "adopted" grandchildren, Trevor, Dalton, Shalie and Katie Rose. Nick worked for the Public Service Company of New Mexico in the line department and retired after 30 years. He was a member of IBEW, Local 611 receiving a certificate for 55 years of membership. Nick was an avid and talented fisherman who enjoyed being on the river and could help just about anyone hook a fish. He was a member of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish and a member of the Holy Name Society. Nick will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather with a great sense of humor who enjoyed making people laugh with a generous heart and full smile. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at French, 1111 University Blvd. NE. VILLEGAS -- Lenora Beatrice Villegas, age 33, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM was called home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 29, 2009. Lenora was born in Sun Valley, CA on March 16, 1976. She is survived by her husband Eric Matthew Villegas; her daughter Samantha Villegas; her mother and father-in-law Danny and Glenda Villegas who were like her own parents; her very special aunt Ilene Gallegos who was her biggest supporter; her sister-in-law Vanessa Villegas; her mother Josie Pedroncelli; her brothers, Charlie Pedroncelli and Vivian Pedroncelli; her sister Mary Aguilar; many nieces and nephews and countless friends who will miss her dearly. Lenora was a loving wife, and a caring mother who took amazing care of her family. A Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009. WADE -- Oteka Dove Wade, 85, loving mother and grandmommy, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday, November 30, 2009. She was born May 24, 1924 in Purcell, Oklahoma, a daughter of Jesse Joseph and Arilla Mae Mills Dove. WOLFLY -- Howard Fulton Wolfley was born July 12, 1935 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He served in the Navy before attending Penn State University from which he graduated with a degree in economics. He lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for 30 years until 1992 when he moved to Scottsdale. He died there on Saturday with his beloved wife, Kelli, by his side. He is also survived by his daughter, Missy Low of Arvada, CO; his son, Brad of Albuquerque; a brother, Donald of Albuquerque; and four grandchildren. Howard's remarkable spirit of optimism and exuberance touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary and Memorial Park in Scottsdale.
