CARVLIN -- Anita Lucero Carvlin. IN LOVING MEMORY. She was born October 1955, in Albuquerque NM, and joined the LORD on October 6, 2009. She lived her life in Albuquerque, and graduated in '73 from Albuquerque High. Anita, know as Ane, was a compassionate and generous person and loved her family and friends dearly. She embraced the arts with an aesthetic love of music and reading and had a wide collection of literature. She was an avid sports fan and loved to shop. Anita is survived by her sister, Rita; and two brothers; three nieces and two nephews; and leaves behind her husband. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. There can be no Rainbow without the Sun and the Rain.

DIMARCO -- N. DiMarco, Ph.D., of Albuquerque passed away on October 4, 2009, at his home. He was born in New York City on September 28, 1935, and was married to Fran DiMarco for 46 years. He received a Doctorate in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology. A Fellow of the American Physical Society, the majority of his professional career was spent at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Joe enjoyed hiking, fishing, trap shooting, traveling, and as a young man, car racing. He served as Los Alamos County Chair of the Republican Party and on the County's Planning and Zoning Commission. Joe and Fran moved to Albuquerque in 1998. An active supporter of the YMCA, he was also a member of the Zia Rifle Club. Joe was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is also survived by daughters Joann Rosinski, Donna Holland and husband Daniel, and Leah DiMarco; grandchildren Alex Rosinski, Erica Rosinski, Lauren Holland and Lindsey Holland. ESPINOSA -- Carlota Espinosa peacefully passed away at home on September 30, 2009. She was 94 years old. She is survived by her four daughters, Pauline Zamora, husband Seyo, Susie King, husband Jake, Nella Tafoya, husband Ross, Stella Marquez, husband Tommy; and a granddaughter, Victoria Varela, whom she raised as a daughter. She also had a very special grandson, Ernest Segura, who was always by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Miguel; and her four sons, Pete, Victor, Bonifacio and Phillip. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Esther Torrez, Elenore Trujillo and Francis Lucero; and one brother Ciriaco Gallegos. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbarita Aragon and Criselda Saavedra; and one brother Nabor Gallegos. Carlota had 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, a generous grandmother and a very loving friend. She will be missed by everyone. Rosary will be held at San Ignacio Church, in Martinez town, at 1300 Walter N.E. on Tuesday October 13, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. and a mass will follow at 10:00 a.m.

HELAK -- Dr. Joseph Helak, D. O., F.A.C.O.S., born May 26, 1930 in Depew, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2009. Dr. Helak was the best of husbands and fathers, dedicated to his beloved wife, Barbara, their ten children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devout Catholic, Dr. Helak was a long-time member of Annunciation Parish, serving for many years as lector & extraordinary minister, as well as devoting much time to service on the school board and council for Annunciation School and St. Pius X High School. A 1956 graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery, Dr. Helak provided outstanding medical and surgical care to patients throughout the Albuquerque area since 1960. He was also very active in the New Mexico Osteopathic Association, serving as President of the Association from 1969-1970, being honored as Physician of the Year in 1982 and serving on the NM State Licensing Board for many years. Joseph is survived by ten children, 30 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren: daughter Laura Warden and husband Brian, their four daughters Jessica, Allison, Elizabeth and Elena Warden; son, John Helak and his daughter Desiree Lesh and her two children; son Joseph Paul Helak and wife Buffey, and their six children: Aubrey Alexander and husband Daniel and their three daughters, Dustin Helak, Joseph Helak, Heath Houston, Eve Helak and Katy Helak; daughter Linda Schenkel and husband Andy and their children Jerod Sparks, Jennifer Sparks, Lee Schenkel & Melissa Boelger & husband Chad and their two children; son Jeff Helak and wife Martha and their children Nicholas Helak, Daniel Dobleman, James Dobleman, and Gracie Helak; daughter Lisa Drapeau and her sons Wesley and Zachary Drapeau; daughter Lois Brakenhoff and husband Peter and their three sons Jens, Joseph, and Jack Brakenhoff; daughter Leigh Schierloh and her children Jordan and Jacob Schierloh; daughter Lynn Jeffries and husband Scott and their children Samantha and Alex Jeffries; and son James Helak and wife Natanya and their children Gabriel and Isaac Helak. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Pat Helak and seven nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and their son Joseph Bradford Helak, his grandson Dakota Helak, parents John and Viola Helak, brother Henry Helak, and son-in-law John Sparks. Friends may visit French~Wyoming Chapel Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The rosary will follow at 7:00 pm. Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 8:30 am at Annunciation Parish, with Father Joel Bugas as the Celebrant. TORRES -- Santiago "Jimmy" D. Torres, Jr., 82, was called home to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, with his loving family and friends by his side. Mr. Torres was born on October 15, 1926 to Santiago and Gertrude (Gonzales) Torres, Sr. of Chacon, NM. He enlisted into the US Army in 1945 and served as a Military Policeman in the Philippines during World War II. During his military service he proudly earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Independence Medal. Mr. Torres moved to the Albuquerque area in the 1950's and joined the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1957. He retired from AFD in 1985 after 28 years of service. During his AFD career he earned the position of Assistant Fire Chief and was very instrumental in forming the Union for the Fire Department. Upon retirement, Mr. Torres was very active in the Retired Fireman's Association. Mr. Torres was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener, especially of roses. He liked to box and enjoyed supporting the sport of boxing. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. Mr. Torres was always very helpful and willing to lend a hand to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Gertrude Torres; and siblings, Emily, Camilio, Eufelio, Macario and Susie. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Ruby (Vaughan) Torres; children, JoAnn Garcia, David and his wife, Josephine, Torres, James and his wife, Lynnette, Torres, Diane and her husband, Michael "Tony," Lovato, and Raymond and his wife, Susie, Torres, all of Albuquerque, NM; stepchildren, Carolyn and her husband, Earl, Zaplin of Albuquerque, NM, and Ronnie and his wife, Joyce, Vaughan of Santa Fe, NM; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Rupie Perez, of Bakersfield, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will mourn his passing. The Viewing and Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave SE. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd NW. The Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd NW with Fr. Joel Garner, celebrant. Pallbearers will be Ross Aranda, Joe Marquez, Noel Baca, Pete Dinelli, Herman Casaus, and Pete Tartaglia. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leonard Ortega and Paul Saiz.
