AKIN -- Esther Ionia Akin, 79, of Axtell, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Life Care Center in Seneca. She was born February 22, 1930 in Vesta, NE to George and Hazel White. Survivors include her husband Martin of the home; three sons Tommy (Paula) of Glendale, AZ, Douglas (Candie) of Axtell, Randall (Shelby) of Albuquerque, NM; one daughter Charlotte (Dwight) Kruse of Fairview; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Visitation is Friday, June 26, 2009, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Landreth Popkess Funeral Home, Axtell. Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Axtell United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Axtell.

ANDERSON -- Stephanie Michelle Anderson, 35, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 20, 2009. Stephanie is survived by her mother, Priscilla Garcia; her stepfather, Mitch Johnson; her partner, Lydia M. Eggert; her siblings, Antoinette Anderson and fiance, Francisco Delgado, Alex Anderson, Andrea Anderson, Michael Anderson and companion, Stephanie Garcia; her twin brothers, Joshua and Jacob Anderson, and Christine Garcia; her grandfather, Joe Rael and companion, Veronica Tafoya; her nephews and nieces, Tony, Legna, Eliseo, Iris, Joseph, and Michael Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 24, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. ARAGON -- Andrew Aragon of Belen, New Mexico, devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, ended his journey on earth Saturday, June 20, 2009. He is now rejoicing eternally with his beloved savior Jesus Christ. Andrew is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Aragon of Belen; his children, Sheri and Christina Aragon of Albuquerque; father, Andres Aragon of Albuquerque; brother, Gilbert Aragon of Belen; sisters, Adela Candelaria and husband, Arturo Candelaria, Lillian Garcia, Therese McDonald and husband, Paul McDonald, of Albuquerque, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ninfa Aragon of Belen; sister, Rosemary Aragon of Belen; grandparents, Adela and Nacianceno Molina of Belen. Andrew was born in Belen, NM on March 25, 1950. He graduated from Belen High School in 1968. Andrew obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of New Mexico. His career in education spanned 30 years where he was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Andrew was known for his love of life, his family, and for the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman and experienced pilot. Andrew will be sorely missed by his friends and family. BELMONT -- Richard Cameron Belmont passed away early last Monday morning from complications due to lung cancer. Rick was first and foremost a devoted father, who pledged himself to his three children. He is remembered by all who knew him as an incorrigible philosopher, a traveler, an unapologetic critic, and an abiding appreciator of all of life's complexities. he was a dreamer of big dreams, who rushed at life, spoke loudly, laughed often, and always wanted more. Rick was born in Illinois on June 29, 1945 to Hiram and Margaret Belmont, the last of five children. Rick spent his life traveling. He was always in search of a new adventure, a better qualify of life, a more progressive tax system, a place where evening lasted longer or the landscape offered new inspiration, and over his lifetime, there were many places he called home, including Chicago, IL; New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; Shawnee-on-the-Delaware, PA: Ft. Myers, FL; Bandera, TX: and Albuquerque, NM. He finally settled in Albany, NY, where he was surrounded by family, children, grandchildren, and old friends. He will be missed by his sisters, Carol Gore and Margaret Cook; his brother William Belmont, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughter, Molly Rose, her husband Paul; his sons Cole and Leland: and his stepdaughter Deya. He always valued the wonder and exuberance he saw in the eyes of his grandchildren, Hailey, Max, and Quinn, and as we watch them grow up, we will remember Grandpa Rick. Blattman, 85, a prominent and life long resident of Ocate and Las Vegas, NM, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2009 at Alta Vista Regional Hospital due to complications from emphysema. She is survived by her daughters, C. E. BURTON -- Francis C. "Frank" Burton, age 90 of Albuquerque, passed away on June 19, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 25 years. He was born in Bethany, WV. On March 4, 1919 to William N. and Florence Burton. Frank graduated from the University of New Mexico, received a certificate from the Bureau of Highway Traffic at Yale University. He worked in Transportation Engineering in Albuquerque, Colorado, Seattle, Atlanta and Cairo, Egypt. He served in WWII 798th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of the Nat. Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity and as actively involved with the friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. Frank also loved gardening. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel of Follansbee, WV; and sister, Arline of Miles, Ohio; his son-in-law, William Hile Sr.; and his grandson, William Leo Hile, Jr. Frank is survived by his sisters, Beulah Campbell of Stowe, Ohio, Bessie Eddy of Follansbee, WV, Jean Armstrong and her husband Leo of Hemet, CA; his brother, Alan and his wife Donna of Fairview NC; his daughter, Corene Hile of Mesa, Arizona; his granddaughters, Mary Michelle of Yonkers, NY., Linda of Cleveland Heights, OH; grandson Charles and wife Sarah of Richmond, VA; sons-in-law of Albuquerque, Steve Gallea and his wife Linda, Alan Gallea; grandchildren, Eric, Roy and Elizabeth Gallea; and great-grandchildren, Connor and Ashley Hile, Caiden and Mia Gallea. DAVIS -- Billy Edd Davis, 89, a resident of Rio Rancho/Albuquerque since 1993, died Friday, June 19, 2009. He is survived by his spouse, Mary Kay Davis of Rio Rancho/Albuquerque; daughter, Kathy Munro and husband, Chris of New Mexico; Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; son, Elmer Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Davis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Mr. Davis served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War. He also served as a post commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and is a life-long member. He worked during his civilian life for NASA at Edward's Air Force Base in southern California where he had the opportunity to play a part in the United States space program which included his working on the flight simulators for the X-15, the simulators for the outer space vehicles, and the Digital Fly-by-Wire. The Digital Fly-by-Wire is now used for commercial aircraft to fly by instruments only. Billy received several awards for his outstanding work on the X-15 flight program; an award which President Lyndon Johnson also received. During his work at NASA, Billy worked alongside many astronauts and watched as the first spacecraft landed on the moon, something he helped to accomplish. He will be remembered by both family and friends as a loving and caring husband, father, and friend...we will all miss him. Pallbearers will include Chris Munro, Mike Donoho II, and Jim Carrie. DUNNAGAN -- Patricia Jean Dunnagan, 53, and a long time resident of Albuquerque, went home to be with our Lord after heart failure, on Sunday, June 21, 2009, with her loving family at her side. Patricia was born in Raton, New Mexico on September 6, 1955. Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Fred Garms. Patricia is survived by her loving family; her mother, Mildred "Millie" Garms of Bosque Farms, NM; her sisters, Kathy Kitchens and her husband Terry, Fritz "Fredda" Garms-Martinez and her husband Martin; two nephews, Gregory and Richard Kitchens all of Albuquerque; four aunts, Pauline Cox of Lubbock, TX, Nancy Meyer of Socorro and Bobby Whiting of Bosque Farms, Betty White and her husband Glen of Mosquero, NM; many more loving cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends who loved and will miss her. Patricia was employed at Automated Election Service for 21 years. As Election Coordinator, she was very dedicated to her work and was very appreciated by the New Mexico County Clerks. Patricia loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for being very generous and giving and for her love of animals. She would take in a stray without any hesitation. FRANCE -- Ivan A. France, 94, a resident of Albuquerque for 22 years, passed on Friday, June 19, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Wanda Jo Johnston France, originally of Clovis, NM; children, Jack France of Ballston Lake, NY and Clearwater, FL, Diane France, Dickie Johnston and Lance Johnston, all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Ivy was preceded in death by his first wife, Joine; his brother, Kendrick; his parents; and daughter, Beverly Johnston Miller. Mr. France was born on August 5, 1914 in Dorloo, NY and a graduate of Ilian High School in NY where he lettered in three sports. He also attended Syracuse University. His last employment was as Vice-President of France Bros. Corp. in Schenectady, NY. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. HOBBS -- Robert "Bob" Dean Hobbs, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1988, died on Friday, June 19, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sondra; and numerous other relatives and friends. Bob was born on April 21, 1928 in Merkel, TX to Rosa and Bob Hobbs. He graduated from Merkel High School where he was on the Yearbook staff. As a youth, Bob enjoyed making model airplanes and it was always said his were the most beautiful. As a very small child, he enjoyed drawing, even drawing on the kitchen table was allowed by his grandmother. Bob received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Art from West Texas State University, his Master's Degree in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO, and his Doctorate from Penn State. Between each of these degrees, he taught art in middle and high schools and in higher education. It was while teaching that he met Sondra Peckham and they were married on December 28, 1970. After retiring from Clarion University of Pennsylvania where Bob taught for 18 years, he and Sondra moved to Albuquerque where she found a teaching job. Everything about Bob's life revolved around art. He painted, did collages, did silk screen work, and at the end of his life was working on a graphic autobiography. Bob had a wonderful dry sense of humor right up to the end. He and Sondra were members of John XXIII Catholic Community. Bob was a loving husband and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be recited Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4821 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE. and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 25, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community. HOFFMAN -- Bruce Hoffman, Dr., 56, giving father, beloved brother, caring chiropractor, and loyal friend died on Father's Day, June 21, 2009, after a long illness. Bruce dedicated his life to raising and supporting his two sons. He loved music and helping others, especially his friends and patients. His favorite saying was "live your life with love," which is exactly what he did. Bruce is survived by his two sons, Luke Hoffman of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Nathan Hoffman and wife, Diedra, of Alb; brothers, Dennis Hoffman, Paul Hoffman and wife, Suzy; sisters, Karen Edwards and husband, Bob, and Laurel Moore Clinch and husband, Jim; and former wife, Susan Hoffman. KEASLER -- Doris M. (Dorie) Keasler passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, she has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1961. Our beloved Dorie is now with our Lord, and will be dearly missed by all. Dorie was preceded in death by her husband, Gary A. Keasler; her parents, Joseph and Helen Griffin; and sister, Rita A. Griffin. She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Hardy of Binghamton, NY and Barbara Winnie of Palm Bay, FL; brothers, William Griffin of Montrose, PA, Robert Griffin of Friendsville, PA, Donald Griffin of Little Meadows, PA, Bernard R. Griffin of Binghamton, NY and J. Michael Griffin of Friendsville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Dorie was employed by Kirtland Federal Credit Union for over 28 years, Clark Cleveland in Binghamton, NY for three years, and Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY before coming to Albuquerque. LAFON -- James "Jim" Lowell LaFon, 91, a longtime Albuquerque resident, died on Sunday, June 21, 2009. He was born at home in Lelia Lake, TX in 1918 and grew up in Clarendon and Canyon TX during the Depression. His father, James Robert LaFon, was a farmer and his mother, Selma Edna LaFon was a housewife and teacher. Lowell came from a large family of six sisters and was the only boy. He learned to love fishing and being outdoors with his father, and attended public schools in Clarendon where he was an excellent student. Lowell was active in sports including golf and tennis and wrote for his high school newspaper. He graduated with a degree in business from West Texas State University in Canyon, TX and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Navy to serve in World War II. Lowell was an officer in the Navy and served in the South Pacific until the war was over. Following the war in 1946, he married Julia (Judy) Ann Kasinec from Masontown, PA and worked briefly for the U.S. Department of Labor before moving to Albuquerque in 1948, when he started a long and successful career as a real estate broker. During the next 30 years, Lowell and Judy raised four sons. He closed his business (American Agency Realty) in the mid 1970's and retired finding more time for golf, fishing, hiking, travel, and gardening, activities that his four boys also came to love. After Judy's death in 1981, Lowell met Roseanne Palmer who became his dear companion until his death. Lowell was a great dad and devoted husband who always had a quiet demeanor and met old age with grace and wisdom. Lowell died peacefully and according to his wishes, will be privately buried in Santa Fe National Cemetery next to his wife, Judy LaFon. He is survived by his sons, Scott of T or C, NM, Alan of Canyon, TX, Mark and wife, Leigh and their daughter, Christina of Denver, CO and Neal and wife, Joan and their sons, Maxwell and Weston and daughter, Calley of Franktown, CO, and Roseanne Palmer of Fullerton, CA. MCRAE -- Ralph Thomas McRae, age 88, of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2009. He was born September 9, 1920 in Youngstown, OH but moved to McElhattan, PA, soon after his birth. Ralph worked as a Design Draftsman for Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, PA, for 14 years. In 1954, he moved to Albuquerque to work as a Design Draftsman for Sandia National Laboratories. He retired from there in 1983. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary E. (Smith) McRae in 1997; son, The Reverend Thomas F. McRae in 1984; and sister, Virginia Avitabile in 1998. He is survived by his son, Wayne G. McRae and wife, Christine of Mill Hall, PA; daughter-in-law, Cynthia McRae of Denver, CO; and daughter, Rosalie Swanson and husband, Gary, of Albuquerque. Other survivors include his grandson, Ian A. McRae, and wife, Jennifer of Denver, CO; grandson, David T. Swanson, and fiancee, Nikki of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Jennifer E. MITCHELL -- Thomas Jerome "Jerry" Mitchell, a native of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 after a long and successful life. He is survived by his daughter, Jerre Dee Fitzpatrick and her husband, John of Albuquerque; his son, Ron Mitchell and his wife, Sheri of Casper, WY; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Chandra, Vanessa, Tom, Jacob, Evan, Chelsea, Jenna and TJ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bartlett Mitchell on June 23, 2004, their anniversary; and his first wife, Mary Jane Wood Mitchell. Jerry was born on December 23, 1916 to Grace and Dr. Lynn B. Mitchell, who was a Dean at UNM. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1934, was a graduate of the University of Michigan and a professional engineer. Jerry proudly served as a Lt. Colonel in the USMC during WWII in the Pacific. He worked in China and India for Standard Oil after the war until returning to Albuquerque in 1959. His career with the BIA took him to Shiprock and Gallup. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Dorothy moved to Cochiti Lake where they enjoyed many wonderful years with great friends. Jerry enjoyed fishing and the Albuquerque Little Theater. His kindness and gentle manner will be greatly missed by his family. SCANNELL -- Charles Timothy Scannell, age 78, was born in Colorado Springs, CO on March 25, 1931. Moved to Albuquerque in 1946 and graduated from Albuquerque High in 1949. Tim went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife, Rolla Jean Scannell; his children Kathy Goss and husband Dan, Lynn Binder and Geno, Beth Trujillo and husband Dave, Clif Scannell and wife Bridget, Tim Scannell and wife Tiffany, and step-son Rand Waddingham. He has 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Alice Matney and husband Mike; and number of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He took great pride in his work, owing and running Scannell Surveying, Inc. with his son Tim.
