ALEXANDER -- Thelma Katrina Alexander, 100, resident of Albuquerque since 1946, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 8, 2009. She is survived by son, Connie Alexander (a.k.a. Rip) of Albuquerque; daughter, Yvonne Griffin and husband, Bob of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Gregg Alexander and wife, Christie of Wasilla, Alaska, Amy May and husband, Richard of Denver, CO, Lynn Alexander of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Annelle Griffin, Eric Griffin and wife, Lisa, and Stewart Griffin all of Orlando, FL; great-grandchildren, Austin and Brady Alexander, Will and Rachel May, Lily and Mae Alexander, Ben, Jake and Evan Griffin, and Kayla and Kyle Griffin; and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, W. C. Alexander in 1978; her parents; and brothers and sisters. On her 100th birthday, January 22nd, Mayor Martin Chavez proclaimed it Thelma Katrina Alexander Day in the City of Albuquerque. Governor Bill Richardson sent a personal letter commending her artistic contributions, and congratulations for building a new home at the age of 77. Thelma was born in 1909, has lived in eleven decades and has seen progress from open cockpit airplanes to the International Space Station. She experienced growing up in Texas oilfields, farms, and cities, experienced the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, and six U.S. wars. She has succeeded in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, and culinary expert. With her husband, W.C., they owned and operated a successful grocery and market in Texas. Thelma has hand sewn a patchwork quilt and has painted an oil painting for each of her children and grandchildren. She and her husband were prize winning gardeners. Thelma gave thanks to God for her 100 blessed years on earth. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. BRAIDWOOD -- Harold T. Braidwood, 99, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009. Mr. Braidwood was born August 21, 1909 the son of Irving A. and Blanche Tyrell Braidwood in Snover, Michigan and raised in the Detroit area. He married the love of his life, Eloise, on May 10, 1947. They lived in Detroit until 1953 when they moved to Boulder, CO where Harold worked as a precision machinist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research for many years. When not working he enjoyed playing golf and snow skiing. Harold and Eloise then moved to Rio Rancho in 1979. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Braidwood and Helen Lawson; and by his brother, Clinton A. Braidwood. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eloise V. Braidwood of Rio Rancho; sister, Shirley McIlvane of Redford, MI and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009, 12:30 pm at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 2701 American Rd. SE in Rio Rancho. CALDWELL -- Roger Donald Caldwell, 55, of Rio Rancho, NM went to be with His Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Lovelace Medical Center in downtown Albuquerque. Born August 23, 1953 in El Paso,Texas. He is the son of Charles E. and Doloris L. (Ewaskey) Caldwell. Roger was schooled in Pittsfield, MA, graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1971. He graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Electrical Engineering from Union College, Schenectady, NY in 1974, finishing a 4 year program in three years. He received his MS-EE the following year. He was elected to Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu Engineering Honoraries. He had an Amateur Radio License at age 14. He was an avid alpine skier and became a member of National Ski Patrol at 15, serving at Brodie Mountain, New Ashford, MA for several years, and played rugby in college. Roger was a licensed glider pilot, with his own plane. He worked for General Electric Company in Pittsfield from 1975 to 1982 when he moved to New Mexico and worked for Honeywell in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Catherine Chavez Caldwell; his parents Charles E. and Doloris L. Caldwell; three sisters, Audrey Cullen of Cedar City, Utah, Linda Clifford of Lenox, MA and Laurie Gibbons of East Nornton, PA; and one brother, Dennis Caldwell of Pittsfield, MA. He also leaves four nephews and three nieces. Friends and family are invited to Roger's Life Celebration Service on Friday, May 15, 2009. Services will be at Heaven Bound Ministries Church at 4311 12th Street, NW. Viewing begins at 9:00 a.m. with the Life Celebration Service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Vista Verde Cemetery in Rio Rancho and a Reception following at Heaven Bound Ministries Church. DELANEY -- Margaret Antoinette Delaney, age 93 went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born to Camillo and Pauline Garcia in Gallup, NM on May 10, 1916, and raised in Chinle, AZ. Margaret graduated with a business degree from Phoenix, AZ., lived in Chinle AZ. most of her life and helped manage Garcia's Canyon de Chelly Trading Post, a family business started by her father Camillo Garcia. After the untimely death of her father and brother Abel, Margaret became the sole proprietor of the family business until her retirement. She moved to Albuquerque after retirement with many friends and fond memories of her life on the Navajo Reservation. Despite a disability from polio Margaret lived life to its fullest. She enjoyed traveling to foreign countries, painting, and needlepoint. Margaret is survived by her sisters, Alice Bischoff, and Cleo Giersch; nephews, Tom, Alan, and Paul Gallegos, David, Ben and John Giersch, John Garcia, David, and Patrick McGuire, Eddy, Ann Selm, Tommy, Jerry, and David Bischoff; nieces, Mary Lou Widner, Teresa Giersch, Anita Dossey, Theresa Murry, Lorretta Bacaio, Georgianna Thomas, and Henrietta Gilmore. Margaret dearly loved the spouses and children of her many nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved cousins from Santa Fe and Gallup. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; father, Camillo Garcia; mother, Pauline Garcia; brother, Abel Garcia; sisters, Regina McGuire, and Mary Inez Barraza. ESTABROOK -- Caroline Estabrook, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, May 4, 2009. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Bone and husband, Robert of Edgewood and Marcia Salazar of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Gayle Bone and longtime partner, Wayne Glumm of McIntosh, NM and Jay C. Moldenhauer-Salazar and wife, Sarah of Berkeley, CA; three great-grandchildren, Audri Manzer and husband, Manuel of Gila, NM and Jonah and Lily Salazar of Berkeley, CA; two great-great grandchildren, Jacob and David Manzer of Gila; sister, Dorothy Peters of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, Gordon Zahm of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence Estabrook in 1983 and their infant son, Stephen L. Estabrook in 1951. Caroline and her husband, Laurence, who was a Navy Chief, were posted at various places early in their marriage. On December 7, 1941, Caroline and her family witnessed and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. In 1950, the family moved to Albuquerque. She was an avid bowler and was the head of rodeo ticket sales at the fairgrounds for over 30 years. First and foremost, Caroline was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose devotion and love will always be felt. Although her physical presence will be no more, she will always be with her family in spirit, memory, and prayers, as she was always with them in life. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be at Friday, May 15, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at French, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, followed by a reception and interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. GRIEGO -- Evangeline Franco Griego passed away on Mother's Day, May 10, 2009. Born on August 13, 1925, Mrs. Griego is survived by her loving husband, Leo Griego; her children, Sharon Griego Housel and Ronald Griego; grandsons Mathew and Brandon Griego, and brothers Frank and Fidel Franco. Her sister, Lilly Franco Pompa, died in 2008. Mrs. Griego's memory will also be forever cherished by a loving extended family and dear friends. A Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009 at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 1800 Martha NE at Indian School Road. It will be followed by Mass and a reception. HUGHES -- Ronald William Hughes, 63, of Albuquerque NM, died May 10th, 2009. He is survived by his wife Patricia Hughes; his children Tammy Boehm, Michelle Wix, Julie Hudspeth, Regina Wilson and Justin Hudspeth; his grandchildren Fredrick and Eric Boehm, Danielle Wix, Makena Wilson, Parker Wilson and Faith Estenson; as well as many other relatives and friends. Ronald was born in Lansing, Michigan to William and Carol Hughes. He was a very caring and giving man to his family and friends, as well as within his congregation. JARAMILLO -- Teresa Jean (Crespin) Jaramillo, known affectionately as Jean, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the age of 75, after a long illness. She is survived by husband Bob Jaramillo; beloved daughter-in-law Sandy Crespin; daughter Teresa Cisneros; grandchildren Krista Baca, Vanessa Baca, Matthew Crespin, Andrea Cisneros and Tiffany Crespin; great-grandchildren Matthew Marcus Romero and Demarcus Sutphen; beloved sisters Tillie Gonzales and Anna Chavez; and by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, step-children and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her brother Ralph Vigil; by her first husband Raymond Crespin; and by her cherished son Buddy Crespin. Jean was born June 1, 1933 in Nara Visa, New Mexico to Rafael and Felipita Vigil. She was loved by everyone who knew her and never met a stranger. A devout Catholic all her life, she truly embodied the Biblical quote "love thy neighbor." She struck up conversations and made new friends everywhere she went. A fantastic cook, she passed on her wonderful recipes for caldito, homemade tortillas, green chile chicken enchiladas, torta de huevo, and her famous margaritas to her family and friends. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and it was rare that her friends and extended family didn't hear about the achievements and accomplishments of her Hita Linda, Pretty Baby, Hito Fino, Peanut, and Hita Fina. Thursday night dinner at "Nana's" house was an event everyone looked forward to each week. During her life, her heart was broken by the loss of her son Buddy and her body was overwhelmed in the end by her health problems, but her spirit and zest for life remained strong. We are grateful for her wonderful life and the love she showered unconditionally on everyone. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 15, 2009 at 10:00 a.m at Our Lady of Assumption Church at Lomas and Tennessee NE in Albuquerque. KRONE -- Lauren Marie Krone, born Tuesday, December 25, 1956, former resident of Los Alamos, passed away in her Albuquerque home on Monday, May 11, 2009 surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Aragon; and her sister, Andrea Calderon. She is survived by her children, Shannon Krone, Michael Krone and fiancee, Mikhaila Mulligan, and Mark Krone; mother, Lou Aragon; sister, Denise Gray and husband, Michael Gray and kids, Eli, Jon, and Matt. Lauren was artistic and extremely creative, specializing in Raku pottery. She was talented in other artistic areas including sculpture, other pottery, and gourd art. Lauren volunteered at the local outdoor pool, her church, and Los Alamos public schools. She was adept at home improvement, construction and gardening, and was instrumental in remodeling the family homes. LANGLOIS -- Ida Gould Langlois, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, died Sunday, May 10, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William J. Langlois M.D.; sons, Steven Langlois, James Langlois, and Charles Langlois, all of Albuquerque; daughter, Laura Eicher and husband, David of Hobbs, NM; eight grandchildren; sisters, Helen Patrick of Peru, NY, Edna Holdrige of Deposit, NY and Letha Briggs of Deposit, NY; brother, William F. Gould of Vestal, NY; and numerous other relatives and friends. Ida was preceded in death by one son, Richard. Ida was born on October 23, 1926, in Deposit, NY, and graduated from the Binghamton School of Nursing in Binghamton, NY. She served as a cadet nurse during WWII. After the war she became a charge nurse at the University of Michigan where she and Bill met. They were married on January 31, 1953 and later that year moved to Albuquerque. Raising their four sons and daughter became her priority then. She was active for sometime with the Albuquerque Assistance League and was a life-member of the Four Hills Country Club. Ida was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. PEREZ -- Larry A. Perez, age 60 passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009 in Albuquerque. He was born on April 1, 1949 to Cipriano and Gloria Perez in Albuquerque. Larry was raised in Encino, NM on the Perez family ranch and attended NMMI and graduated from UNM. He retired from TVI/CNM with over 30 years of service. He loved his children and spoiled his grandchildren; he loved to work the family ranch and was an avid sports fan. Larry is survived by his children; one daughter, Marissa Perez-Leeds and husband, Mike; and one son, Larry C. Perez and wife, Nair Borges; three grandchildren, Brandy, Dax and Camila; his father, Cipriano Perez; one sister, Lydia Romo and husband, Sam, and one brother, Victor Perez and wife, Liz; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends that will miss and cherish his memory. PETER -- Vernon Peter, 88, a resident of New Mexico for 37 years, went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 11, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Bonnie Peter; daughter Sharleen Pfeiffer-Anderson and husband Greg; son James Shaw and wife Barbara; grandchildren Timothy Pfeiffer and wife Kimberly, Staci O'Connor and husband Michael, Jason Anderson, Melissa Bosarge and husband Ziggy, Jamie Shaw, Jamie Anderson and wife Stephanie, Joel Anderson and wife Becky; great-grandchildren Ryan, Haleigh, Kimmy Rose, Chris, Sam, Logen, and Adam; brother James Peter and wife Betty, sisters Violet Fossen all of Reedley, CA, Darlene Daniels of Palm Springs, CA and Darlys Britton and husband Jerry of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Hal Pfeiffer. Vernon and Bonnie owned and operated Tiny Tots Preparatory School until 1996. A Service will be held Friday, May 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul Blvd. N.E. with Pastor Beth Purdum officiating. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. PORTER -- Wilma Holmes Porter passed away on Mother's Day, May 10, 2009 due to the effects of Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lyle Porter, who faithfully visited her three times a day during her illness. Wilma is also survived by five children: Bruce Porter and wife, Susan; Rebecca Rogers and husband, Gary; Pamela Hamblin and husband, Randy; Carolyn Brustad and husband, Roger; and Susan Grenfell and husband, Darrin. She leaves a posterity of twenty two grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. One brother also survives her: Kenley Holmes of Spokane, Washington. Wilma was born in Liberty, Utah, to Irma and Edgar Holmes. She was the fifth of seven children. She and Lyle moved to Albuquerque shortly after their marriage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 21, 1951. Lyle began work at Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked until retirement. As a result of this employment, Wilma was able to live in Washington, D.C., Boston, and Europe, where they traveled extensively. Wilma loved music very much and served as LDS ward music chairman. She often led local LDS church choirs. She and Lyle served an LDS mission for a year on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. The family is grateful to the staff at The Cottages, an Alzheimer's home, where she spent the last years of her life. She is now at peace and reunited with her parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 15, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bear Canyon Ward, 11750 San Victorio Avenue, NE. Bishop Derek Lines officiating. PRUESS -- Margaret E. Pruess, age 93, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. She was born in Anita, Iowa when Woodrow Wilson occupied the White House. After high school, Margaret went to work as a bookkeeper in Kansas City, Missouri where she met Everett A. Pruess and married him in 1940. They settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they raised their three children. Margaret loved her crossword puzzles and mysteries. She took great pleasure in knitting hats and booties, giving them away to newborns of friends and family. Her talents were put to use for other projects such as crocheting prayer shawls. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Everett; and her sister, Mary Isabel Vriesen. Survivors include two sons, James and wife, Jitra, of Bangkok, Thailand, Steven and wife, Mary Ellen, of Green Valley, Arizona; and daughter, Mary Pruess, of Albuquerque, NM; grandson, Christopher; and granddaughter, Na; brother, Max Biggs and wife, Lois, of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and close friends, Melody Childs and Michael Newman, who will miss her kindness, love, and generosity. PURTELL -- Brian John, 55, a trim carpenter, small business owner, entrepreneur, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend passed away Sunday, May 10th, 2009. Brian was born in Albuquerque, NM to Dr Eugene Purtell (deceased) and Margaret Van Eweyk Purtell on May 20th, 1953. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Colleen Purtell; his sons, Todd and wife Nicole, and Matthew; grandsons, Brian and Scott; his siblings, Kate and Richard Prasek, Pat and Sharon Purtell, Peg and Gene Moser, Nancy Purtell and husband Bill Quaglia, Kevin and Barbara Purtell, Tim and Lucy Purtell and Terry Purtell; 21 nieces and nephews; 14 grand-nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Brian was preceded in death by his father and sister-in-law Cheryl Purtell. ROBILLARD -- Robert "Bob" Gregory Robillard, resident of Albuquerque, born on Staten Island, NY, January 9, 1924, the son of Charles and Kathleen (Sherwood) Robillard, passed away May 11, 2009. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Lila Peregrine Robillard; daughter, Renee Robillard and husband, Jim Lynch, of Albuquerque, NM; son, Robert Robillard and wife Donna Benz, of Bound Brook, NJ; Brothers- and sisters in-law, Robert Knisel, of Panama City Beach, FL; Bill and Delores Peregrine, of Counsil, ID; Bob and Donna Peregrine, of Rapid City, ID; Betty Schumann, of Fairmont, MN; Barbara Peregrine, of Glenbrook, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris and Shirley; two brothers, Gregory and Charles; and two brothers- in-law, Charles Schumann and Howard Peregrine. After graduation from high school, in 1942, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy flight training program. Bob received his Navy wings and was commissioned as an Ensign on September 5, 1944. He served on the aircraft carrier Boxer in Chinese and Japanese waters. Bob married Lila Peregrine, of Long Beach, CA, on July 15, 1945, in Tijuana, Mexico. Following the war, Bob was a flight instructor in Pensacola, FL, from 1946-1947, he was discharged from the Navy in 1947 as a LT (jg), but remained in the Navy reserves for two years. He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA. In 1952 he and his family moved to Staten Island, NY, and he worked for Western Electric (AT&T), in Kearney, NJ, for thirty years. Bob received a Masters of Science degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1962 by attending night school. In 1985, when Bob retired, he and Lila moved to South Dakota, living in Johnson Siding and Sturgis until moving to New Mexico in 2006. Bob was a member volunteer for RSVP, Sturgis Chamber of Commerce and The Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary. He amassed 1800 hours of volunteer time with the RSVP, all in Sturgis, SD. Visitation will take place at Kinkade Funeral Home 1235 Junction Ave, Sturgis, SD, 57785 on Thursday, May 14, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. with Funeral Service on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., also at Kinkade Funeral Home. STRUNK -- Rebekah Ann Strunk, born July 4, 1974 in Los Angeles, California, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 8, 2009 at the age of 34 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is preceded in death by her mother, Deborah Duff Strunk. She is survived by her dad, Richard Strunk; step-mom, Christine Gudelj; twin sister, Rachel; and step-brother, Travis Gudelj, all of Albuquerque; aunts and uncles, Marjean and Jack Carnahan of California, Bonnie and Johnny Isaacs of Washington, George Strunk of North Carolina, Donald and Marilou Strunk of Pennsylvania, Donna and Rick Wyckoff of Pennsylvania, Steven and Wendy Gudelj of New Mexico, Norma Gudelj of New Mexico, Rosemary Gudelj and Paul Petzold of Missouri, Patricia Gudelj and Clifford Earles of New Mexico; and numerous cousins and dear friends who loved and will miss her. Rebekah graduated from El Dorado High School in 1993. She worked at Furr's Supermarket for ten years while going to High School and College. She received her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in teaching from the University of New Mexico. Upon graduation from the University of New Mexico, she began teaching at Apache Elementary School in 2002. She began teaching special ed children and most recently was a 2nd grade teacher at Apache. Her passion in life was teaching special ed children. She loved her cats, family, friends, and the children she taught. We will miss her dearly. Special thanks to Albuquerque's finest - 911 operators, police department, fire and rescue, and the office of the medical investigator for their quick response and professionalism. Blessings and safe journey to our wonderful daughter, sister, niece, teacher, and friend.
