BIRD-MORRIS -- Alice Evelyn Bird-Morris beloved wife of Charles "Chuck" Morris lost her fight with cancer on May 9 2009. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, sister and three brothers. She is survived by her loving husband Charles "Chuck" Morris; her son Paul Steven Di Russo; son-in-law and daughter Joseph and Lauretta Suzanne Di Russo-Montoya; son David Andrew Di Russo; grandson Nicholas Albert Konwin II; her granddaughter Mariah Lelani Montoya; and brother Capt. Fred E. Bird, many other relatives and a host of friends. She will truly be missed by her loving family and friends.

JAMES -- Jocelyn James, Ph.D., 61, passed away on May 6, 2009, after a prolonged illness. Dr. James lived most of her life in Albuquerque and was educated at the University of New Mexico. She taught gifted and special education for many years in Albuquerque Public Schools, was an adjunct professor at UNM, and was also educational liaison during several state legislative sessions. Jocelyn also lived and taught in Japan, teaching both elementary and adult students. She owned and operated one of Albuquerque's first computer stores in the early 80's, with emphasis on the educational uses of computers. Dr. James is survived by her mother, Ruth Durkin; her sisters, Cindy Stanley and family; Eileen Gertz and family; and by her daughter, Halcyon Iris. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Bernard Durkin and her brother, SCB Frank Durkin. A Memorial Service in the courtyard of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. For information, please call (505) 261-1379 or (505) 345-8147, ext. 11. JAQUA -- Nancy Anna Jaqua, a longtime resident of Corrales, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009. She was 73. She was the daughter of John Arleigh and Nellmarie Huff and was raised in Boerne, Texas. In her early years in Boerne she discovered her lifelong love of horses which was to become an important part of her family. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where she performed with the Texas Stars. Nancy will be remembered for her love of animals, her talents as a seamstress and as a teacher who taught her students not only classroom subjects but also the importance of honesty and accountability. By her example, she taught everyone around her the importance of "doing the right thing" and helping those who were in need. Nancy is survived by her husband, Edwin S. Jaqua, with whom she was to celebrate 50 years of marriage on June 6, 2009, son David A. Jaqua of Albuquerque, NM, daughter Suzanne M. Jaqua of Albuquerque, NM, brother Charles F. Huff and wife Mary of Los Alamos, NM, nephew John Huff and family of Tijeras, NM, niece Maria Gair and family of Denver, Colorado, and cousins Nancy Smith of Camden, SC and Susan Teegardin of Dallas, TX. LEWIS -- Hunter W. Lewis went to be with his Lord on December 19, 2008. Due to the very recent death of their precious daughter, Linna Peterson, the family was unable to hold a service at that time. The celebration of his life is now scheduled for 11:00 a.m., on May 13, 2009 at the Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 8600 Academy Blvd., NE. Hunter is the son of the late Preacher Hunter Lewis and Edith Lewis of the St. James Episcopal Church in Mesilla Park, NM. He is survived by his wife, Betty Marquess Lewis and his children, Abby Lewis and Hondo Lewis of Albuquerque and Clifford Lewis of San Diego, CA, as well as his sister Sue Lewis Wimberly of Green Valley, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be given in his name to the Good Samaritan Fund at the church address or a charity of your choosing.

NEWMAN -- William "Bill" Gold Newman, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife and companion of 19 years, Rita; seven children, Gregory J. Newman, William G. Newman of Las Vegas, NV, Teresa A. Warnick and husband, Regan of Parker, CO, Katherine Newman-Stagner and husband, Will of Tijeras, Bradd W. Newman and wife, Kerry Antonsen of Albuquerque, Matt D. Newman of Denver, CO, and Suzan M. Montano and partner, Ray Cruz of CA; and two step-son's Nick DeCandia and wife, Rhonda of Albuquerque, and Don DeCandia and partner, Marcia Ginn of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Pryor of Washington D.C., Annette Ridges of Salt Lake City, UT, and Nancy Erickson of Salt Lake City, UT; numerous other relatives and friends; and his treasured dog, Misty. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Gold Newman; and his mother and step-father, Frank and Elizabeth Johnson Warren. He was born on December 14, 1920, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and after graduation entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he served six years as a Tech Sergeant during WWII in the South Pacific in the Communications Division. For many years, Bill traveled throughout Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico, selling electronic equipment to high schools. Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving as a Branch President and a Bishop in Colorado. He was in charge of the Genealogy department in Albuquerque. Bill was a kind and gentle man always looking out for others and accepting everyone. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. PEARCY -- William Moses Pearcy, 78, passed away, at home, on May 6, 2009. William was born in NJ to the home of William M. Pearcy, Sr. and Gerda Pearcy. William served 16 years in the Air Force as a cook during the Koran War. He retired from Yellow Freight. William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine; one sister, Jane Pearcy; and two brothers, Richard and George Pearcy. Surviving are his sons, Arthur N. Pearcy Sr. and his wife, Gloria; Ronald Pearcy and his wife, Jeanette; five grandchildren, Arthur N. Pearcy, Jr. and his wife, Tanya, John William Pearcy and his wife, Jackie, Tylena Pearcy, and Chris, Nicole Bonner and her husband, Adrian, William R. Pearcy and his wife, Ebony; and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Pearcy and his wife, Mary, and Ralph Pearcy, from PA; Lorraine Gordon and Laura Williams, also from CA; brothers-in-law, Robert Oliver, from VA, Ernest Silva, from CA; and many other family members throughout the US. SANDY -- Elsie Dell Sandy, 96, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, May 2, 2009. We are grateful that she suffers no more and is at rest. She is survived by her son, Ray Sandy; grandchild, Keith and wife, Deanna; and great-grandchildren, Kylie and Tarren Sandy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Frank Sandy and granddaughter, Jennifer Sandy. Elsie Dell Beckett was born on November 4, 1912 to Cal and Mamie Beckett in Hope, NM. She married "Frank" on November 7, 1942 in Yuma, AZ while he was stationed with the US Army during WWII. Elsie was employed with Sandia National Labs and retired in 1982. She and Frank could be found many a weekend at their cabin retreat in the Jemez Mountains and getting together with friends on camping and fishing trips where you could hear the sound of her laughter. After her husband retired from Trailways Bus, they moved to Elephant Butte and enjoyed having their grandchildren come to stay. "Nana" was crazy about her grandchildren and was always ready to go to basketball games, banquets, or team roping events. She never wanted to miss any opportunity that allowed her to show her pride for them and they now hold on to the many wonderful memories of their Nana. SCHRADER -- Aletha Roberts Schrader, 84, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009. She is survived by her sons, William E. Schrader and wife, Peggy of Crozet, VA, and Bert D. Schrader and wife, Brenda of Albuquerque; and grandson, Matthew S. Schrader. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Earl F. Schrader. Aletha was born in Randolph, NE, and then moved to Corpus Christi, TX, in 1928 where she resided until 1998. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Corpus Christi along with her husband, Earl. Aletha retired from the Texas Highway Department after 30 years of service. She was a lady with a tremendous loving heart and great courage. Friends and family may visit Monday, May 11, 2009, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Chapel. TAYLOR -- Velda C. Taylor died suddenly in Clovis, NM on May 7, 2009 at the age of 90. Velda was born in New Amsterdam, Indiana on February 6, 1919. She lived many places where she made countless friends throughout her life including, Washington DC, Biloxi, Mississippi, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Las Vegas, NV, Marysville, CA and Albuquerque, NM. During World War II, Velda worked as a ship welder. She also worked as a beautician in her early life and spent her later life as an accomplished collector. Velda was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend who always put others first. She had a lovingly warped sense of humor that anyone who knew her will remember. Velda was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles Taylor; and is survived by her beloved son, Michael T. Hamilton (her bouncing baby boy), wife Denise; granddaughter, Katrina Wagner; great-grandson Jason T. Wagner, Adam Wagner, grandson Thomas Taylor and family Tom and Sandy Taylor. She is also survived by her incredible neighbors and friends whose love and support enabled her to remain in her beloved home. WOLFENBARGER -- Hal R. Wolfenbarger, 69, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 8, 2009. He was born in California, on September 27, 1939. Hal had been a resident of Amarillo, TX, and Clovis, NM, before moving to Albuquerque. Hal was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the Santa Fe Railroad. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, June; his children Paul, Allen, Sheryl, Beckey, Crystal, and Susan; and two brothers, Jim and John Carl. He was blessed with ten grandchildren; Cameron, Sarah, Angela, Brian, Amanda, Alex, Annie, Neil and Caleigh. The newest grandchild is little two month old Linnae. She was already Grandpa's "little girl" since he was blessed to live in the same city and could see her all he wanted. Hal also had many nieces, nephews, and very close friends from the many years of a life well lived. He is preceded in death by his father, Tip Wolfenbarger; his mother, Opal Wolfenbarger Dye, whom he devotedly cared for the last four years and who went to be with her maker last month. Also preceding him in death are two brothers; John and Paul Wolfenbarger. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church located at 10,000 Spain Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87111.
